This latest romantic legal thriller by bestseller Cara Putman shines a light on the shadowy world of scientific secrets and corporate vendettas—and the ethical dilemmas that plague the place where science and commerce meet.
“I loved Cara Putman’s Lethal Intent and rooted for her heroine Caroline Bragg through every twist and turn. This legal thriller perfectly captures what it’s like to grow from law clerk to lawyer, and when Caroline finds herself faced with a heartbreaking ethical dilemma that leads to the corporate battle of her life, she confronts the challenge with strength and resources she never knew she had. Putman seamlessly blends the story with a wonderfully inspiring romance, too. Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of Lethal Intent!” –Lisa Scottoline, New York Times bestelling author of 30 novels, including her upcoming, After Anna.
“Intriguing characters. Romantic tension. Edge-of-your-seat suspense. And a fast-paced ending that will leave you exhausted (in a good way!).” —Robert Whitlow, award-winning author of Promised Land

I had trouble getting into this book. It seemed to have a slow start. Once I got into it, it was better. For this reason I’m giving it 3 starts instead of 4. I was expecting more suspense than there was in the book. Not a bad book but not one I would go out of my way to re-read.
I was given this book by Thomas Nelson Publishing via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.
Putman’s latest thriller focuses on drugs, drug companies, and the corporate race to get them to market even if all the rules and regulations haven’t been met. Caroline Bragg is a lawyer who has begun working for a drug company to make sure they have met all the regulations in order to get their latest drug for juvenile leukemia on the market. But when Caroline realizes they are fast tracking it in order to get it on the market and playing with the rules, she begins to worry.
The characters in this story were so compelling. Caroline had every right to be concerned about the end run around rules that the drug company was taking. Her boyfriend Brandon was also concerned because one of the youngsters at his group foster home was fighting leukemia. The situations they both faced were so realistic and timely. Putman also depicted the role greed and misdeeds can play as drug companies try to out do one another. Scientific secrets and corporate espionage play a crucial role in today’s society, and Putman gives her readers an excellent look at how it can all come about. Excellent suspense with riveting characters and numerous twists and turns.

This was a totally different ride I took with this novel. It contained not only legal content but also cutting edge science. I admit I didn’t understand the cell concept and what this company was doing to help leukemia patients but it kept me glued to the pages. What a great movie this would make! The descriptions were written so well that I pictured myself there with the characters. Brandon was a former professional football player and Caroline was a lawyer. They both suffered from bad childhood experiences which gave them that in common and so much more. Caroline had just been hired to work with a company in the throes of a discovery that could change the lives of so many for the better. Brandon had established a group home setting that worked to keep brothers and sisters together in the foster care system. He had been separated from his brother growing up and still didn’t know where he was or what had happened to him. His passion was real and his heart was for the kids in his care. They were both interested in moving their relationship along but their work kept them apart so much of the time. There was something not right at the company Caroline had been hired into but she couldn’t put her finger right on it. She couldn’t share with Brandon because he was a investor.
Getting to the bottom of it all was exciting and kept me interested the whole way through. My heart went out to the characters and I enjoyed getting to know them. Grab a cup of coffee or tea, find a relaxing chair to sit in and get ready for a great story in this novel.

This exciting legal drama offers an intense, clean read. Caroline Bragg has just taken a job as an attorney with a medical research company. As she learns the ropes, her misgivings grow, and the longer she works there, the more issues come to light. In addition, suspicion arises as more people associated with their premium research die unexpectedly. Caroline’s boyfriend, former NFL star Brandon Lancaster, runs a foster home for needy kids, one of whom has cancer and is involved in the test treatment from Caroline’s company, muddying the waters even more. The masterful plot keeps readers glued to the book’s pages with all its twists and surprises until they can finally breathe a sigh of relief at the end and long for another installment from this gifted author.
