Rating:
This was a pretty great MC romance book. One thing I like about the MC romance sub genre is that they tend to be very sexy and also have an interesting story as well. If an MC romance is lacking in either area, I won’t give it a high rating. This one had both in spades, though there were a few things I didn’t like about it, though other people might really like the things I didn’t.
This was the story of Flint Mason, a very good lawyer for all intents and purposes, but he works in the public defenders office in order to help people who otherwise couldn’t afford a decent lawyer. Flint gets a call from his brother Jesse, who is president of the Steel Infidels Motorcycle Club. Jesse tells flint that his best friend, Tommy was killed by their rival MC, the Liberators. Flint and Tommy grew up together as friends, then later rode side by side when Flint was a member of the Steel Infidels.
After Flint’s mother died, the family fell apart and Flint moved away and started a new life. Though a lot of people back home were angry at him for leaving the club. That included Tommy and Flints younger brother Sam, who was still under age when Flint moved away. Sam was left to fend for himself while living with their drunk and abusive father.
Flint feels a lot of guilt for leaving Sam and is upset that he never made peace with Tommy, so he moves back home, turning his back on the law and rejoining the outlaw motorcycle club. Months later, flint meets veterinarian Kendra Shaw and falls for her pretty quickly. Kendra is described as having long dark hair and being full figured.
I know it is very popular in romance books lately to have the heroine be a “BBW”. Though I am not one who likes it. One reason is that it is not very realistic since the men are always hot, muscular, with super hard bodies and a nice sized package. I just don’t see many guys like that wanting plus sized women in real life. Sure it does happen but not as often as contemporary romance novels would suggest. I just think if your going to imagine that the guy is so perfect, why not imagine the woman is as well.
I understand that many women are overweight and like their bodies, but that hasn’t been anyone I have ever known. Everyone I know who is overweight hates it and is often dieting. I have been very thin in my life and have been what I would call fat as well, and I like being thin so much better. So that is my soap box and my personal opinion, though I realize a lot of people disagree or BBW books would not be so popular.
I don’t even mind them when they mention it once or twice, but when it is said over and over in a book is when I don’t like it. This book mentions it a lot, though in different ways, like talking about her ample backside, her heavy breasts and large nipples, many times as well as other parts of her anatomy or the fact that she isn’t as thin as the girls that hang around the MC.
Despite those issues I had with the book, It was very steamy. There were quite a few intimate scenes between Flint and Kendra and they were super hot! They both like things a bit rough and I really enjoyed all the scenes between the two main characters. I would give this book a heat index of 5 out of five flames . It was definitely in line with a lot of the better MC books I have read.
The storyline about the war between the Steel Infidels and the Liberators was also very good. I know that in these MC novels, a war between rival MC’s is a common theme, but I like how this one played out. I also liked that this book can be read as a standalone. I didn’t read the first book, though I probably will read more of them, since there was really only one thing I didn’t like about the book and that thing is in the majority of romance books nowadays.
Flint and Kendra’s story continues. Flint’s MC brothers clears away all the evidence from up on the mountain and he and Kendra continue their journey of learning about each other. When Jesse is accused of killing the woman who gave them the heads up about their rival MC coming for them she is killed and Jesse is left as the one the police thinks killed her. Flint’s true identity is revealed and Kendra is shocked. Will Flint’s deception lose him a good woman? This story is heating up and keeps you glued to the paged to see what will happen next!
Dr. Kendra Shaw is called out for what she thinks is an animal emergency only to find biker Flint in need of medical care. Kendra is between a rock and a hard place with treating him but she decides to take care of him but never expects to find herself attracted to the man.
There is a lot to Flint that Kendra does not know and he knows she is so far out of his reach it is unbelievable. That being said Flint wants Kendra can eh have what he knows he doesn’t deserve or will he let her go?
Quite a bit different for MC series. I liked Flint and you see him trying to renavigate himself into the MC. I do think it might have helped to read book one first as there seems to be some backstory that is touched upon. Great read
