When Phoebe starts receiving anonymous letters, she never once thinks the most irresponsible man in London is her correspondent. Or that she will fall in love with him.
Phoebe Kimball grew up believing in love, but after failing to find a gentleman capable of capturing her heart, she has turned more practical than romantic. She is determined to find a husband in London this Season. If only the … in London this Season. If only the annoying Mr. Fenwick would stop appearing every time she sets her cap at someone! When an anonymous letter arrives warning her that her current target is unsuitable marital material, Phoebe begins a relationship with the letter writer that promises something more than a practical alliance.
Griffin Fenwick does not usually care for women on the hunt for a husband, but Miss Kimball’s quick wit and refusal to admit she enjoys his company intrigues him. When he realizes the gentlemen on her list of eligible bachelors is full with scoundrels, he warns her the only way he can – through a letter. As he comes to know Phoebe better, he soon realizes he wishes to put his own name on her list. If only she liked Griffin as much as she liked her anonymous correspondent.
When Phoebe realizes its been Griffin writing her all along, will she put aside practicality for love, or spurn Griffin for even trying to woo her?
Letters for Phoebe is the first in a series of books about five friends. The next four novellas will be written by authors Joanna Barker, Megan Walker, Heidi Kimball, and Arlem Hawks.

Novelas are not usually my favorite, but I loved Letters for Phoebe. This is a beginning of a series of 5 friends. Having gone to school together and becoming as close as sisters, they made a bond to marry for love. This is Phoebe‘s story. I thought she was a little stiff in the beginning, but the more I got into the story, the more it fit her personality and I enjoyed her dry wit and intelligence. Griffin was to die for. I loved his foolish ways, he was lighthearted and fun to be around. But always a perfect gentleman. The story moved at a good pace and I didn’t feel it was too rushed in the end. I highly recommend this clean sweet regency romance.
This was a fun Regency novella that reminded me of “You’ve Got Mail.” I really liked the characters; Britton writes such great characters! Griffin was a lot of fun and I was glad to see his serious side at times too. I also really liked the idea of this series and that we will get to see all the stories of each of the friends from the beginning of this novella. I am excited for the rest of the books in this series! Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys regency romances and also anyone who enjoyed the movie “You’ve Got Mail”
I have enjoyed every book written by Sally Britton but this one may just be my new favorite! The storyline is absolutely delightful and Griffin and Phoebe were witty and their conversations (and letters!) were endearing. Somehow Sally writes characters that are so engaging you wish they were real!
Even though it is a novella , the plot is well paced (not rushed as so often happens in novellas) and was the perfect length to tell their story. I enjoyed every moment of this book and as soon as I finished, wanted to pick it back up and start all over.
A delightful, sweet romance that was an absolute joy to read! Looking forward to the rest of the Forever After multi-author series.
I received a complimentary copy from the author but my opinion is my own.
Another sweet and fun novella from author Sally Britton, Letters for Phoebe was a joy to read and I may have swooned for Griffin more than once. With a bit of a You’ve Got Mail vibe at times, the plot of this novella was just so engaging. I loved the letters and was so excited each time one was included in the chapters. The characters felt real and were definitely likable. I am looking forward to reading the other four books in this multi author series. Definitely a book I will recommend.
This is the first book in the Promises for Ever After Series. I really enjoyed this book. I loved how it was a Regency version of You’ve Got Mail! I thought that was really sweet. I loved Griffins’ personality and how he helped Phoebe to relax and let her true personality shine. I love how the romance was gradual and that it developed while doing something that could cause a scandal like writing letters to each other. I thought this book was great and I’m looking forward to the other books in this series.
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.
A well written plot, following one of my favorite tropes, witty characters in interesting situations, all wrapped in a sweet and clean romance…. perfect!
I like clean regency stories, this author being one of my five favorite writers of this era, and I loved “Letters For Phoebe”. It had a flavor of the Jane Austen story of Lady Susan which I very much enjoyed.
The characters are well drawn and the story has a smooth flow with clean language and no bedroom scenes. I have all Ms Sally’s books and they all deserve 5 star reviews in this reader’s opinion.
I have yet to be disappointed by one of Sally Britton’s books. I loved the premise of this book and I am looking forward to reading the rest of the stories in the series. Some novellas seem to lack detail or emotion but that is not the case here. I would definitely recommend this one for a quick enjoyable read!
