How many lives have been ruined for the pleasure of an orgasm?
Forty-something Layla Duncan, a women’s magazine writer, has a dangerous obsession with men who sell steamy sexual encounters to vacationing women in Puerto Vallarta. She infiltrates the underworld of male prostitution, interviews several men and begins to write a mesmerizing exposé of their lives.
Before long the lines between Layla’s personal life and professional assignment become blurred, and she finds herself questioning her value system in a titillating yet disturbing way.
Sparks fly one night when she takes a break from her writing and meets the sensual twenty-something Mateo at a local nightclub. The charismatic yet quiet young Mexican man seems oblivious to his powerful sexual aura but is immediately turned on by Layla. The one-night-stand turns into sporadic hook-ups, while two emotionally damaged lovers long for something neither can put into words.
Lynda Filler has once again delivered a fast-paced, sexy and sometimes gut-wrenching page-turner that will unnerve you and leave you breathless.

I was completely blown away when I finished this book. I expected an explicit and taboo novel about the taboo lifestyle of men who utilize their bodies and their company for money. Ultimately their stories boil down to the successful men that have learned to live a life without shackles, shame, or regrets. All walks of life and orientations are represented in this as well. We have fathers, brothers, LBGTQ, couples and the straight. Too often it is the quiet ones with a history they attempt to hide that have the most fascinating stories behind who they have become today. It was a new spin completely on the typical erotic fiction books that I normally find myself getting lost in. It is jampacked with the spicy, sexy scenes but balances itself with just the right amount of heartbreak in there. One of my favorite type of books though, tend to be the ones that are relatable and realistic, something that makes you really think about what is going on and applying it to your life going forward. I have learned that I will ask what the story is, for it may be one of the most touching ones you have ever uncovered.
Layla Duncan originally set out to write an article for the magazine she works for, that caters to the woman reader. She dives right in interviewing men that work in the sex business. Men from all walks of life are telling her stories about how they got to where they are today. She finds herself engrossed in the project and realizing that there may be more than enough stories that she could write a novel about the subject.
During the interview process and her exploration of topics to cover, she finds herself developing friendships with the men. One in particular stands out the most, Mateo. It is obvious that there is a sexual tension between the two, and the possibility for them to become more than just friends. However, we see the two do everything they can to deny the feelings that grow deeper than just a causal relationship. Things get complicated and eventually Layla finds herself falling in love with Mateo.
Mateo has a past with demons that he needs to tackle before he can commit to a relationship that could be more than just what is on the surface. He seeks out the help of a counselor and tries to deal with the demons of his past. While he is finding himself Layla steps away from the men of Puerto Vallarta. She focuses on the novel that she has spinning in her mind, and putting it down into a book that is ready to publish.
Eventually Layla has to return home though, and a lot has gone on during her absence. Will she be able to handle the emotions that are brought to the forefront and accept that there could be more if she just had an open mind and a desire to work for what she wants? Or will the difficulties that lay ahead between Mateo and her be too much for her to accept?
I was pleasantly shocked and surprised by the outcome of this book, however predictable that it may seem, there was so much to be rooting for with these two. I wanted so badly for them to have their happily ever after. Will they be able to find it?
You won’t be disappointed that you picked up this gem By Lynda Filler. I am secretly hoping that this could be a series, or there could be more of just Layla and Mateo in future books from her, fingers crossed.
I have to admit it took me a while to get into the groove and flow of this story about a writer who has taken up residence in a Mexican resort town to research the local sex trade. But, she is focused particularly on the young Mexican men who sell their bodies, while allowing herself some indulging throughout her research. The author switches from character to character, with each chapter, showing many different points of view, thoughts, motivations, longings, drug abuse, and sometimes the guilt they each deal with. An indepth view into the psyche, of the young men selling their bodies, gave me a glimpse of the demons they faced. In a poor country such as Mexico, making a living is not easy. Female tourists come to Puerto Vallarta looking for excitement and for sex and they find it. In the resort towns, the tourist money flows freely and women are happy to pay for sex escapades, for a chance to escape reality. The young men are groomed as boys, to provide exactly what each woman expects of them. A corrupt government, cops on the take and the drug cartel, add to the suspense through this novel. I won’t leave a spoiler because the ending caught me totally by surprise. I’ll just say if you’d like to take a journey to another country, see inside the minds of many different characters and get a close-up look at the many facets of sex-trade, you will enjoy this book.
I’m really glad i read this novel it’s definitely one i won’t forget about. It has a completely different storyline one that is captivating and fast paced it will keep your attention throughout that’s for sure. There is so much happening in this novel you come across many characters and it will keep you on your toes just with the amazing intriguing storyline.
Lie To Me: An expose on sex for money by Lynda Filler was like no book I had ever read and I loved it. Did she experience any of this? Hear stories? I have no clue but this book was a great read.
Layla Duncan is an American author residing in Mexico. During her time she meets a lot of interesting young men who are willing to do whatever is necessary to survive. All of these men have a story. Some were gay, some straight but open to anything. There were husbands and fathers too, all willing to anything at all support their family.
This book just fascinated me and was a little disappointed when it was over. Ms. Filler is a new to me author but I have every intention on reading more by her.
Lie to Me: An Expose on Sex for Money by Lynda Filler wasn’t what I was expecting and my god this book was good!
This is was my first read by this author, and you know what, I was expecting this book it be like other fun, destination romances. Ones you can pretty much predict from the get go, but still love cause they’re usually witty, good fun, and hot. And this book did start out like that, but what I wasn’t expecting was the sudden turn, not so much a plot twist, because when looking back there are little bits of info giving, to see the turn. The stories of the men, and the more our MC dug, and she got herself deeper into that world, the more I wanted to know, and the more I knew, the more my feels got assaulted.
It really makes you wonder, and it humanized these men, making them more then what they appear. The writing drew you in, the tone matched every scene with perfection, and as the turn starts, the tone gets darker, sadder and like I said, assaults your feels. This book, will open your eyes to a world that we as people don’t like to talk about, to even acknowledge.
This book is a super high recommendation from me. It’s like nothing you have read before. Take my word that you will be captivated but this truly rare read.
Happy Reading

Lie to Me: An Expose on Sex for Money is a romance novel by Lynda Filler. This book is unlike any other romance novel that I have ever read since it seems more like a non-fiction research project as you are reading it. The story is about a magazine writer, Layla Duncan, who lives in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Layla’s parents were hippies, who were very much in love with one another during their entire lives together. Her parents met in California, where Layla’s mother was born, and eventually moved to Canada where Layla was brought up. Layla was born in the United States and named after Eric Clapton’s song. Layla dropped out of college and became a freelance writer for magazines such as Elle; she moved to Colorado, was married then divorced, and she never had any children. Layla’s has had other romantic relationships since her divorce but she feels that she’s never been any good at them, so now she guards her heart by never getting involved with anyone romantically. Layla enjoys sex, and is attracted to men about twenty years younger than herself. Layla is in her forties and she knows that she looks really good for her age.
Layla has decided to do a research article based on interviews with male prostitutes in Puerto Vallarta. She meets and interviews many male prostitutes in the area, and even though she is propositioned by many of them, she decides to never mix business with pleasure. One night Layla decides to take a break from her writing and visits a club called The Zoo where she meets a young man in his late twenties named Mateo, who is very attractive. Mateo goes home with Layla and they have amazing sex, but he leaves in the middle of the night. Mateo visits Layla many more times, and try as she might to not acknowledge it, Layla starts to have feelings for Mateo. Layla knows that Mateo is emotionally damaged, but she feels that he may have feelings for her, too. Whenever Mateo comes to Layla’s home he always leaves in the middle of the night. She always hopes that Mateo will stay the whole night with her but for whatever reason, he never does.
As Layla interviews the male prostitutes, she starts to meet with some of the men many times, and they refer other male prostitutes to her to tell their stories. Layla even starts to make friends with some of the men. Some of them tell her that they service men as well as women. The men say that they get into this profession since they can make a lot more money working as prostitutes than they can working at other jobs. They’re taking advantage of the fact that many American and Canadian women come to Puerto Vallarta looking for no strings sex with handsome young Mexican men.
I really enjoyed this novel by Lynda Filler. All of the characters tell amazing stories, although many of them are heartbreaking, and it is impossible to not get emotionally involved with these characters. This book is unlike any other romance novel that I have read. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a very interesting novel!
Lie To Me: An Expose On Sex For Money by Lynda Filler
This book was not what I expected. I had wrongly assumed that this was a non-fiction book. However this did not affect my enjoyment of the book.
Layla Duncan is a forty something writer, living and loving her life in Puerta Vallarta. She is fascinated by the subject of male prostitution and decides to write a book on the subject.
This book is written in the third person and from the point of view of many different characters, both in their interviews with Layla and also around their lives, giving the reader a deeper insight into their lives. We meet the men who have sex with women, and other men, for money. We also meet many of the women who pay these men for sex. As the book moved from person to person I struggled to keep up with who was who. This is not necessarily a fault of the writer. Other readers may not have this issue but I was confused by it many times.
The book gives a fascinating insight into the world of male prostitution. It was interesting to read their views on why they chose this way of life and the fact that they are not ashamed or embarrassed by this choice.
This was a very interesting story! I wasn’t expecting it to go the way it did. I like that the woman found that there was more to what she was researching then she thought. The men’s lives were more meaningful then people believed. I like how the characters connected under the circumstances. This book is definitely fast paced but easy to follow. All in all a very good story line, I’m glad I got a chance to read it!
Lie To Me: An Exposé On Sex For Money, By Lynda Fuller
4 out of 5 stars
Layla has found herself in the midst of a world where payment for sex is not only the norm, but considered empowering. Women paying for sex. Originally supposed to have only written a short article on this very reclusive world for a women’s magazine, Layla develops friendships, and in one case with Mateo, a deeper, more intimate relationship. She doesn’t want to fall in love, she doesn’t want that responsibility. He is so much younger than her, yet he fills an empty void in her heart that she didn’t realize existed after the downfall of her marriage. Mateo’s story will break your heart and Layla is exactly what he needs to bounce back and heal from his rough past.
This author does an amazing job with building and intertwining all of the characters in this book. Their stores, quirks and passions are stacked and layered in a way that has you easily falling into the pages of this book and coming out on the other side breathless and slightly teary eyed. Bravo, Ms Fuller, for a fantastic job well done.
4 Star Read
Lie To Me is the first book I’ve read by Lynda Filler. It’s a cleverly written story that introduces the reader to several different characters who provide information for an article being written by Layla. As Layla embarks on meeting with the various characters, Mateo enters her life, and she’s left re-evaluating what she really wants following the break down of her marriage and subsequent divorce that led to her arrival in Puerto Vallarta.
I loved how the author weaved each part of the story together as she shows Layla meeting with each person and learning their journey to becoming a male ‘escort’ or deciding to hire one. Some of the stories aren’t easy to read, but each one shows that they’re ‘normal’ and face the same problems as others do. I suspect the details used in this story were well researched and the author took great care when using the research to create each character and their individual story. We also get some of Mateo’s POV, and I always like it when an author gives a voice to both main characters as it allows you to better understand them and adds beautifully to the story.
Lie To Me is a 4 star read that I’d happily recommend to anyone who has yet to read it!
Lie to Me: An Expose on Sex for Money by Lynda Filler is a sexy romance that depicts confident sexuality
Layla is in Puerta Vallarta where she uncovers men having sex for money. What she notices is that it’s not just one type of man. These men are young and old alike. They are husbands. Some are straight, some are gay. She decides she’s going to get to know them, interview then and write and article. After spending some time with these men, she realizes she’s got more than enough information and could write a book. This is a story she feels needs to be told.
The author does a great job of making the characters real. These aren’t just faceless characters that don’t contribute to the story. These are real people. They’ve experienced pain and insecurities like Mateo. I felt like these characters were in depth and could easily be connected to. I really enjoyed this book.

This book wasnt what I was expecting at all. We follow Layla and her in depth research on the men in Mexico and their freedom of doing what they want for money and have no shame in doing it.
We meet many characters and you learn a lot from each. I cant say more as you need to experience this book for yourself!
I’m not sure what I was expecting from this story, but initially I thought it was non-fiction. It is not. It does have a real feel to it as it’s a look into a world I never knew existed.
This story has a lot of characters. From the escorts to their clients and of course the MC who is a journalist on a journey of discovery through her writing. At times it feels like a travel recommendation for a beautiful vacation and other times is a running commentary on poverty and making it out by doing what needs to be done.
There is a strong story line with some dips and turns but nothing too unexpected based on the content.

Lie to Me: An Expose on Sex for Money was a good 4 star read. This was told in alternating POVs.
Layla is interviewing men for an article she is working on..The fact women are paying for sex is intriguing to her. She ends up developing a friendship with one of the men she interviews..
There is so many interesting things about this book. Once I started I couldn’t put it down. Layla and Mateo were great characters. This is my first read from the author, I look forward to reading more.
Lie To Me: an exposé on sex for money by Lynda Filler tells the tale of Layla, a journalist that decides to write about male prostitution on Puerto Vallarta, and Mateo, a younger man with a dark past that is instantly drawn to Layla. These two will have to navigate their own fears and doubts in order to find in each other what they have been looking for, for a long time. With the emotional backdrop of learning more and more about the men she interviews this book is filled with laughter and tears, moments that are heartbreaking and others that are heartwarming, and characters that will engrave themselves in your heart. I am giving this a well-deserved five star rating because the plot was original and kept me turning pages until the very end.

When I first saw the title for this book I was a little unsure, I had no idea what I was going to be in for, then I read the blurb and it sounded like a really exciting read and oh my gosh it totally was! I loved every minute of this book that had so many twists and turns that I lost count. This is also the first book that I gave read by this author and I don’t think it will be the last. She created amazing characters that were really more than just a fictional person, they sometimes felt very real. I loved all of the different people included in the story, from all different walks of life. I think it’s difficult to write a review without spoiling the book but I without a doubt recommend Lie to Me by Lynda Filler, it was nice to read something a little different and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The author did an amazing job in keeping my interest throughout and I actually was sad when it ended! A great 4 star read!!
Lie To Me: And Exposé on Sex for Money by Lynda Filler
This is the first book I have read by this author and to be honest I wasn’t sure if it was going to be the kind of story I would enjoy reading. I decided to take a chance, and I’m glad I did this book was well written, intriguing, and original.
Kayla, who is a writer decides to write an article on men who sell sex and the women/men who pay for it. She is living in Mexico, in a tourist town and wants to know what the backstory is on how these men got to where they are. Kayla starts to become friends with some of these men that she’s interviewing. I really enjoyed how Layla’s character became so involved and invested in the story she’s writing, so much so that she is going to make it into a book instead of just an article. I thought this book was going to be just about the act of sex, but it was so much more. The stories of these men, secrets of their past and the different reasons why they do what they do was very interesting to read about. This book is very relatable and I found that I couldn’t put it down, I became invested as well. Don’t get me wrong there were plenty of hot and steamy moments! Layla finds herself growing feelings for Mateo, a younger man she has spent a little time with and that’s all it was supposed to be. Both of them are not looking for a relationship but sometimes these things find you when your not looking. Mateo has some problems that he has to work through and Kayla needs to figure out if she’s ready for a relationship. While these two are trying to figure it out I couldn’t help but to hope that they can find their HEA. There are so many more things I want to say about this book but I don’t want to give anything away, so I will leave you with this….I highly recommend this book you will not be disappointed, there’s so much more than meets the eye!!

Lie to Me: An Expose on Sex for Money by Lynda Filler is a surprising read. There was a lot more between the covers than I had imagined. I was expecting an expose on sex for money, a journalistic hard facts and investigative piece- but what I got was so much more- it’s a woman’s fiction/ romance, wrapped around real-life situations which gives it a believable and relatable quality, which helped to deliver a deeper and more complex story than the book first appears. This is my first read from Ms. Filler and after reading this book, it definitely won’t be my last. The author did a wonderful job in infusing her story with emotion, I was quickly invested in these wonderful characters and their story. The story is brought to life with vivid and descriptive imagery. I felt like I was right there along with the characters.
A sexy, engaging, interesting and thought provoking read that tugged at my heart-strings.
Bravo!
Thank you, Ms. Filler!
Lie To Me by Lynda Filler is amazing. This is my first time reading anything by this author. When they say don’t judge a book by its cover, they were talking about this one. I thought the cover looks like a fun and flirty read for the summer, boy was I wrong….it was so much more.
Layla Duncan has found her happiness in Puerta Vallarta. She loves her life and her career. There is just one thing, she has a fetish for hot young men who sells themselves for sex. She decides to write an article for her magazine about these men but get a whole lot more than she bargained for. The subjects of her article become her friends, but one-man Mateo becomes more than just a friend. Can Layla separate her professional life from her personal life? Is Mateo just a fling or is there real feelings involved?
I loved this book it’s a little dark, but a whole lot of sexy. I was pulled in from the very beginning and was sad when it was over. Lynda Filler sure knows how to keep the reader engaged. This was a roller coaster of a ride book. I can’t wait to see what else is out there by this author.
Lie To Me: an exposé on sex for money

5 out of 5 stars
The story Lie To Me: an exposé on sex for money by Lynda Filler is the first book that I have read by the author and I enjoyed it. It tells the story of Layla Duncan and her experiences when she interviews men in the underground escort business in Puerto Vallarta. Through the entire book, you feel the emotions of both those she interviews and also her own emotions and feelings as well. Many of the characters that you are introduced to are likable. They are charming, charismatic and very confident in themselves. They know what woman want and how to make them feel special. You also read about how Layla analysis her own life and her thoughts about love. She is someone who is compassionate towards others. I also enjoyed reading about the character of Mateo. He is a man that you will find sympathetic and his story is at times a hard one to read about. There are those who she interviews for her story that comes to trust her. This is a book that grabbed my attention from the beginning and was hard to put down until I had read the final page. This is a fast-paced story that at times will have you turning pages in order to find out what happens next. It is well-developed with characters that you will not soon forget.
