When she left him… to leave.
No goodbye.
For Shepherd, losing Tara broke his heart. Not knowing why she left, well that pain he addressed with drugs, alcohol, and meaningless relationships. After he hit rock bottom, he cleaned up and came up with a plan to get her back. Could it work?
It was his only shot.
Would a desperate ruse, with the best intentions, but costing a fortune, give him the chance to win her heart for good? Or would it ruin him?
Will she be brave enough to be loved?
You’ll adore this second chance romance because true love is worth the gamble. It will keep you turning the pages until the end.
Get it now.
This is a stand alone romance with medium heat

I have recently been introduced to Ms. Terelst’s books, and I have to say they are such a delight to read. This book is set in Australia, so if you’ve never been this is the perfect opportunity to visit because this book will take you straight there -and no passport needed! Wonderfully written vivid descriptions with attention to detail will make you feel as if you are experiencing everything yourself. This was a wonderful story so full of emotions from hurt and anger to guilt and love, I couldn’t put it down. Tara and Shepherd certainly had a connection but there was a lot for them to work through before getting their happy ending. This was a beautifully written story that had such depth and feeling and I really enjoyed it. I look forward to reading more by this author.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was my first book from this author and I was definitely pleasantly surprised. This novel is a solid romance that is filled with emotions and that draws you in with every page that you read.

This was an interesting story of overcoming death and guilt. It was also a story of doing anything for love, including making up a fake millionaire scavenger hunt. It was interesting to see what ruse Shepherd had concocted to win Tara, the love of his life from grad school, back. I enjoyed their finding each other and dealing with why Tara left him five years ago. They were good for each other. I definitely enjoyed how the story ended. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
I’ve just finished reading this and wow. This was my first read by this author and it didn’t disappoint. I really enjoyed it a lot. I haven’t read a story set in Australia before which was something new and made the book really enjoyable for me. I am a sucker for a unique (to me) location. The scavenger hunt locations where also great to read about. Excuse my ignorance but I do hope the Australian history was not true because if it was some shady stuff went down in the past. Very interesting to read about though.
I adored the unique twist to the romance. Shepherd and Tara already had a history and the lengths Shepherd went to win her back, ugh. A freaking scavenger hunt in Australia. The prize money! I need a Shepherd in my life. And the steam! *Swoons* the photobooth and elevator scene! Such a tease.
The story is short for those who love a shorter book but it is so well written that it didn’t feel rushed in the slightest. I prefer a meaty book as you know but this flowed so well very easy to read.
I was sent this early by the author for an honest review
This book was spectacular. I really liked how it was written. The scavanger hunt was origional and fun to learn about the different places.
I voluntarily gave an honest review in exchange for a copy of this book.
All the emotions! All the love!
Five years ago, Tara‘s life changed when her brother died and she left everything behind, including her relationship with Shepherd. She gave no reason, just walked away, and Shepherd’s soul left with her. Now he is determined to win her back by any means, even with a bogus scavenger hunt contest that Tara cannot possibly resist since the grand prize is six million dollars.
On paper, Tara and Shepherd made a perfect couple. They were both good people who loved each other and wanted to help the world. How could their life together become so skewed? This story had everything – love, hurt, anger, steam, deceit, and a dog – wow!
I may be biased, but I find it refreshing to read a romance set in Australia. The landmarks, the history, and the language jokes all rang true blue. Yet, there was a universal essence to this tale that would strike the heart strings of all romance readers: another chance at love for two imperfect people. Who does not love a good second chances story? I know I loved it.
Tara and Shepherd are both good, selfless people devoted to charity, but they have serious flaws that impact on their relationship. Shepherd’s plan to win Tara back is a classic example. Simply learning why Tara left and rekindling old flames is not enough. They both need to transform through journeys of personal growth to overcome their relationship hurdles.
If you are looking for a heart-warming tale of learning from your mistakes and winning at love, this is a book for you.
I loved this story! The scavenger hunt was such a clever and fun part of the story and a great way to do a second chance romance! The characters where well developed and relatable. Anyone looking for a sweet and fun contemporary romance should absolutely try this book out!
Tara and Shepherd find themselves teamed up on a Scavenger Hunt in Sydney. I learned a lot about Sydney and enjoyed following the clues with them. I even looked up online to see if I could figure out the clues too. Their attraction is palpable. This is an enjoyable read.
Tara left Shepherd without a word when she saw him high on drugs. While this is the catalyst for her leaving instead of Shepherd feeling bad about it or regretting his drug use, Tara takes the blame because she left without a word. Her life’s calling and the work she wants to do honoring her brother Zak makes this a bit hard to swallow. Maybe in today’s world getting high is accepted (and if that’s true it’s a shame), but would Tara really let it go so easily? .This iis a good read, but I wish the drug issue hadn’t been glossed over since it was vital to the story.
I didn’t want to like Sheppard because he’s trying to trick his love into falling in love with him. And using something like money to tempt her seemed pretty low, especially when she was using it to make such a huge social difference. But he grew on me and by the end I was rooting for him. This ends up being a really sweet second chance romance with some realistic heart wrenching commentary on social issues.
You know…
I’m really torn on whether I liked this book or not.
All throughout the beginning, I felt sorry for Shepherd. He was in love with a woman who left him 5 years ago. No note, no explanation. Just here one day and gone the next.
Tara’s reasoning for leaving Shepherd just really aggravated me. She judges the actions of night and decides to leave the man she supposedly claims is the love of her life. She’s been with him for a year before all this stuff went down and I’m to assume he never did anything like he did that one night. Like Shepherd ends up telling Tara in the book, I feel like she didn’t really trust him their entire relationship. She never told him of her parents death, instead letting him believe she was calling them every Sunday at 3am. I’m to assume her brother had passed a couple years before she went to graduate school and same with his death, she never told him.
I think Shepherd sums up their first relationship perfectly when he tells Tara “If you had trusted me, you would have told me about your parents and Zac. If you did, I wouldn’t have broken some sacred promise I didn’t know existed.”
Now fast forward and they are partners for a scavenger hunt. Only the scavenger hunt was only meant to be as a ruse for Shepherd to finally get Tara back and convince her they’re meant to be.
Okay, now it may only be me, but I actually thought the idea of him making up a scavenger hunt like that was romantic. He knew she loved scavenger hunts and to make one up with all the prizes that have personal meaning to them is something somebody who was madly in love would think of.
I guess when it comes down to it, the reasoning for Tara leaving and the lack of trust really soured the book for me.
Be prepared for an emotional roller coaster with this second chance (perhaps third) romance. Sheperd doesn’t understand why Tara just left him. He’s been miserable without her and concocts a plan to win her back. Tara never stopped loving Sheperd and can’t believe it when they are teamed up for a scavenger hunt. What unfolds is an interesting, often times heart breaking love story. I couldn’t put this book down and immensely enjoyed the scavenger hunt through Australia. I recommend this fun, entertaining, at times steamy romance-it is a great escape
