I loved the Expanse TV show and thought I would try the books. This one is very similar to Season 1 minus the Avasarala parts (the book is set up so each chapter is a particular character’s point of view and she is not a POV character in the first book). The POV characters are mostly Holden and Miller. I loved the book too and will be continuing …
I’m reading Leviathan Wakes and enjoying it so far. Thanks for the recommendation, Buzz hive mind.
I tend to be wary of SF series, but at the same time really love finding a good one. Leviathan Wakes was recommended to me, and I really enjoyed it. Strong, complex characters I could root for, the touch of humor I love, and plenty of action and SF world building. It was a good introduction to the series, and certainly kept me reading.
Folks, there’s a reason why this book has won awards, and that’s because this was awesome. Weirdly fantastic and spell-binding. This is the stuff science fiction is made of. I can’t say enough good things about LEVIATHAN WAKES. It’s the first book of The Expanse series, I moved straight onto Book 2 right after. In the introduction to this world, …
I started reading Leviathan Wakes after watching the first season of The Expanse with my son. I like watching sci-fi on TV, but I rarely read science-fiction books. I found the show intriguing enough to where I wanted to learn more. I really thought that I would have a hard time understanding the technology. Despite the fast-pace and being …
I loved everything about this book. Just as great as I was hoping it’d be. Loved reading from the POV of Holden and Miller. I got my sci-fi fix, some mystery, and some action. What an excellent book.
I started reading these books after watching the show on Amazon Prime and both are excellent. The show has done an amazing job of translating the stories to the screen. It might seem backwards to watch the show first, but the show is so well cast, as I went back and read the story, the characters I saw on screen seemed to match the characters …
Leviathan Wakes was an amazing book, a highly engaging story filled with complex characters and dynamic situations. Part mystery, part political thriller, part conspiracy theory, and all science fiction epic. Not since Firefly have I found a ship and crew I loved this much. Already well into the second book and looking forward to seeing what comes …
This book inspired me to write space opera. I love this series.
The beginning of a fantastic series. Leviathan Wakes and the subsequent books have it all: Fine writing, multi-layered story, complex, interesting characters, and a richly imagined future that feels all too real. Corey’s geo-political landscape encompasses the solar system and beyond, and we view events as seen on all levels of society, from the …
One of the best science fiction series I have ever read in the last decade. Original, exciting, with wonderful characters.
I really enjoyed the book. I wish the series was a little more faithful to the book.
First read of 2021. Who knew this chunker would take me out of a years-long reading slump? Fast paced space opera with characters I adore. It’s not perfect, but I loved it.
The noir-style portions wasn’t for me, but I can see why people would enjoy it. Too male centric with its POV characters, but this changes from the next book in the series so …
Honestly, I read this book because the TV serial was so highly recommended. I’m backwards like that, but the book is often better than the book. So here I am, 1000+ page into the ‘The Expanse’. I’m not mad about that; quite the opposite, actually.
Leviathan Wakes is kind of a pleasant surprise. There’s enough plausible future technology, world …
The first book in The Expanse series depicts a realistic possibility for the future of humanity while beating one message into the reader like a drum: No matter how much technology we develop, we’ll still be human. We’ll still separate ourselves into tribal communities, even if those tribes are millions of people living in an asteroid or space …
Best of the best! I listen on Audible, I have the whole series but now I’m spoiled. What I liked most was how everything connects from politics to the crisis to the hidden agendas. I highly recommend this series! Now I can’t find anything as good as this to listen to!
Thought I started as a writer in science fiction and still dabble, recently my interest had transitioned mostly to mystery. But I became a fan of The Expanse TV show, and then devoured the books it was based on. They can be complex and hard to follow occasionally, but the worldbuilding is deep, convincing, and fascinating. And the characters are …
I am enamored with all the books of The Expanse. It is a pleasure to read sci-fi that is reality-based with such strong characters. I think Amos is my favorite, though I wouldn’t want to meet him.
So after discovering ‘The Expanse’ series on Amazon Prime I just had to read the books the show was based on. To my delight I found the TV version was just different enough from the books to keep either of them fresh if you’ve already experienced the other. Both have plenty of action and interesting characters, but the thing that keeps you coming …
I don’t usually read sci fi but I’m always up for trying something new ( except morris dancing) and I wasn’t disappointed. What an amazing world he built out in space, not that I want to go there, I even found myself holding my breath when the characters were outside the spacecraft. The twist at the end wasn’t disappointing either, its a must …
