Oh my gosh this book is hilarious! Not just parts of it…all the way through~ Jane is the Governor of Texas daughter, has a black belt in karate and is VERY feisty. Her best friend Sophie and her decide to vacation in Louisiana during Mardi Gras. While there, they meet Ethan and Gaston who are both vampires. Ethan is very serious and still pines for his lost love. Gaston is his maker and a party animal. Ethan comes alive when he spots Jane because she reminds him of his lost love. They take them home and see them the next evening. Ethan glamour’s himself so she cannot see him and, in her drunkenness, gets hit by a car. On her deathbed, Ethan on impulse changes her…let the games begin! She awakens and will not stop talking, criticizing, is a smart mouth and will not take no as an answer. She is also extremely bossy and stubborn as well. She magically charms the Council and everyone around her! But, one thing, she has an aversion to blood…she sees it and passes out! She cannot bite a person to get her license! They have a limited amount of time to make it happen or she gets staked! What will happen? Can she do it? How will she squirm her way out of this one? I received this via Booksprout and am leaving a voluntary review.
This is the first book I have read from this author and she has a new fan. I love a good paranormal story but this author exceeded all my expectations. This is the first book of the New Orleans nocturnal series. Once I started this book I could not put it down. It only took me a few hours to devour this addictive story.
Jane Anderson has always gotten her way. She is the daughter of the governor of their town. Jane is so excited to have a girls trip. She is going to New Orleans for the best party ever, Madi Gras. Jane is having the time of her life and better yet she meets a very hot guy but what she doesn’t know is he is a vampire. She ends up becoming immortal herself and she is so excited except she can’t stand blood. Jane is now stuck with Ethan and let’s just say they are not in love with each other. She has only three weeks to learn the ways of being a vampire to get her license. Will Ethan teach her the ways or will he end it all?
Wow! “A License to Bite” is the 1st in the new series, New Orleans Nocturnes. The writing in this book is well done and the story is fresh & so entertaining with great details, awesome characters & witty dialogue! What can I say? I was hooked from the start and couldn’t put the book down until I had finished it in record time. I highly recommend this for those adults 18+ and fans of fiction, and now I can’t wait for the next books after!
Just a moment of peace
This book is sweet and sassy and down right hilarious. The author set up this new series perfectly with this couple, the way they interact and play off of each other. I love how original misconceptions blossom into the perfect HEA. The book is very fast paced and each character has an essential part to play making for an excellent read. I hope we don’t have a long wait for the next book, I can’t wait to see what happens with Sophie and her werewolf.
I loved the witty dialogue paired with creatures of the night and romance.
I’d already read a book further along in the series, so I wanted to read the beginning of Jane and Ethan’s story. I was not disappointed!
It was so much fun to get everyone’s introductions. Jane is feisty chatterbox that endears herself to everyone she meets. Plus, she’s one smart cookie!
Ethan is the damaged brooding hero with an ooy-gooey center.
Then there’s the amazing side characters, Sophie, the best friend, Gaston the drunken vampire who has been there done that, and the Magistrate— I feel like there’s so much more to discover about his character!
I’ll definitely be reading more in this series!
This is a fun book, and in times like today, fun is a good escape. This book reminds me a bit of the early books in the Lynsay Sands Argeneau series. Jane and her BFF Sophie are in New Orleans around Mardi Gras, as Jane is a travel blogger, and the daughter of the Texas governor. After drinking too much one night, they meet Ethan and Gaston – unknown to them in their drunkenness that they are vampires. But Ethan and Gaston get them home safe and sound. The next day, Jane and Sophie are out again, but as Jane is out taking selfies near a cool New Orleans cemetery, she is hit by a car. Ethan gets to her, and changes her into a vampire before she dies. But when she wakes up the next evening, he’s wondering if that was a mistake.
This has some really hilarious moments, and it is fun to see the author compare Ethan to Edward Cullen and Gaston to Jack Sparrow, since Gaston likes to bite the drunk people and get drunk himself, and Ethan is a broody, unhappy vampire. Jane’s aversion to seeing blood makes it even funnier. There are a lot of fun moments, a whole lot of sass and the storyline was not overly deep and suspenseful, but it was a light hearted read that was welcomed in these darker days of winter.
Really enjoyed the narrator in this. The story made me laugh multiple times. It was a nice, easy read. I really enjoyed the characters and the plot. I really enjoyed the writing. The narrator definitely brought the story to life and was a great choice.
This was the first book I’ve read by this author. I’m not to into paranormal romance although I do love vampires which is why I picked this one out. Was pretty decent. Jane got on my nerves a bit but she did have a good heart. The banter between her and Ethan was funny. It turned out she was exactly who he needed. I look forward to reading the other books in the series.
License to Bite: A Paranormal Romantic Comedy (New Orleans Nocturnes Book 1) by Carrie Pulkinen – Review by Gail Guerrero
Five Stars
Five stars because I laughed so hard while reading this story. The author really knew what she was doing when she put this together. The main female lead is so ornery and feisty it’s no wonder they want to stake her. I find the fact that they have to get a license to bite hilarious. I just couldn’t get enough. The male lead did upset me a little. Like you turn me because you think I’m you lost love. Nah that’ not how this works. Love me for me not just cause I remind you of someone. The author did a great job giving us something classic with a spin. I am looking forward to see what all the author has to offer. You don’t find many authors who make you go though ups and downs.
LICENSE TO BITE is the first book in the New Orleans Nocturnes series and up first we have an entitled rich girl and a moody vampire.
Ethan is a serious vampire and still carries over two decades of guilt over his girlfriend. Jane is entitled, who thinks she can get away with anything because of her family. Ethan, I loved. Jane, nah, not so much.
There are many references to Twilight in here which seems completely appropriate as it takes place after the films are aired. Surely any vampire would be compared now?! Jane mainly called him Edward when he is annoying her, which seems to be most of the time.
This is supposed to be a fun, lighthearted romantic comedy and for the most part, it pulls it off. Some of the time it headed toward slapstick and other times I was waiting for a reaction and didn’t get one.
So, overall, my rating would be 3.5-stars and I would recommend it if you want a light read with lots of Twilight references.

Archaeolibrarian – I Dig Good Books!
License to Bite: A Paranormal Romantic Comedy (New Orleans Nocturnes Book 1) by Carrie Pulkinen, is a delightful little romance. And what could be better than vampires. But what I like about the vampires in this story is it’s not all drama drama drama. It’s light-hearted and fun especially Jane. She’s very headstrong and confident even in the face of a world she didn’t know existed. Great characters, a great world, and just a delightful story. Reader beware there is an incident of very adult situation. But it’s not so heavy that it distracts from this great little story. This book was a lot of fun.
This is the first book in the New Orleans Nocturns series. The story follows Jane, the Governors daughter, and Ethan, the hot as sin vampire. Jane takes a trip to Mardis Gras and ultimately falls for Ethan. Ethan turns her into a vampire. There is only one problem. Jane cannot stand the sight of blood. She has got 3 weeks to earn her vampire license or she gets staked – Ethan has his job cut out for him.
Sometimes you just need something light and fun. You know, when you’ve had that hard day at work, the kids are annoying you, and dinner’s burned. You just want to get away from it all. Well, this is definitely a ‘Calgon’ kinda book! (Does anyone else get that reference?)
License to Bite: A Paranormal Romantic Comedy (New Orleans Nocturnes Book 1) by Carrie Pulkinen was a cute campy read. As a first-time reader of Ms. Pulkinen, I enjoyed the premise of the story and found myself chuckling along. Ethan Devereaux, a “young” vamp meets Jane Anderson and is instantly intrigued. She pulls at him in some unforeseen way and he can’t figure out why. When circumstances force Ethan to “turn” Jane, he thinks it’s fate at hand. Until Jane “wakes up” and he’s wondering what he ever did to deserve what fate has plopped into his lap.
Jane Anderson is just coasting along in life. The daughter of the governor of Texas, she is itching to stretch her wings and her trip to ‘The Big Easy’ with her best friend is her chance. Until she meets Ethan (kinda). Interested in discovering more about the mysterious man, she is unprepared when she finds herself in his home and undead.
Now Ethan must teach her everything she needs to know about being a vampire and Jane has to get over her aversion to blood to get her vampire license. But not everyone wants to see Ethan and Jane succeed. Can Ethan help Jane get over her quirks in time or will they both end up staked,
Using witty humor combined with interesting characters, Ms. Pulkinen weaves a good tale that keeps the reader engaged. The chemistry between the two main characters is not heavy but consistent. The sub-characters are fun and interesting, leading the reader to want to know them better. If you are looking for a cute lighthearted book, this is one you should definitely pick up.
License to Bite: A Paranormal Romantic Comedy is the first book in the New Orleans Nocturnes series by Carrie Pulkinen. It is the first book I have read, but I will continue the series because it was hilarious. The book is about Jane Anderson, daughter of Texas governor, going to New Orleans for Mardi Gras with her best friend. She is trying to be independent and prove to her dad and brothers she can make it as a blogger, but gets herself into quite a pickle. She finds herself being turned into a vampire on her second night there, which is bad enough… but she can’t stand the sight, or idea, of blood. Jane is sassy and sarcastic, and her “sire” Ethan is torn between being annoyed with her, and the magnetic draw he has to her. He first thought she was his past fiancé, but he was so very wrong. The banter between Ethan and Jane, and Ethan and his sire Gaston, is perfect. (Jane even ties in Beauty and the Beast song when she learns his name, had me dying laughing) I like that this isn’t the normal dark vampire story, but instead is a funny ironic take on it. I can’t wait to read the other stories in the series.
License to bite is the first book in the New Orleans Nocturnes series By Carrie Pulkinen. This is the first book that i have read by Carrie Pulkinen and it holds true to the title it is full of romance and comedy. I loved the characters in this book Gaston and Ethan, Jane and her best friend Sophie. I thought it was a fun and super cute read. Jane’s Character is use to getting what she wants and i feel is a little spoiled so when she comes across Ethan and he don’t give her the time or day at first it was fun to read it unravel. I would really like to read more about Gaston and Jane. I look forward to reading book 2 in this series. Thank you Carrie Pulkinen for this amazing book and making me laugh.

My rating: 5 out of 5 stars
This book is absolutely hilarious. It was short, but an absolutely worth it, read. Jane gets turned into a vampire. Who doesn’t like the sight of blood!!! I mean seriously Jane!? This was a cute read and a different perspective of vampires. I loved it, I am definitely going to read the rest of the series! That cliffhanger was very surprising!!
License to Bite is a fast paced paranormal rom-com. Despite being a little spoiled perky Jane Anderson is at heart a really nice gal. Vampire Ethan Devereaux is about as emo as they get. These two are total opposites yet perfect for each other. After finishing this book I immediately went and bought the rest of the series.
Five comedic stars for my first vampire romance. I needed a vampire romance for a monthly reading challenge in Claire Kingsley’s Alpha Ever After reading group. This book came recommended by other readers as a lighter vampire romance, making it perfect for my first.
Ethan has been undead for 25 years when he meets Jane and mistakes her for his reincarnated ex-fiancee. By the time he figures out he is mistaken, he is stuck with Jane forever.
I felt for poor Ethan as he adjusted to his new reality with the talkative Jane. He was sweet and grumpy, which I loved. Jane is a force to be reckoned with. I loved her confidence and her savvy in social situations. Together they make an extraordinary team. I love that they are drawn together physically and their time together was intimate and hot. The setting of New Orleans is perfect for this series of books about beings with supernatural powers. This book is written in third person from dual POV. This was my first book by this author, but I will definitely be reading more.
I loved this book! It full of laughs and feel good romance. I stayed up late to read it all in one sitting and now I can’t wait to read book two! Ethan was so sweet and Jane is a girl I could be best friends with! Honestly, you’ll love these two. I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys paranormal romance with lots of comedy. It is also a very quick read.
License to Bite is the first book in the New Orleans Nocturnes series.
Final Rating: 5 Stars
Jane Anderson is on a girls’ trip in New Orleans with her best friend, Sophie, when she attracts the attention of a vampire named Ethan. Ethan believes her to be the reincarnation of his long dead, fiancee so when Jane is run over by a truck, he turns her. What follows is the often hilarious steps towards their relationship and his teaching her to be a vampire. Jane is the daughter of a governor and used to things going her way and getting exactly what she wants while Ethan is mired down with guilt. Can the two of them learn to give a little?
This was a great start to a series and is full of humor and romance. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and loved the by play between Jane and Ethan l. This book is well-written with well-developed characters. I love Carrie Pulkinen’s books and this one is no exception. I’m really looking forward to the next book.
