THE FIRST BOOK OF THE SURRENDER TRILOGYIn her sensational Breathless Trilogy, #1 New York Times bestselling author Maya Banks tested the boundaries of desire. In her new trilogy, there’s only one thing left to do: cross them. And never have the consequences of erotic exploration been so irresistibly inviting, so shockingly intimate, and so totally unexpected… unexpected…
LETTING GO
Josslyn found perfection once, and she knows she’ll never find it again. Now widowed, she seeks the one thing her beloved husband couldn’t give her: dominance. Lonely, searching for an outlet for her grief and wanting only a brief taste of the perfection she once enjoyed, she seeks what she’s looking for at an exclusive club that caters to people indulging in their most hedonistic fantasies. She never imagined that what she’d find would be the one man who’s long been a source of comfort—and secret longing. Her husband’s best friend.
Dash has lived in an untenable position for years: in love with his best friend’s wife but unwilling to act on that attraction. He’d never betray his best friend. And so he’s waited in the wings, offering Joss unconditional support and comfort as she works past her grief, hoping for the day when he can offer her more.
When he finds her in a club devoted to the darker edges of desire, he’s furious because he thinks she has no idea what she’s getting herself into. Until she explains in detail what it is she wants. What she needs. As realization sets in, he is gripped by fierce, unwavering determination. If she wants dominance, he is the only man who will introduce her to that world. He is the only man who will touch her, cherish her…love her. And the only man she’ll ever submit to.

Loved it.
Boring couldn’t even finish it.
I normally do not take the time to write reviews, but this book compelled me to answer the E-mail requesting me to do just that! My honest opinion on this book is…. Save your money!! I have to honestly say I was not impressed with this book at all. I’ve read a few other books by this author and I can’t say that they come to mind easily either! I’ve read many books that far exceed the entertainment level of this book and most of them I purchased for 99 cents or found on a free book site. So paying much more for this book and finding it totally lacking, was a major disappointment!! I honestly had to force myself to finish this book to give it a fair chance. When I’m over 40% into the book and the same story line is being repeated continuously, I tend to lose interest. I must say it was one of those that finishing was met with the satisfaction of moving on to another book! Not looking forward to getting the following book in the series like I normally do. I unfortunately purchased the next book in the series. I’ve yet to read it and not sure if or when I will!
Audio. Meh. This is one of those books where it feels like Banks is phoning it in. She has some awesome, in-depth, wonderfully conceived, amazing world building books. This isn’t it.
I was super psyched about the premise too. Joss’s husband was Dash’s best friend. Carson died several years ago in a car accident and Joss is finally ready to move on. Her first step is to seek out a D/s sexual relationship which leads her to a club. Dash is there and when he sees her he jumps at the chance to finally be in her life on a level he never though possible. Yum!
Yes, it’s erotica. But the plot should still feel like a plot. Or the length should reflect the amount of book. Instead, what we have is a LOT of repetition to bloat what might have actually been a decent shorter novel or novella. The internal dialogue was exhausting. AND the sex scenes are bogged down with Joss & Dash having really situation-inappropriate convos or Banks giving us their every last thought. It’s not sexy and completely kills the mood for the reader. Joss has a thought. Then Joss tells Dash that thought. Then Joss thinks about how Dash probably thinks about her thoughts. It was literally COPY/PASTE throughout the book.
I’m all for an HEA. However, I don’t think that 4 days after you have a HUGE knock down, emotionally eviscerating argument leading to one of the people moving out is the perfect time to propose.
I wasn’t super impressed with Alix Dale here either. However, I’ve heard her in other books and liked her style ~ so I’m inclined to think that the material she was working with held the bulk of the responsibility. How interesting can you make the exact same sentence over and over again sound?
This is the only one of the series the library had on audio. I’m not sure I’m willing to devote time to reading the others. But maybe… because I’m a sucker for hoping some quality MB shows up.
Josslyn and Dash were two peas to its pods. The way Maya Banks told their story was amazing and beautiful. I liked the way the story of Josslyn and Dash touched my heart. I am sure readers like me who are new to Maya Banks will enjoy their story. It was definitely worth 5 *****
I read this book a while ago but I have never forgotten it. It was my favorite of the Surrender series. I definitely recommend!
I love this series of 3 books, they are all great but this is my favourite.
After her husband died Joss has depended on her friends for support, but at the 3 year mark she decides to start living again. Surprisingly love is very close.
* Excellent storyline that builds up and have some hiccups on the way, but it never gets irritating just a bump in the road.
* The author is a wizard at making the feelings shine through in her stories so I’m always very emotional when reading her stories.
* All characters is coming alive in the way the author described them
* No unnecessary descriptions of surroundings
* Dialogues is filled with emotions and there’s lots of them. This is one of the books I have a lot of quotes and highlights from.
* The love scenes is but also very sweet.
This is a kinky book with a lot of sweetness.
5 stars for Joss and Dash.

Maya Banks stories are always a great read.
A little repetitive but a good story. Enjoyed it and looking forward to the rest of the stories.
Much too angst-ridden for a Maya Banks story.
