Lieutenant Eve Dallas puzzles over a bizarre suicide bombing in a Wall St. office building in Leverage in Death, the latest in the #1 New York Times bestselling series from J.D. Robb… For the airline executives finalizing a merger that would make news in the business world, the nine a.m. meeting would be a major milestone. But after marketing VP Paul Rogan walked into the plush conference room, … into the plush conference room, strapped with explosives, the headlines told of death and destruction instead. The NYPSD’s Eve Dallas confirms that Rogan was cruelly coerced by two masked men holding his family hostage. His motive was saving his wife and daughter–but what was the motive of the masked men?
Despite the chaos and bad publicity, blowing up one meeting isn’t going to put the brakes on the merger. All it’s accomplished is shattering a lot of innocent lives. Now, with the help of her billionaire husband Roarke, Eve must untangle the reason for an inexplicable act of terror, look at suspects inside and outside both corporations, and determine whether the root of this crime lies in simple sabotage, or something far more complex and twisted.

I’ve read all the books in the “death” series. Fast reading and totally entertaining.
I love all the In Death books. This one was especially chilling since the bad guys are so unrepentant and uncaring towards the people they use and kill.
I also liked the soft side of the story as everyone is preparing for the Oscars.
Eve and Roark are so real in that they still get frustrated with each other but only dig in more to their love and commitment.
I have read the IN DEATH series from book I and am hooked with each new addition. The characters are unforgettable and I inhale them when they arrive.
JD Robbs In death series are great, she will have you laughing, crying and wanting to kill. Start with Naked in death book #1 in the series you will not be disappointed.
One of my favorites from beginning to end.
It’s hard to imagine there are any new plots available to write about in this series by J.
D. Robb, but this 47th installment is taken from the headlines of today’s world.
another great In Death book. There isn’t one I don’t like or haven’t read over and over.
J.D. Robb does not disappoint. Per usual, from the beginning you are introduced to the newest murder case. The targets are businesses that have a devoted father/loving family with one child. The father is given an ultimatum –his family or himself and his business associates.
Eve is dealing with the upcoming Oscars for and her friend/newscaster Nadine for her book The Icove Agenda . The book has been made into a movie giving her very special status as a cop and her friend a successful book and movie to her credit (this all upcoming in the middle of her present murder case). This data is all resulting from murders several years ago.
I was reading at midnight last night but had to find out what happened with the
take down of the last suspect. I won’t say, but do catch this one.
As with all JD Robb books she has your attention form the first page. Never a fail in the story when she is writing.
I find ALL the JD Robb books great. I own most of them.
It is always fun to see what the plot is in Robb’s books. This one was of mass public murders by bombs. Eve figures the angles out quickly but continues to work on The Who and why. Good read. Like the what’s happening between Eve and Peabody. I would recommend this book.
JD Robb is an automatic read for me. I love her characters and the easy flow of her stories. Her imagination is vivid and her world building is remarkable.
Best series ever. I read it again and again.
J.D. Robb (pseudonym for Nora Roberts) is one of my favorite authors. Other than four anthologies that contain In Death novellas, I have read all of this series except for Connections in Death (pub. 2/5/2019) and Vendetta in Death (pub. 9/3/2019). This futuristic suspense series never lets me down.
Lieutenant Eve Dallas of the NYC police department leads a team of homicide detectives. Our case in this novel begins with a man walking into a pre-merger signing meeting to review the marketing campaign. He is strapped with explosives which he sets off and kills several people. This is where the investigation starts, but it doesn’t end here. It has some twists and turns to it.
The normal cast of supporting characters are there to one degree or another. Roarke, Eve’s billionaire husband, helps her as usual as a civilian consultant. Peabody, her partner, has a couple of hilarious scenes. Additionally, Peabody shows some growth in our detective analytical abilities. Other police detectives have active roles in the case as well. It was good to see that Trueheart continues to develop as a detective.
On the personal side, the screenplay adaptation of the book written by Nadine is up for an Oscar. It is about one of Eve’s earlier cases. Who gets to attend? Does it win?
While this book has some action, it is mostly a police procedural. What were the motivations for the murders? The case is extremely complex and challenging. There are numerous suspects that have to be interviewed and researched.
The story is well-written and entertaining It is tragic and has a dramatic ending, but is interspersed with some humor as well as a little romance and a couple of steamy scenes. I highly recommend this series.
The fact that I read this book from start to finish in one day, really says it all. I adored this book. I even shed a few tears while reading the last two pages. As I said, over 47 books these characters have turned into close friends and when they experience all the happies, my eyes leak a little.
Love JD Robb and Roake and Dallas. Always enjoyable.
I’ve read every one of the J.D Robb books and love the development of all the characters through all of them. The mysteries in each book are good, some better than others, but I love the progression of the character development and the interaction between the characters. With each new title, can’t wait to see where the character relationships go next.
I’ve read the majority of the In Death series and I’ve enjoyed them. I enjoyed this one as well, but sadly, not as much as some in the past. The story line was taught and well thought out, but there were editorial issues that got in the way of my enjoyment. Occasionally, I couldn’t tell who was talking, a rookie mistake which I’m surprised by in one of Robb’s books. Further, the bad guy sort of came out of nowhere on this one, which I haven’t seen before in this series.
These issues aside, Eve Dallas did not disappoint. She is still the hardcore cop with a heart. Despite some challenges, the book remained a page turner with high tension and a satisfying conclusion. The addition of the Oscars as a backdrop made for additional fun.
Love all of the In Death books
A terrific book. Couldn’t put it down.
