When Phoebe starts receiving anonymous letters, she never once thinks the most irresponsible man in London is her correspondent. Or that she will fall in love with him.
Phoebe Kimball grew up believing in love, but after failing to find a gentleman capable of capturing her heart, she has turned more practical than romantic. She is determined to find a husband in London this Season. If only the … in London this Season. If only the annoying Mr. Fenwick would stop appearing every time she sets her cap at someone! When an anonymous letter arrives warning her that her current target is unsuitable marital material, Phoebe begins a relationship with the letter writer that promises something more than a practical alliance.
Griffin Fenwick does not usually care for women on the hunt for a husband, but Miss Kimball’s quick wit and refusal to admit she enjoys his company intrigues him. When he realizes the gentlemen on her list of eligible bachelors is full with scoundrels, he warns her the only way he can – through a letter. As he comes to know Phoebe better, he soon realizes he wishes to put his own name on her list. If only she liked Griffin as much as she liked her anonymous correspondent.
When Phoebe realizes its been Griffin writing her all along, will she put aside practicality for love, or spurn Griffin for even trying to woo her?
Letters for Phoebe is the first in a series of books about five friends. The next four novellas will be written by authors Joanna Barker, Megan Walker, Heidi Kimball, and Arlem Hawks.

Letters for Phoebe is a delightful regency romance novella. It sets up the storyline for the Promise of Forever After series, but tells a wonderful story all of its own. I enjoyed the witty repartee between Phoebe and Griffin. I certainly hope we see more of Griffin’s parents. They seem to have a wonderful love story of their own to tell.
The premise of the letters was very nicely done in revealing the inner thoughts of the main characters, while they presented a different demeanor to society, The pacing of the book was smooth and just quick enough to keep my interest. I loved the richly described settings in the story. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.
I received a review copy of this book. The review is my honest, unbiased opinion.
This is a sweet, clean novella. Some elements of the story reminded me of a Regency version of You’ve Got Mail.
I liked the characters. Griffin is fun loving but through his association with Phoebe shows himself and others he can move along with more serious things in life. And Phoebe is overly proper and rather stiff at the beginning but she becomes more fun loving from being around Griffin so they balance each other out. The character I most related to was Griffin’s mother. Mostly because she laments that she doesn’t have grandchildren and I can relate to that.
The plot could have been turned into a full length novel I think but I liked it as a novella. The pace was good and didn’t get bogged down. It was a good evening read.
The set up for the series is cute and I look forward to reading the rest of the novellas.
No sex, language or violence
*I received a complimentary ARC of this novella and voluntarily chose to review it.
He’s got the inside track.
Phoebe makes a pact with her girlfriends to marry for true love. That’s put to the test when four years later, she keeps picking the wrong sort of men.
Griffin, an unrepentant jokester has the inside track of the men of the ton and begins to anonymously write to PK warnings of her not so gentlemenly callers.
In person, he thinks she’s haughty, she thinks he’s a clown but on paper, they are warm and friendly.
I enjoyed this unique approach and felt both characters were engaging and complex. Oh, and I’m addition to the pact, they pass along a red bracelet.
For a quick read, there’s nice layers and complexity.
Recommend.
A fun, quick read! It relaxed me and made for a great Saturday.
Cute story. Fun characters.
Enchanting! A historical with a hint of ‘You Got Mail’
Letters for Phoebe by Sally Britton is a sweet, romantic, and heartwarming epistolary historical romance.
It is book #1 in the Promise of Forever After series but can be read as a standalone.
I have to say I loved everything about this book.
Phoebe was a practical girl whose hopes for a love match were dashed by an unscrupulous fortune hunter.
In her third London season, she decided to be sensible and choose a husband with her head rather than her heart.
She did not have any unreasonable requirements. She just wanted a man who could treat her as a partner and who would love her for who she was.
Griffin was one of the loveliest heroes I came along in quite some time. He was funny, loving, and so adorable.
He inadvertently introduces Phoebe to a gambler and feels responsible when he finds out she is romantically interested in said gentleman. He then tries to warn her by writing an anonymous note.
The story is everything I expect in a romance: the slow-burn connection, the witty dialogues, the butterflies in the stomach, and the added treat of a lovely note exchange.
I love the duality of practical and sensible Phoebe and spontaneous and adventurous Griffin. They are clearly a match made in heaven.
The side characters were also lovely. I enjoyed learning about Phoebe’s school friends and their ‘luck bracelet’. I’m looking forward to reading the other books in the series, especially Marah and Lavinia’s stories.
I already owned the e-book, so I read and listened to the audiobook at the same time.
I’m a fan of Jessica Elisa Boyt’s work, and she did a great job once again. I love how clear her pronunciation is. Her tone is very calm and lovely, and there is a clear differentiation between the characters.
It is a relatively short audio (3 hours), which I find very convenient. Despite not being long, the story is very well developed.
Letters for Phoebe is enchanting! One of my favorite reads of the year.
Highly recommended for everyone who loves sweet romances and epistolary stories.

This is the first Sally Britton book I’ve read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Written in an epistolary style, the writing drew me in from the first, completely captivating me! I highly recommend this super cute Regency.
Letters for Phoebe
Sally Britton
Phoebe Kimball was a sweet girl. She and her other four friends met at an all girl’s school. But they started passing around a bracelet that seemed to bring them luck. When it came time to choose a husband it seemed to help.
Griffin Fenwick was someone who enjoyed humor. When he first met Phoebe he was in a duel of dough. He and his friend got covered in it. He was introduced to Phoebe by Caroline her sister in law. It was fun seeing Griffin try to still court her but be anonymous about it.
It was a nice tale. He still introduced her to other men but he was realizing he did not want to share.
It was a well thought out book with wonderful characters that kept the fun up. The whole thing was exciting, cute, and loving. I really loved it.
I received this ARC from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.
This book may not have all the editing errors worked out, but I give it a five-star review for how adorable it is. I look forward to how the other authors will finish out the series.
I love the way Britton writes. Her stories are always well done. I have had a slew of bad books lately where the leading lady is a brat, sadly this character starts as a bit of a snot. I was put off because of all the other dang books I have read that have been like this. So I wanted to give this 3 stars but I am going to bump it up to a 4 because I know if I had read this at any other time I would have loved it. The leading man and lady are opposites and have a hard time at first. The way they come together is so sweet and the end was very satisfying. I am excited to see what each story will bring. This is the first story in the series and tells of the girls involved in each book.
Beautifully written and narrated!!!
It is a charming story enhanced with rich detail and well-defined characters.
I’ve waited for each new letter together with the characters!
First book in new Forever After series! Letters for Phoebe by Sally Britton was sooo cute! The opening of the series is perfect and I love how each book has started with the same event but from each of their views! Not gonna lie I enjoyed Griffin more than Phoebe. He’s so fun-loving and enjoys life. He could be a little more serious a little now and then but he proves he is also caring and sensitive. Usually in shorter books depth of characters is lacking, but Sally does an incredible job at getting you to love the characters and rooting for them right away! Reading the letters back and forth was so fun and makes you long for the time when letter writing was beautiful and an art form.
I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!!!
I will likely reread this novella several times because I found it so enjoyable. The quickness didn’t make the storyline any less believable, and there was just a quiet satisfaction that sang in my soul for a few days after. It was well-done and one of the most believable stories centered around secret letter writing that I have ever read. This story is part of a series written by several authors about friends who make a vow only to marry for love just before they leave finishing school. However, life never works out as it seems. Watching Phoebe maneuver the social scene to find a suitable match while getting hints and help from a secret, an unidentified friend was fun. Griffin’s anonymous help turns out to be more than he bargained for. I really can’t say more without giving more of the plot away.
If you are looking for a quick, sweet read. This is your choice. I love the inclusion of the letters and the believable romance the develops along with its complications.

My thoughts about this book:
• I liked that Griffin had honor, kindness, and commitment. He was on a quest to save Phoebe from choosing a bad suitor.
• Phoebe and Griffin were very likeable characters that were thoroughly developed and fleshed out. The witty banter between these characters and the situations they found themselves in, made for an interesting plot.
• The writer’s words painted clear pictures that helped me to visualize the scenes and the emotions of the characters. I felt like I was a part of those scenes.
• The author’s writing style was concise vivid, and clear.
• The narrator did an amazing job of bringing this story to life.
• I really enjoyed this short novella. It was such a warm, sweet romance.
At my request, I was given a complimentary copy of this audiobook from the author. I purchased my own copy of the ebook. I have voluntarily left my review and my opinions were my own. I will be looking forward to reading/listening to more books by this author and narrator.
I love the creative approach Phoebe takes to finding a suitor! Griffin rises to the occasion and together, they delight readers. Phoebe is determined to find husband and Griffin is ready to assist in any way he can, so long as it ultimately leads her to him. They begin a clandestine writing routine that draws out both of their hearts and shows them they can hope for more than fulfilling mundane, societal expectations. I love how the story unfolds and how they come to find out the truth regarding one another and what this means for them going forward. A delightfully sweet regency romance. I received a complimentary copy from the author and all opinions are my own, freely given.
Letters for Phoebe by Sally Britton is such a beautiful story!! I loved how Miss Phoebe Kimball and Mr. Griffin Fenwick got to know each other better through their correspondence with each other, albeit one knew the other (better) in real life. Griffin was such a great, good-humored character that felt so refreshing, while at the same time it was so sweet getting to glimpse his more serious, caring side. And Miss Phoebe, she was so lucky to have a friend in him, to look out for her and advise her on her next decisions. I eagerly anticipated every interaction between these two, and definitely enjoyed reading how they slowly started to develop feelings for each other *le happy sigh*.
As for the narrator, I think she did an incredible work bringing to life all the characters and all their emotions. Personally, though, there was a moment in the story when it felt like Griffin’s mother’s voice changed too much for it to be believable that it was still the same person speaking. But notwithstanding that minor fact, I truly enjoyed listening to this book, since it fairly transported me to the setting right beside the characters 🙂
Overall, a great introduction to this new, multi-author series, perfect for fans of the authors as well as the Sweet Historical Romance genre. Can’t wait to follow the stories of the rest of the friends! ~ 5 stars
I let the title keep me from reading the book for quite awhile, which was incredibly stupid, because I have absolutely loved every one of Sally Britton’s books that I’ve ever read! And this one was no exception to that. Letters for Phoebe is an absolute delight to read. The letters are very short notes sprinkled lightly through the book that advance the plot. Griffin and Phoebe are very interesting and likable characters. I was definitely pulling for them as a couple. There’s a very sweet HEA. I strongly recommend Letters for Phoebe.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. I chose to write a review and tell you about this delightful romance.
Lovely, clean, sweet novella-length romance
Story: 5 stars
What is it about receiving a letter? Especially an anonymous letter from a “friend”?
Phoebe and her friends at finishing school make vows to only have marriages that are love matches with men who will respect their opinions, make them laugh and love them for who they are, not for their fortunes. A bracelet of red beads (for luck) will be passed around to whomever seems to need it at the time.
Phoebe is on her third, and last, season. She is trying to pursue a gentleman who has a fortune similar to her own in hopes of having a marriage where she is respected. (She has given up on the other “girlish fantasies”.) Her friends send her the bracelet and, although she doesn’t believe it is lucky, wears it as a reminder of friends she loves and their support.
Griffin is happy-go-lucky and loves to make people smile. He is childhood friends with Phoebe’s sister-in-law and meets them driving through Rotten Row. He doesn’t make the best impression since he has just had a “dough duel” with another man and is covered in dough!
Griffin introduces Phoebe to the gentleman she has in her sights, but feels guilty afterward because he knows what kind of man that gentleman truly is. He tries to write to Phoebe’s brother, but he and his wife are out, he needs to tell Phoebe of this man’s character before she pursues him…so, in desperation, he anonymously warns her in a note.
This was a fun escape and both Phoebe and Griffin are likable characters. Nothing too deep or introspective in this novella, but the romance was satisfying and clean!
Narration: 4.5 stars
I could listen to Ms. Boyd for hours and hours (come to think of it, I have!). She reads with just the right amount of speed, inflection, expression and feeling. Her male voices sound male and her British accent is lovely.
*poor, **ok, ***good, ***very good, *****something special
Sally has done it again! Such a fun sweet read!
Griffin is my kind of hero! I love how there’s a little You’ve Got Mail feeling in this story 😉 Be still my heart.
