Love is worth the risk…When their grandfather dies, the Lindquist sisters, Harper, Scarlet and Maggie, inherit the northern Minnesota fishing lodge that had been in their family for three generations. The inheritance is bittersweet. They were raised at the lodge by their grandparents. The natural beauty of the place hasn’t changed, but the building itself is crumbling and desperately in need of … desperately in need of repair. The lodge also reminds them of what they lost. Twenty-two years previously, their parents died there in what was ruled a murder/suicide.
As the sisters struggle to breathe new life into the failing lodge, old fears and questions rise to the surface even as new love presents itself. Why did their father murder their mother? What truths did their grandparents keep from them? The sisters must fight to keep the wounds of the past from putting their futures, and their fledgling relationships, in jeopardy.
Lies and Solace
She can’t live with one more lie. He can’t tell the truth.
Harper Lindquist is convinced she’s found the answer to her financial prayers. Unless she pours cash into crumbling Solace Lake Lodge, she’ll lose her family’s legacy. Her would-be savior arrives in the middle of a Minnesota blizzard and she’s determined to prove to her reluctant, and trapped, financier the lodge is a sound investment. But Harper isn’t completely honest with him. And she has no idea the lake is hiding secrets of its own.
Ethan James is a liar, but his money is very real. He isn’t convinced a broken-down inn is a smart investment opportunity. But the more he understands Harper’s dreams and desires, the more he wants to be the man to make them come true. The trauma in both their pasts means neither can fully trust the other. They must find the courage to love, to trust, and to accept, or yesterday’s sorrows will keep them apart.

What a sweet and lovely small-town romance! The hero and the heroine have complex backstories that are revealed in a perfect dripwise fashion that show the basis for their goals and motivations, allowing the reader to easily empathize with them as they struggle with inner conflicts dealing with their secrets and what they have withheld from each other.
The book starts off dramatically with a scene from the distant past when the heroine’s parents died in a drowning accident when Harper was a child. The book then fast forwards to her at the age of 32 when she is trying to obtain investment capital to help restore the lodge that’s been in her family for three generations. Ethan, the hero, is a complex character, on the one hand sweet and caring and on the other fearful of rejection or maltreatment due to his secrets.
Now, when I said the book was sweet up above, I didn’t mean it wasn’t steamy! They have a caring bond that does carry over into intimacy towards the end of the book. Will their secrets tear them apart? Will Harper have the lodge of her dreams? Will her sisters start pitching in?
This book was refreshingly light on punctuation and grammar issues. It was a delight to read in that aspect as well as the good storytelling as detailed above.
If you like small town romance with complex characters, you’ll find this book a treat.
The first book in the Love at Solace Lake series a well written book that held my interest throughout. This series deals with the Lindquist sisters Harper, Scarlet and Maggie, this is Harper and Ethan James’ story. Of two people keeping secrets from each other and that just might make it so they will lose each other. Read this book to find out how things turn out. Harper Lindquist wants to get Solace Lake Lodge Running again after years of it falling into despair after the death of her parents and then by her grandma and lastly her grandpa. She doesn’t want to sell the Lodge based on what it meant to her family but she knows that she is running out of time and may be forced to sell unless she can find an investor.
Ethan James works for Hainstock Investments and he is looking to buy the property to build a golf course and vacation condos. When he is forced to stay at the Lodge for extra time due to a winter storm he listens to the proposal Harper has and is intrigued by her ideas.
Will Harper and Ethan be able to come togetehr to get the Lodge up and running or will the golf course be the best viable option? Will secrets that both are keeping ruin everything they have both worked hard to get?
This was a good book and I really enjoyed it.
I liked Harper and really understood why she wanted to hold onto the Lodge but in a way I was surprised with all of the heartache that was created at the Lodge. She seemed to have a new relationship with her sisters because of wanting to fix up the Lodge and I understood why her sister’s wanted to move on with their lives.
I liked Ethan but I was a little mad when he put his golf course ideas on Harper thinking she would be happy to agree. I liked that he listened to her proposal about the Lodge and helped formulate a bigger plan. Once I knew his secret I hoped he would tell her before it would explode, which I knew it would given that Harper hates lies.
I loved the history of the Lodge and the mystery of her parents and I wonder if they will slowly release more details through the series.
I felt bad at how everything came out to Harper but I loved that her sisters came through for her with the Lodge when she needed them the most. I loved how Ethan’s sister Lydia came through when needed to let the past come out and why Ethan was guarded.
Great beginning to the series!
