The first book in the landmark Expanse series, now a major television series from Syfy Leviathan Wakes is James S. A. Corey’s first novel in the epic, New York Times bestselling series the Expanse, a modern masterwork of science fiction where humanity has colonized the solar system. Two hundred years after migrating into space, mankind is in turmoil. When a reluctant ship’s captain and … mankind is in turmoil. When a reluctant ship’s captain and washed-up detective find themselves involved in the case of a missing girl, what they discover brings our solar system to the brink of civil war, and exposes the greatest conspiracy in human history.

Great book and the tv adaptation was great.
It was too wordy to be a page turner. I really wanted to like this book to buy the series, but…a good stream-lining would helpful.
Colonies on Mars…
Mining stations among the asteroids…
A secret alien technology…
…guarded over by an interplanetary conspiracy.
Can Jim Holden hold onto his scavenged Mars attack ship and discover the origins of this ancient alien threat?
Will Detective Miller find patient zero of a virus that has turned a moon-sized space station into an …
This book has always been one of my favorite sci-fi’s out there. The authors spin a story that will haunt you forever. It provides just the right amount of fear, sorrow, action, and romance all novels are looking for. I recommend it 100%.
Mars, Earth, and the “Belt” live in an uneasy peace, until an unprovoked attack on a civilian freighter starts to ignite a war. Earther Jim with his mottled crew as well as a police detective from the Belt try to figure out who is provoking the nations.
In an afterthought I actually do not understand WHY a galactic war was necessary?
However, I …
Amos, need i say more? I think not.
Loved this series! Our solar system is called The Expanse. Solves the enormous distance problem by having someone invent a much more efficient rocket drive allowing ships to cover the distance from Earth to Jupiter (when they’re aligned), say, in a week or so instead of decades. Our heroes problems arise from three governments: Earth, Mars, and …
This book was solid across the board on plot, character development, world-building, technological concepts, and writing quality. Plot-wise it’s a neo-noir with an unexpectedly dark turn halfway through the book, and Miller was a very effectively done antihero. It was a good page-turner too, with medium-length chapters that always had a twist, …
Great series start. Makes me want more
After watching “The Expanse” on TV and hearing so many good things about the series, I decided to read book one. Really enjoyed it! Looking forward to reading more in this series.
One of the best modern sci-fi franchises out there. If you have not read this book yet, you’re doing yourself a disservice.
I now see why this series of books has taken off as a TV-show. This first book is quite thrilling and populated by very compelling characters. I cannot wait to read the rest of this trilogy.
Check this out if you’re in the mood for exciting space battles.
Let it never be said that adaptations don’t lead you to the source material. I was led to LEVIATHAN WAKES by the Expanse television series on the Syfy channel and, thus, had a bit of difficulty starting on because I knew the story of the first book but was interested in how the story sometimes zigged instead of zagged. It makes me want to read the …
A lot has already been said about Leviathan Wakes, I mean it’s hard to sway people when a book has been made into a successful TV series. Let me just say that I enjoyed the book, but I found it was probably longer than it needed to be. The pacing was slow, and even as the story was reaching it’s conclusion I just wanted it to be over. I was …
This is character driven sci-fi at it’s best. Well written, suspenseful and compulsively readable.
Great vision of colonization in the solar system. I highly recommend!
I’m pretty partial to a military space opera, and this is one of the best.
Scifi without warpdrive or faster than light technologie. Refreshing!
One of the best SF books I’ve read in years!
