What if you could live again and again, until you got it right? On a cold and snowy night in 1910, Ursula Todd is born to an English banker and his wife. She dies before she can draw her first breath. On that same cold and snowy night, Ursula Todd is born, lets out a lusty wail, and embarks upon a life that will be, to say the least, unusual. For as she grows, she also dies, repeatedly, in a … repeatedly, in a variety of ways, while the young century marches on towards its second cataclysmic world war.
Does Ursula’s apparently infinite number of lives give her the power to save the world from its inevitable destiny? And if she can — will she?
Darkly comic, startlingly poignant, and utterly original — this is Kate Atkinson at her absolute best.

A Well Told Story
Mind boggling read!
Unique writing style – kept me engaged the whole time!!!
Original
A challenging but totally delightful read.
VERY interesting.
Kate Atkinson has mastered the art of writing books in which the events are not revealed in chronological order. If you are not familiar with her work be patient – believe me, it’s worth the effort. These novels tell the story of Teddy Todd, a bomber pilot believed to have died in aerial combat over Germany but who, to the delight of his …
A consistently good author.
I read this book the first time and I’m now listening to it as an audiobook. It’s one of those books that remind you of why you love reading. Beautiful language, characters so well developed you pick your favorites and dislike others. Highly recommended.
A book you will remember all your life. Love it
A unique twist on alternate timelines
A twist on time travel/reincarnation.
Kate Atkinson is a great writer, and I think this is one of her best. Even the smallest of changes in a life can have profound consequences.
Beautifully written full of wonderful character’s & the plot is beautifully realised.Kate Atkinson is a great writer
This is one of my favorite books. Atkinson tries to get a handle on the question a person usually thinks of at least once in her life: how would things have been different if I had made a different choice at a major juncture in my life? Or if fate had brought me a different choice in the first place?
Interesting approach. Takes the life of an individual in different directions at various junctures with different outcomes.
