Lieutenant Eve Dallas puzzles over a bizarre suicide bombing in a Wall St. office building in Leverage in Death, the latest in the #1 New York Times bestselling series from J.D. Robb… For the airline executives finalizing a merger that would make news in the business world, the nine a.m. meeting would be a major milestone. But after marketing VP Paul Rogan walked into the plush conference room, … into the plush conference room, strapped with explosives, the headlines told of death and destruction instead. The NYPSD’s Eve Dallas confirms that Rogan was cruelly coerced by two masked men holding his family hostage. His motive was saving his wife and daughter–but what was the motive of the masked men?
Despite the chaos and bad publicity, blowing up one meeting isn’t going to put the brakes on the merger. All it’s accomplished is shattering a lot of innocent lives. Now, with the help of her billionaire husband Roarke, Eve must untangle the reason for an inexplicable act of terror, look at suspects inside and outside both corporations, and determine whether the root of this crime lies in simple sabotage, or something far more complex and twisted.

Nothing like sitting in the shade with a stack of paperbacks or my e-reader on hot summer days. I loved my latest “visit” with Eve and Roarke! JD Robb never disappoints.
My Review
A high-tech page-turning mystery from the queen of suspense!
When a well-liked man with a successful career enters a business meeting wearing a suicide vest and blows everyone in the room to kingdom come, Lieutenant Eve Dallas begins an investigation into a web of intrigue like no other.
When it’s confirmed the suspect was in fact a victim- his family was beaten and threatened with death unless he went through with the detonation- Dallas seeks Roarke’s help to determine why. Just as the list of possible suspects grows, another explosion and the theft of some paintings takes the case in a completely different direction.
Time is running out before the thieves strike again- will Roarke and Dallas figure out what is going on before more people die?
Leverage in Death is an explosive hit! There are so many twists and turns to this one and yet the author does a superb job of tying all the loose ends.
There’s a fight scene toward the end that had me literally gasping!

What would you do to save two people you love more than yourself, more than anything?”
Roarke laid a hand over hers. “Absolutely anything.”

“You do know it’s leopards that don’t change their spots, not polka dots?”
“A leopard’s born, lives, and dies a leopard, so that’s that.”
“That’s rather the point of the adage.”
“Why need an adage on something that’s just that? It’s a waste of words. If people didn’t have stupid sayings about the obvious, they wouldn’t waste so many words and talk so damn much.”

She lay under him, weak, dizzy, empty of anger. And somehow tendrils of sorrow trailed in to fill the void. “It’s not you I don’t trust. It’s never you.”
“It’s never me you want to distrust,” he countered. “But there are still times, just now and then, when those cop’s eyes are on me and say different.”

I give Leverage in Death 5+ lovely Kisses- Must-read Suspense!
I love this series so much. That’s just fact. Every single book is a pleasure to read.
Leverage in Death was thrilling, full of favorite characters and a plot that was riveting and exciting. But best of all, the author gave me many scenes of Roarke and Eve.
In Leverage in Death Eve is hunting the elusive WHY. Trying to find answers to why, who, and how the cases and people are linked. The search is taking a toll on her because she cares so much, and every death is a another burden on her shoulders.
The story was as always well plotted, thrilling, and kept me glued to the pages. It’s no surprise that I read Leverage in Death in one sitting. The case was truly fascinating. Tragic but fascinating. I loved how much time Eve and Roarke were able to spend together on this case. Even though Roarke is always incredibly busy, he consistently has time for his Lieutenant. And Eve’s willingness to ask for help is endearing and an example of her trust and growth over the years. She is less stubborn and more willing to compromise. Eve has without any doubt come a long way.
There were some amazingly touching and deeply satisfying scenes in this book. Scenes that made me smile and sigh. The author always manages to add small nuances to the relationships Eve has with the rest of the cast. Her ongoing war with the candy thief. Or her obvious helplessness regarding Bella. And Eve’s willingness to go the extra mile for her partner left me smiling so hard. I love her so much!!!! Flaws and all, she is one of my favorite characters EVER!!!
This is by far one of my most favorite mystery series.
The suspense, romance, and interaction between the characters is what makes me come back again and again. If I’m ever stranded on an island, I would want to have this series with me. It never gets old.

You would think that after over 20 years and nearly 50 books in a series, I would be growing tired of the In Death series, however it is the complete opposite.
Each and every time a new Dallas and Roarke (or as I have named him, Raawwrke lol) book is released I am like a kid a Christmas. And Leverage In Death is no exception.
Dallas is on the hunt for a killer who is certainly racking up a body count, and is chasing the why? None of it seems to make sense at first, but we know our girl is a bloodhound and will always catch her man.
Full of intriguing storylines, a whodunnit that I didn’t catch on to until Ms Robb revealed it, I was hooked from the first chapter until the last.
I love that we got plenty of Dallas/Roarke time, however I always adore the side characters (who after all these years aren’t really side characters at all, but family). I love seeing where there lives are at in each and every book.
Ms Robb keeps me on the edge of my seat (or, the edge of my couch as I laze around reading) each and every time, and I can’t wait to see where Dallas and Roarke take us next.
Another great Eve Dallas story.
I’ve read all the JD Robb books. This one was excellent. I think they’re all good, but some grab me more than others and this one did. Classic JD Robb. It focused a lot on Eve and Roarke, which I liked. More so than some of the others lately. They’re always in the books, of course, but while there were other characters that are in all of them, it seemed like more of an Eve and Roarke story. Great story. If you like JD Robb you’ll like this book a lot.
I love in death series. Lieutenant Eve Dallas is one of a kind. This series just keeps getting better. And maybe next time we will find out who’s stealing the candy.
Another great In Death book from J.D. Robb. They just keep getting better!
As always, like each book in the series this was great. Story line continues seamlessly throughout. Roark and Eve continue to grow together. Surrounding cast of characters pop in and satisfy. Loved it.
All of the great characters from the In Death series are back in Leverage in Death. In addition to the homicides the police are solving in this futuristic police procederal, you get to see how the characters are growing and what they’re up to, which is often humorous. It’s a nice balance with the seriousness of the crimes. I love the In Death series and recommend it to anyone who loves both mysteries and romances.
I never get tired of reading about Eve and Roarke. This one is as good as most of the others and won’t disappoint fans. It’s not the best in the series, but it’s a fun read and well done, as are all of Nora Roberts’s books. She tells a hell of a story.
Always a pleasure, the In Death series is hands down my favorite series of books in any genre. It’s like going back to old friends with each new installment. By the 47th book, you know the quirks and eccentricities of each character, from over-the-top Mavis to Galahad the cat, and you can’t wait to “see” them again.
Leverage in Death, while a great addition to the series, featured a central plot which felt a bit clunky to me. It was appropriately horrifying, but a bit convoluted – not nearly as streamlined as past installments in the series. The characters, as I said, are always interesting, and it’s their interactions with each other that make this story work.
All of that said, I’ll be eagerly awaiting #48!
You would think that after forty-seven books, this series would start to falter, but it hasn’t. It is still as interesting, intriguing and mesmerizing as it was in the beginning. The mysteries are heart-stoppingly intense and the romance with Roarke and Eve is definitely sigh worthy. There is always humor that will make you chuckle and/or shake your head, familiar characters that you love and victims that will make you cry. You definitely cannot go wrong if you choose a book in this series.
Lieutenant Eve Dallas has definitely caught a gruesome case this time. Twelve victims were blown to bits and many more injured. But, there is no doubt about who exploded the bomb. The question is WHY. The bomber is a well-liked manager at the company, he loves his job, he loves the people with whom he works and, above all, he loves his wife and daughter. What in the world could ever cause him to blow himself and eleven other people to bits?
As Eve and her team investigate, we learn that the bomber is a victim himself. Eve is convinced that the culprits will not quit with just this one crime and she knows that another family is at risk. They identify a man that they are sure knows something – only to have him turn up dead. Then, another gruesome bombing. The chase is breath-stopping, the villains are a true surprise, and Eve is as hard-nosed and determined as ever.
I always love that there is a ‘back story’ going along with the mystery – just as there would be in real life. This time, it is the Oscars. As you know, Nadine wrote a book, The Icove Agenda, about one of Eve’s cases and it was made into a ‘vid’. Now, it is up for about a half-dozen Oscars – from screenplay to song. Everybody, except Eve, is very excited about the event. You’ll just love Eve’s very expected reactions. I also loved that there was more of Truehart, Baxter, Carmichael, and Bella in this one – but I missed Morris.
I bought the Whispersync version of this book and I just can’t say enough about Susan Ericksen’s narration. I love her voice range and the believable way she makes each of them sound. Just hearing the way she says (as Roarke) ‘Darlin’ Eve’ gives me goosebumps.
Great book! Now, I have to wait until February for the next one – bummer.

I read purely for entertainment, and the entire In Death series delivers every single time! I’ve got them all!
Nora Roberts/J.D.Robb is always a great story teller. I love visiting with Eve, Roarke,Peabody, and the rest. Each persons story and the their involvement in the murder is thrilling. I always say I’m going to take my time to read her books and end up finishing them within 2 days.
I love JD Robb – This book was a good Robb junkie “fix,” although the character development (especially the villains) was somewhat sketchy – Not enough clues to figure out the direction the story was going in. That being said, I own every single book in this series, and most of them have been read more than twice!
I never get tired of this series, this book was another pleasure to read.
I love the banter between Eve and Peabody. I do want to know why Eve can’t catch that candy thief with future technology lol
Plenty of dramatic moments in this one, death and destruction, it was well plotted and I had no idea who or why. Thanks for all the Eve and Roark moments, always sigh worthy.
Great story and I highly recommend it.
I adore j d robb
Good read. Fast moving and attention getting
I cant say I have ever disliked any of J D Robb’s books, the latest was not disappointing. I never get anything done around the house when I am reading about Dallas and Roarke.
