License to Bite: A Paranormal Romantic Comedy (New Orleans Nocturnes Book 1) by Carrie Pulkinen is a fun story to get lost in for a few hours. As always I love reading Carrie’s stories as they are fun and quirky and the characters just crack me up. Carries books speak for themselves so no need for me to go into the story with you. Trust me when I say Carrie is one author you always want on your radar. Can’t wait for the next one.
This was a super fun read. Jane seems like a spoiled little rich girl until she meets a drop dead sexy vampire while in New Orleans. Being the adventurous woman that she is, her NOLA adventure goes a little awry and she finds herself in deep water. Waking up dead has its advantages, like the hot vampire who sired her but when you have an aversion to blood, it can become downright tedious. If you want a good, easy, fun read, then I recommend you read this book. It sweet and sexy all rolled into one. Go ahead, read it, it does bring about smiles and some giggles from time to time.
I absolutely adored the humor in this book! It was absolutely laugh out loud hilarious all the way through. From the very first sentence i knew i would enjoy this book! I devoured this book in one sitting and would absolutely do it again. I very much look forward to the rest of this series!
I give License to Bite: A Paranormal Romantic Comedy (New Orleans Nocturnes Book 1) by Carrie Pulkinen, 5 stars.
This is a fun Paranormal Romance set in New Orleans. Jane comes across as entitled and spoiled in the beginning of the book. Considering that Ethan is a brooding, depressed vampire, they actually balance each other out. Not to mention that as the book goes on, they bring out more and more of the best of one another. While Jane did annoy me in the beginning of the book, her good qualities really come out as the book does on.
The story is good one too and not necessarily one I’ve read before. Not to mention Jane’s aversion to blood. It is refreshing to read something different in a paranormal romance. Then there is the frustrating feelings Jane and Ethan have for each other. Yes this part has been done before, but the author still makes it entertaining.
If you are a fan of Paranormal Romance set in such an interesting city, this book is for you.
License to Bite (New Orleans Nocturnes book 1) by Carrie Pulkinen is a 3 star read.
Jane Anderson is a travel blog writer, she is on a month long trip to New Orleans with her best friend for her blog, she has to deal with her father, the governor of Texas, trying to treat her like a child and make her come home, but she catches the eye of Ethan and her life might be about to change.
Ethan Deveraux is a vampire living in New Orleans with his sire Gaston, when he sees Jane in a bar he’s sure she’s his lost love, turns out she’s nothing like her and Ethan isn’t sure what he’s letting himself in for when he saves Jane’s life.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author and while it wasn’t my favourite book I would recommend to readers to try this for themselves as everyone’s taste is different.
AHHHH! I absolutely loved reading Carrie Pulkinen’s book Licensed to Bite: A Paranormal Romantic Comedy which is the first book in the series New Orleans Nocturnes. I was excited to read this book as I used to live in Louisiana and LOVE New Orleans and all the paranormal that surrounds it. Jane goes on a girl’s trip to Mardi Gras with a few friends, she didn’t realize she would end up in the arms of a vampire and wake up as one. The irony of it all this is blood makes her faint so how can she pass this? Can Ethan help her get her license? What comes of these two? I love Jane and Ethan; their banter and chemistry is amazing. This story was addicting from the first chapter and I can’t wait to read more of this series!
License to Bite: A Paranormal Romantic Comedy by Carrie Pulkinen is the first book in the New Orleans Nocturnes series. If you are looking for a lighthearted read this is something to grab. The story is about Jane Anderson who takes a girls trip to New Orleans. She is spoiled and not used to being told no. In walks Ethan Devereaux the town’s hottest vampire. A case of mistaken identity is soon figured out and Ethan needs to figure out how to get Jane to become less leary of blood.
I enjoyed the banter between the two characters especially as Ethan tries to train Jane for her license so she doesn’t get staked. This isn’t the same old vampire story. The characters are fun and there are many laughs in this story. I look forward to what happens in the series next.
A new series by a go-to author of mine I jumped at the chance to read this and I wasn’t disappointed. I have read various reads from her and each one draws me and captivates me until the very end, so this read was a must-read!
For this being a quick read, it really is full of content, but left me wanting more from these characters. I absolutely loved this read, its a mentally visual read and I loved picturing New Orleans as its setting, it was quirky, funny and has brilliant chemistry between the characters that I loved watching develop.
There was something about Jane & Ethan’s relationship that really steady them both yet brought out the best in each other in different ways. I loved the friendship between Jane & Sophie and with that ending, I can’t wait to see how Sophie’s story goes!
I highly recommend this read, and ill be eagerly awaiting more from this series!
License To Bite (New Orleans Nocturnes) By Carrie Pulkinen
5 Stars!!!!!
I just love supernatural romances and throwing in comedy really just makes it more enjoyable. This is the first book by this author I have read and also the first book in the series. I was smitten from the very beginning. The characters are just so down to earth and I just fell in love with them.
The chemistry between Jane and Ethan is quite unique. I love that she really wasn’t what he was expecting. The author does such a great job of creating the supernatural world and being set in New Orleans just really makes it even better. I like how there is a mix of supes and a small handful of humans. I like that Jane was her own person and not the reincarnation of Ethan’s Vanessa. The way that they both deal with everything just makes it better. I am very eager to read more from this author and this series.
License to kill is a paranormal romance, but has a very different, and more current feeling, to others I have read in the same genre.
Jane is a travel blogger and is visiting New Orleans during Mardi Gras, with her best friend Sophie, to experience everything there is to offer and document it in her blog. The girls find themselves slightly worse for wear and end up being rescued by dashing, yet brooding, vampire Ethan. The following day, still thinking about Ethan, Jane is fatally wounded in an accident and Ethan is forced to bite her in order to save her, but there is more behind his decision than first thought.
I really enjoyed the fast pace of the story, it fitted well with the Mardi Gras setting. And the characters are fun and flirty, not your usual vampire story types, which made it even more enjoyable.
License to Bite by Carrie Pulkinen is the first book in her new series New Orleans Nocturnes. I had read her Crescent City Ghost Tours so I knew I had to pick up License to Bite. It is a bit different from the Ghost Tours as it ventures even deeper into the paranormal world but as she has written other paranormal stories then I was not surprised at all how much I liked the story. Add to this that it was a paranormal COMEDY then you can just imagine how much fun one could have with it!
License to Bite gives us Ethan Devereaux who has been a vampire for quite many years and he thinks that his heart will never beat again as he lost his fiancée before he was turned. But then enters Jane Anderson, Governor’s daughter, who seems to be Ethan’s fiancée reincarnated but … well, that is not the case when she wakes up sober (after Mardi Gras and all the drinking she had done the night she met Ethan) and on top of that, she has a huge aversion to blood that is an absolute no-no for vampires … and so our romantic paranormal comedy commences, with bells and whistles and with a deadline of three weeks or …
So, if you like paranormal, romance, comedy and New Orleans, then this book AND series if for sure for you so buckle down and here we go!
Jane is the daughter of a governor and used to getting her way. She can charm anyone to do her bidding until she meets Ethan. Once she becomes a vampire, things go slightly south. Jane has a secret she refuses to tell Ethan and it may cause them some serious problems.
License To Bite is fun, sassy, and hard to put down. The characters are well developed and hard to resist.

5-Stars
License to Bite: A Paranormal Romantic Comedy (New Orleans Nocturnes Book 1) by Carrie Pulkinen was a fun and romantic read. It was easy for me to get pulled into the storyline. It was light and witty as well as charming and sweet. I loved Jane, Sophie, Ethan, and Gaston. They were excellent characters and had great personalities. I loved Pulkinen’s creativity in making them. The story had great flow and easily kept my attention. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series!
This was such a pleasure to read. Jane is a spoiled, self-entitled daughter of the governor of Texas, with 4 older brothers. Needless to say she’s used to getting her way. Ethan is a vampire, 25 years dead and punishing himself for something he couldn’t control. When Jane has an accident Ethan turns her instead of letting her die. Oh yes, she can’t stand the sight of blood it makes her faint. Ethan has his hands full trying to help her get her license or she gets staked. I learned to like her the more she began to adjust to her new life. This is a fantastic short read that I will read again.
5 Stars
License to Bite is the first book in the New Orleans Nocturnes series by Carrie Pulkinen. It is a superb Paranormal Romantic Comedy, and definitely sets this series off to a fun start. I have read all Ms. Pulkinen’s books now and have loved them all. This book is a little less spicy and intense than some of her other work, as this has a cuter, sweeter, fun, and humorous look at the New Orleans paranormal world. That’s not to say that there wasn’t any excitement or some dramatic moments that added a little extra ‘zing’ to the story- because there was. Just the overall storyline felt a lot more light-hearted than her other books.
As I said, this is a paranormal romantic comedy- with vampires, witches, magic, vampire politics, and other supernatural elements- all set in mystical New Orleans.
Jane is a travel blogger who has come to New Orleans for her latest article. But things get a little complicated when she wakes up in an attic, a newly turned vampire- after a “selfie” moment goes horribly wrong.
Ethan is a broody, tortured soul- a vampire who has lost his ‘zest’ for ‘life’. When he sees Jane, he is convinced she is his lost fiancée, now reincarnated. He turns her, and soon discovers that there is no way Jane is the person he thought she was. She’s feisty, loud, and oh so frustrating.
But according to the vampire law, Ethan must help her learn to be a vampire. Teaching her their ways and helping her gain her ‘License to Bite”. Without it, she will be staked. They have three weeks to get her into shape. One small problem- Jane faints at the sight of blood- and blood is the very thing that vampires need to survive. MMMM, what will she do?
This is a quick and easy read full of humorous quips, banter, and antics. The romance is sweet, with just enough excitement to keep things interesting. I am definitely looking forward to book two- “Shift Happens”, which is Sophie’s story (Jane’s best friend).
Thank you, Ms. Pulkinen!
Jane is used to getting what she wants. She’s sassy, brassy and classy! Having grown up with an overprotective family has made her rebel and fight to be more independent. It’s on one of these moments of independence she takes a trip with a friend. After a night of partying she’s thrust into the arms of Ethan, a man who believes her to be his beloved.
For Ethan, being reintroduced to his fiance is a dream come true. She’s come back to him and they can live their un-dead lives forever, together. But what he doesn’t realize is that Jane is not that woman. Instead, he has to tolerate her and fight to teach her how to be a vampire, and quickly. If they can’t work together to get her license, then they both in for an ending neither wants.
This snarky, witty, even swoon paranormal romance is just the perfect blend of humor and romance. I loved their interactions and how even though they act like they can’t stand each other, they truly end up being the perfect couple. These are the type of books that can grab your attention and make you want to read them in one sitting. This was a fun and steamy read!

4 Stars
I read Ms. Pulkinen’s Crescent City Wolf Pack series and loved it. When I saw this book, I quickly picked it up to read knowing what a great author she is. This book is completely different. It is fun, light hearted and will keep you laughing. It was nice to see a different side of the author.
Ethan has been a vampire for twenty five years and is broody and miserable. He meets Jane and believes that she’s his ex fiancée reincarnated. When he sees his chance to turn her, he takes it. He can finally be with Vanessa again. When Jane awakens, he realizes she is definitely not his ex. Jane is feisty, spoiled and obnoxious. What has he gotten himself into?
Jane is a blogger. Her and her friend Sarah decide to visit New Orleans and write about the sights. Jane meets the handsome Ethan while drunk and doesn’t really mind waking up with him. Realizing she’s a vampire, she takes it in stride. She now has super human strength, will stay young forever and has skin to die for. Now if she can just stop fainting at the sight of blood, everything will be okay.
The story is cute and funny. Who would have thought a vampire would have an aversion to blood? Although Jane’s yattering made me dizzy, this was a fun book to read. Looking forward to seeing what happens with Sarah.
I really enjoyed reading this story. It is a light, fun and flirty paranormal read. The story was different from other vampire stories I have read. The characters ranged from snarky to broody. Jane was tough to take at first. But then she starts coming up with all of these Edward Cullen movie references. That stuff is golden! She became more palatable after she calmed a bit and realized what a vampire life could do for her. Ethan is the broody one. He likes quiet and order. Jane is like a tsunami coming into his life. His biggest problem….she never stops talking. That give us some good times.
This is thoroughly enjoyable. I read it fairly quickly because it’s good and I love me some Vamp stories. I can’t wait to see what happens to Sophie in the next one!
LICENSE TO BITE is the first book in the New Orleans Nocturnes series. Though each romance will stand on its own, for better enjoyment you will want to read this series in the order of release.
This book is hilarious! Not just funny, but split your gut and spit out your soda. It is creative, fun, entertaining, and has a great touch of steamy romance.
The chemistry between Ethan and Jane is slapstick funny and then truly, deeply, romantic. Jane starts out as an absolute spoiled brat diva – she is the daughter of the governor of Texas after all, but she has an immortal life now to grow up (and to better tolerate the blood she now needs to live).
The characters are all well written, especially Sophie and I am looking forward to her finding her werewolf in the next story, SHIFT HAPPENS.
