Lee Piper is a new-to-me author but since I am such a huge fan of Rockstar romance, I had to read Lie to Me. Words cannot express how grateful to Lee Piper I am for giving me the opportunity to read a advance copy of Lie to Me. Initially, I learned about Lie to Me from social media but before I knew it, authors who I work with were speaking about there anticipation for this upcoming release. Now that I have been able to read her work, I am determined to find the time to read her previously published books because I was so enchanted with Lie to Me.
There are countless reasons that an author’s ability to self-publish have changed the game for avid readers. To me the greatest advantage self-publishing presents is in just how many new authors I have found over the last 8 years. Authors whose words grip my heart tightly and with whom I fall in-love with their stories and characters – much like I now love Lee Piper and her stunning abilities! As a blogger and editor, the rewards are two-fold. First, I get to indulge my love of reading and second, I get more chances to step outside the box than I used to when I was just a reader. Not only have I discovered just how varied the talents of a self-published author are from the more traditionally published authors of our past, but I have also experienced unique writing styles and voices that led to me to pursue genres and tropes that I had not in the past. Really, how much more win-win can it get?
As my first book by Lee Piper, I went into Lie to Me with a completely open mind. While reading Shiloh and Reid’s story, I got lost in the beauty of a wholly unique romance – a rarity at times when you read a book a day. Lie to Me led me through a variety of emotions as the story unveiled before my eyes and I truly could not put down my kindle. As I mentioned, the plot was unique, and I felt like it was also well-paced. I didn’t grow bored or skip over portions of the book in order to get to the good stuff… I loved how well I understood Shiloh – her happiness, pain, fears and the other complexities about her that Lie to Me explored. She was quick to doll out snarky comments to deflect the other characters in the story from guessing her secrets. But, she was also sweet and incredibly loyal to her family and extended family. Her character really spoke to me as a woman. On the other hand, Reid was the sexy as hell, dirty talking, ‘misunderstood’ asshole – my favorite kind of alpha and romance hero! Regardless of just how much Reid portrayed an asshole, his actions spoke louder than his words – a very good thing since the story is told strictly through Shiloh’s eyes. The chemistry between Shiloh and Reid was H.A.W.T! If you are reading Lie to Me, be prepared to need a cold shower! The banter between them added to their chemistry and Reid instinctively new when to push Shiloh and when to pull back. His distraction techniques are something I wish my own husband would pick up on for sure! Another source of joy I found in this story was the addition of outstanding supporting characters. Lee Piper wrote a story that exhibited a very realistic comrade amongst the two bands–friendships that held true over the possibility of fame–thus making the story more fulfilling. While they were in competition with one another, they acknowledged repeatedly that they had a solid foundation of friendship.
Overall, I loved Lie to Me and can’t wait for more of Shiloh and Reid’s story in future works by Lee Piper. I know that without a doubt I will be social media stalking Lee Piper for more of her work, especially the Raising Stars series! This is a rockstar romance that will leave you in-love yourself with a new author, so I sincerely hope that my review helps future readers in deciding to one-click Lie to Me and get started reading!!!
Lee Piper is a new author to me. The first thing that got my attention was the beautiful and unique cover. And after reading the blurb I definitely had to read this book.
This story is about Shiloh, who’s attending a band contest with her twin Jasper and her best friend Tobias. This requires a lot of strenght from the young woman, because she’s afraid of crowds and every performance on the show is a struggle. The fact, that the love of her life, Reid, whom she left three years ago, also participates in the same contest, is another problem. Since she left him the sexy drummer is very angry at her. But although he’s angry he’s also the only one who can help her. And he does !
Wow, the connection between Shiloh and Reid is sizzling. Sparks are flying and the whole story is very emotional and very hot. In the beginning I thought they couldn’t and shouldn’t be together. Reid was hurt deeply by Shiloh and I was afraid they would hurt each other again and again. At first I really didn’t want them to be together and I was “Team Tobias”, because he would’ve been the safe decision. But he is not what Shiloh wants. Piper Lee was able to write a story with a beautiful second chance for real love.
I absolutely enjoyed reading this story. I love Shiloh and Reid. Together and individually. Shiloh is funny, self-confident (most of the time) and so strong. Reid is this brooding alpha male, covered in tattoos and a drummer . And he’s Shiloh’s white knight (or not ). Their love for each other is unique, couldn’t be destroyed by Shiloh and will survive. I also loved the side characters. Tobias is my man, I’m in love with him, although he’s a little bit naive and wants what he already knows he can’t have. I hope he gets his own book?! Willow is amazing, she’s a good friend and I’m glad her story comes next. Jasper is not my cup of tea but he loves his sister so much and that gets him bonus points.
A great second chance romance, a lot of hot scenes, so much love, adorable characters.
Can’t wait for book 2.
“Lie to Me” was filled with wit, heartbreak, sexiness, intrigue and love. The emotions were everywhere for me. You first meet Shiloh she’s the lead singer of a rock band. Then you meet Reid and he’s the drummer of another rock band. They are both competing in the same competition for a recording contract. They have also been in a previous relationship. How does that affect the story? Read and you’ll read a story of finding who you are, finding forgiveness, finding love, and finding what’s most important. This was my first book from Lee. I’m so invested in this series and look forward to more from her. “Bravo”
The first book in the Rising Star series by Lee Piper was a great beginning! This author is new to me and I fell hard and fast for her young rockers. There is a ton of history between Shiloh and Reid. After many years as friends and then a brief time as lovers, these two are now pitted against each other in the Rising Star television competition. Only one band can come out on top and get the royal treatment with recording contracts etc. and we are front row center as the battle between these former sweethearts gets hot and heavy.
I really enjoyed all of the characters and am thrilled they seemingly will be getting their own stories told in the future. The dynamic between Shiloh and her brother Jasper, together with bestie Tobias was both comical and bittersweet. It seems everyone has a secret to bear and it’s only a matter of time before they are all exposed and not always at the most convenient of times. Add to that the opposing band with Reid as the frontman, who exudes sex with each heated stare, who makes Shiloh melt with just a brief touch, and you get one very complicated tale. Falling for each other was never the plan but the tenderness Reid shows Shiloh time and again was hard to resist. I may have melted right along with her.
With Shiloh grappling with some sudden success as her band continues to stay in the competition, her inner demons threaten to sabotage all the good. Her comic timing, however, often diffused the most difficult of situations and that was well-crafted by the author. Her chemistry with Reid was evident although I would have liked a flashback or two to when things were truly wonderful between them. But considering all that is on Shiloh’s plate and that includes keeping both Jasper and Tobias safe and in line, those stolen moments with Reid gave her a bit of respite from all the crazy and they it’s clear they know how to rediscover their passion for one another.
I look forward to more from these endearing characters and hope they will all find a bit of happy in the oft-times very unpredictable world of rock n roll. There is true melodious spirit that lives within each of them and it will be quite the adventure as they continue to explode upon the music scene.
I happily give Lie to Me a solid 4 stars!
Loved EVERYTHING about this book. This is my first book by Lee Piper & won’t be my last.
Shiloh’s character was absolutely Great. I loved it when she would spit out word Vomit…lol. Then what she called her Vagina …lol. Besides those facts Shiloh carries the weight of the world on her. She doesn’t want to disappoint anyone and because of that and what happened a few years ago. She goes into panic attacks.
Reid Tate, OMG, cue Swooniness. He was Broody, Possessive, and when he called her Darlin’…. cue panties melting. Reid is there for Shiloh and he’s noticed why she has panic attacks and comes to conclusion of helping Shiloh even though he is still angry with her. Can I please get his kind of Help…
These two completely stole my heart. Piper you did a Great job and thank you for letting me read your book.
I Flove Rock romances and dam!! Reid was sexy as sin. I loved this book, from page one I was gripped I read it in one sitting because I couldn’t put it down. The sexy love hate love relationship was beautiful, the way that lee has written this story has me in awe, helping someone overcome there worst fear in the best way possible is not only heartwarming but makes you fall in love with Reid over and over again. can’t wait to read more on willow and zeke
This is the first book I’ve read by Lee Piper and it definitely won’t be my last. I Didn’t just read the pages. I felt them down to my core.
Lie To Me is a rockstar romance that will go down as one of the best ones I’ve ever read.
Shiloh has a secret and only Reid knows what it is. She’s kept it from her bandmates, who happen to be her best friend and her brother.
She’s in a competition against Reid and his band and with his knowledge of the secret she’s trying to hide he could very well sabotage her chances of winning the competition. He offers to help Shiloh and although I wondered if he was up to something, his techniques and the way he helped Shiloh had me wanting to switch places with her.
I have a soft spot for drummers and Reid certainty didn’t disappoint. He was cold, distant, loving, caring and every time darlin’ slipped past his lips I swooned so hard it made my knees weak.
I loved Shiloh and Reid together and I hope we get to see more of them in the near future. I’m also excited to see more of Tobias. I’m intrigued about his character.
I need Lee Piper to write more books.
She must give me ALL THE ROCKSTAR BOOKS FOOOOREVER!
I absolutely loved everything about Lie to Me.
This book was sweet, funny, sexy, angsty, exciting, nerve wracking… I could go on and on and on.
Shiloh, her brother Jasper, and best friend Tobias, enter a music competition for a chance to win a contract with the biggest recording label.
One of the competing bands are Shiloh’s other friends, Willow, Drake, and her ex Reid.
Reid is this mega asshole with sleeve tattoos completed with a man bun **insert drool**
During one of the battling competitions, Reid realizes something about Shiloh that nobody else has figured out. Even though Reid HATES Shiloh, he decides to step in and help. And what a way he helps to distract Shiloh.
Oh my god!! I want a tall man-bun wearing, tattoo body, ALPHA drummer to come and help me.
Lee Pipers story telling abilities are top notch. Once I started the book, it was really hard to put down. I didn’t stop reading till 5 in the morning the first night, and the following day when I couldn’t read, the story and characters were on my mind the entire day.
The sex scenes are RIDICULOUS!**yum yum** I had calm myself down a few times, lol. The musical aspect was beautifully written.
I felt myself going through the same motions as Shiloh when she needed to remove herself from everyone and everything to write music. Her fears, I felt. Her accomplishments, I felt. Everything, I felt. It was just perfection.
And, now… I’m begging for more. There a little tease at the end of the book that talks about the following story with another band member, and I am DYING to get it in my hands.
I can already tell it’s gonna be a good one! #ImClaimingZeke
4.6 stars
So often in Rock romance, there is a tendency to make it about cheating and then break-up and then all is forgiven. That isn’t this story. Not by a long shot. There is depth here on a different level. Two former lovers competing for one thing. Only this time there is a lot at stake. There is a twist in this book that I didn’t see coming. It puts a whole new perspective on following your dreams no matter what. It is also a twist that I have never read before. It posits when would that hard line in the sand be drawn to where someone just leaves it as a dream. If it was me I can guarantee that I wouldn’t be able to do it. My stutter would be back in two minutes tops. A stutter that took me YEARS to overcome. Yet, in this case, it made the heroine brave. I wanted to hug her and tell her that she was truly a rockstar.
Shiloh. This sweet feisty girl. A woman afraid to truly live because of guilt that she carries towards Reid. The man who owns the heart that she broke. Reid. This man is mine ladies. Knowing who his muse was made him even more attractive in my book. His selfless attention and trust issues from Shiloh being the one to break his heart made him even more beautiful. Add in his mouth (both literally and figuratively) whether he was talking or something else he had serious game. My Ovaries told me so. So it must be true.
The secondary characters were pivotal in this book, and I hope they all get their chance to tell their story. It helped enrich the story. I am particularly interested in Tobias getting a story because there is a lot there. There is a certain part that broke my heart toward the end of the book. I can already tell he will be a complex story.
This book covers it all. It teaches you the power that finding love is often unexpected and getting a second chance is a gift. It is hot and steamy. There is humor. I love it when an author uses humor and I love it, even more, when they do it in a way where their mind or thoughts is doing the thinking. I laughed out loud several times. All of this combined to make a great book that is fun and refreshing in a genre that normally goes down a different path.
This author is a new to me author and I am very glad I got the chance to read her words. She has a gift when it comes down to her writing style. I know she is on pins or needles waiting to see if her hard work has paid off. For myself, that answer is undoubtedly is a resounding yes. My only complaints with the book were that I wanted there to be more resolution with the fallout from their break-up. I wanted to hear more from Reid about his feelings. Still not enough for me to not enjoy this book. I look forward to more great work from this author in the future. She is on my watch list now. (It’s a good thing, I promise. It isn’t like a TSA “I am going to grope you” watch list!)
5 STARS FOR LIE TO ME!! OMG, This story is beautifully written with all the feels, you can’t put it down. The book will be in my top 10 for 2018, it is that good. What is not to love with sexy as sin rock stars, sexy times, angst, drama, funny at times and moments of sweetness. This is my first book by this author and I can’t wait to read more. Do yourself a favor an 1-Click this Book.
The cover drew me in, and the first page had me knowing I would love this book. It was recommended by a friend, who has never steered me wrong with books. The cover alone drew me in. It’s beautiful and unique. This is the first thing I have read by her, but will certainly not be my last! I Can’t wait for the next one in this series. As I said, the first page drew me in. The love and acts of retaliation are on a whole new level. The phrases Shiloh uses have me cracking up multiple times. Reid, Wow! He is a rock star god. Both musically and look wise. That typical brooding, sexy, alpha male.
It’s a story of two bands, who are friends who are competing in a contest where the winning band gets a recording contract, world tour, fortune, and fame. There is a couple of issues. Wouldn’t be a great story without conflict. There is a secret, some hurt feelings, unrequited and reignited love. All around it’s a great book. One I would and have recommended on a couple of occasions.
Lie to Me is the first book that I have read by Lee Piper and it will not be my last! This book is the perfect combination of love and music that speaks to you on so many different levels.
Shiloh is the lead singer of a band that includes her twin brother and best friend. Recently-ish she developed an issue that might hinder their chances in a reality music competition. The band’s biggest competitors also happens to be old friends. The drummer (Reid), however, is an ex-boyfriend of Shiloh’s, which obviously creates some tension. Despite the fact that these two have a complicated and painful history, the chemistry is still very much alive and hard for them to ignore.
It’s absolutely amazing watching Shiloh making the journey to overcome fears and be forced to be in the presence of the only man she ever loved once again. This book is a must read and I strongly suggest that you go ahead and pre-order it!!
Our lips meet.
Our hearts beat.
And our bodies sing in time.
By far the most powerful and beautiful parting lines to a Rockstar romance I have ever read.
Lie to Me is the first book in the interconnected standalones for this series and she absolutely nailed it.
Shiloh and Reid’s story is brilliant. Laced with all the trappings of a rock band striving for fame. The drama, the angst, the fear. Lee perfectly captured each emotion with Shiloh’s POV.
We all know how much I love the drummers. All the drummers. Every drummer.
Reid is no exception. Add in the fact that he is tattooed and a former skater boy?!? Hello Travis Barker for my character inspiration. A little touch of his dirty talk and I fell head over heels in love with this man. Even in hate his passion shines through for Shiloh.
Shiloh is quite something. From tragedy to fear to strength. This girl loves hard and deep. For her family, for her friends, for her soul mate. Add in what I can only imagine as a soulful rocker voice and scream – she is perfection incarnate.
I loved the connections with all the characters, especially the bands and their humor, ribbing, and fun.
This was an amazing story. Highly recommend.
And as always from my reviews, my top quotes of the book:
“Even though Reid doesn’t glance my way, there’s no ignoring his gravitational pull. He’s like a black hole, drawing me closer, luring me toward a supernova.”
“Can you feel this?….Your blood pumping, your heart screaming, your insides on fu**ing fire?.. That’s your truth”
“”If my soul would stop begging for its other half and my fear would miraculously disappear, I could do what’s best for both of us. Let him go for good.”
I expected to like this story way more than I did. I hated it! There was nothing I liked at all about this story and yes I had a few laughs and it was steamy but I hated all of the main characters. The only one I could tolerate was Willow. Shiloh was whiny, childish, insecure and she frustrated the hell out of me. She was scared of crowds, yet when Reid left her sexually frustrated or satisfied she was able to perform. Really! Reid wanted sex but no feelings, yet he did everything knowing it would lead to feelings and their past did not help the situation. You can’t have a sex only relationship when there is still feelings lingering from their relationship they had in the past. He was after all, her first love. This story for me was completely ridiculous and a waste of my time.
This is a superb prelude in the first book in the Rising Star series by Lee Piper. I am new to this author and I fell hard and fast for her bunch of young rockers.
This book centers on Shiloh and Reid, who have a complex history. After a childhood friendship and then a very brief time as lovers, these two are now competing against each other in the Rising Star television competition. Only one band can win, with a recording contract at stake and we are at the forefront as the battle between these former sweethearts gets hot and heavy.
I really enjoyed all of the characters and am beyond that they thrilled will be getting their own stories told in the future. The dynamic relationship between Shiloh and her brother Jasper, together with best friend, Tobias was both comical and at times bittersweet. It seems everyone has secrets and it’s only a matter of time before they are all exposed and not always at the most convenient of times. In addition to that, the opposing band with Reid, who exudes sex appeal with each heated and brooding stare, who makes Shiloh melt with just the briefest of touch, and you get one very complicated tale. Falling for each other may never have been the plan at the start but the pure tenderness Reid shows Shiloh time and again proved hard to resist.
With Shiloh grappling with the sudden success as her band continues to stay in the competition, her inner demons threaten to sabotage all the good. Her comedic timing and her perfect one-liners, however, often diffuses the most difficult of situations which was extremely well-crafted by the author. But considering all that is on Shiloh’s plate and that includes keeping both Jasper and Tobias safe and in line, those stolen moments with Reid gave her a bit of respite from all the crazy and it’s perfectly clear they know how to rediscover their passion for one another.
Her chemistry with Reid was evident although I would have loved a flashback or two to when things were truly wonderful between them. Also, if I am being picky, I would have loved a dual point of view from both characters.
That said, Lee Piper has written an heartbreakingly beautiful story. Shiloh won my heart. She was strong and independent, but she had a vulnerable side resulting from specific events in the past. The story line had a perfect flow which allowed me to become fully entranced.
I look forward to more from these endearing characters and hope that they will all find their happy ever after in the very unpredictable world of rock n roll. There is a true melodious spirit that lives within each of them and it will be quite the adventure as they continue to explode upon the music scene.
Lee Piper is a new author to me. I won a copy of her book, Lie to Me, in a random draw. I didn’t have any expectations, but I had read the blurb and thought I might enjoy this book. I read very little “rock star/musician” stories, so I wanted to give this one a go. I totally enjoyed it! The main characters were interesting, and they all had baggage! The main female character, Shiloh, was wonderful. She was rather emotionally crippled by several circumstances in her life, but that didn’t seem to stop her from being a tough yet tender, snarky and funny woman among a group of testosterone-filled musicians. She made me laugh out loud at times and ache for her inner turmoil and pain at other times. I loved her! The guys were all sexy, swoon-worthy and captivating, each in their own distinct way. I loved them all! Overall, this was an interesting inside peek into the life of struggling, up-and-coming musicians and their issues. A good read–grab this one!
