When a handsome firefighter returns to his small home town, the last thing he expects to find is love… Lucas Russell lives for his job. Forced to take extended leave following an accident, he returns to his small home town to stay at the beach cottage his grandparents left him. The problem is, he’s not used to having so much time on his hands. After a broken engagement, Ember isn’t ready for … engagement, Ember isn’t ready for love right now. Though her heart might be mended, she prefers to keep herself busy with her family and work; that way she won’t get hurt again. But she didn’t count on meeting a handsome firefighter with a dimpled smile. After Lucas saves her from one awkward situation too many, she can’t stop thinking about him.
Ember finds Lucas impossible to resist, and he’s determined not to let her. As long summer days melt into sultry, passionate nights what begins as a fling develops into something much deeper. Until the day Ember’s ex-fiancé returns to town and threatens to destroy the fragile connection that’s building between them.
This stand-alone romance is low on angst and big on feels. If you enjoy a heartwarming read that’s sweet with heat, Let Me Burn is for you

I read this on holiday by the pool . It was a beautifully written book and I read it in a day because I couldn’t put this book down once I’d started it. You get involved in the story as it unfolds and it’s a feel good book.
Favorite Quotes:
“Hey, if life gives you lemons—” “Add a little tequila,”
“She’s beautiful and she’s funny but she’s fresh out of a relationship.” “How fresh?” “I’m not sure. A few months maybe.” “That’s not fresh… That’s rancid. She’s probably ready for another date.”
If he’d felt like the King of the World before, now he felt like he’d expanded his empire to include the rest of the galaxy… “I like you, Lucas Russell,” she whispered. “I like you a lot.” Forget the galaxy, he was king of the universe.
He’s gorgeous. And a natural with kids. I only have to look at him and my ovaries start to flutter.
My Review:
Lucas and Ember were the sweetest couple and easily fell into a fun, satisfying, considerate, sexy, and supportive relationship. Let Me Burn was a pleasant start to a promising new series and an enjoyable and welcome change from angsty stories with constant conflict and drama. The writing and storylines were engaging, well-paced, lively, easy to follow, and performed an excellent job of introducing the characters and establishing the foundation for subsequent installments. I am anxious to see who will be the focus of the next book as I am already curious about several of the characters.
Fantastic wonderful and heartwarming lovestory with low angst
I really loved this book and wow the romance between Ember and Lucas is just amazing and heartwarming and everything I hoped it would be:)!
This is the first story in the Angel Sands series and if you are looking for a sweet, funny, heartwarming book with a swoon worthy hero who is a firefighter and loves to surf and a beautiful, strong and determined heroine who is a teacher you will love this book.
They also have a very tight friend group and family bond which gets wrapped up in a lot of their own romances throughout the series. The series can be read in KU and I can definitely recommend it ( I have read and reviewed books 3-7)
4 stars
I purchased a copy of the novel Let Me Burn: A Small Town Firefighter Love Story (Angel Sands Book 1) by Carrie Elks and this review was given freely.
The interactions of good friends and a fair amount of tragedy can be found in the pages of this mildy steamy novel were a series of chance meetings between Lucas and first grade teacher Ember lead to a happy ending. When workaholic White City Fire Department’s 10 year veteran fireman Lieutenant Lucas Russell freezes on the job, Chief Simons places him on a two month enforced leave as a volunteer fireman in his small seaside hometown of Angel Sands, California where Lucas spends his time renovating the small cottage he and his sister inherited, surfing with his friends and questioning where he belongs.
I really enjoyed reading this book and this is the first in this series and I cant wait to start reading book #2. I love how this author written this story line and how it flowed perfectly, I loved reading it. Once I started it I couldn’t put it down and this small town romance is a great read.
This is Ember and Lucas’s story journey.
Ember is a teacher and a really good person, she loves her job and her small town and has great friends. Ember has been through a lot recently to especially with her ex and she is in need of a distraction and her friends try and help.
Lucas is a hot fire fighter and he first meets Ember on a call out at the school, because he is also volunteering at their fire department. His chief at White City tells him to take some leave from work after something happened on a call out and this is how he ends up at Angel Sands working on renovating the house his grandmother left to him. Once these two meet things will never be the same because the connection they have is beautiful.
I absolutely loved the characters that this author has written and as the reader I really connected with them and they were really relatable too. They connection they had the sizzle between them both was hot and I was rooting for them both. I loved all her friends to and wish I had great friends like these they were so real. This story was lovely, sweet, with little drama and I loved reading it. This author is awesome at helping the reader to visualize the place that is angel sands and the beach cafe too and I loved how she brought it to life it was awesome. This book is a nice romantic, small town romance of two people that weren’t expecting anything at the moment and I recommend that everyone goes on reads it. Awesome start to the Angel Sands Series.

Fireman sparks a flame for Ember!

Lovely, well-written small-town romance with two of the nicest and most caring people you’d want to meet. The town denizens provide a friendly, supportive backdrop for the romance. Both H and h have past relationship baggage to overcome and the slow and gentle pace of small-town life give them a great environment to heal and move on.
This novel was a clear standalone but I look forward to more in this new series about the residents of Angel Sands. I loved the Shakespeare Sisters season-themed romance series also by this author. She knows how to write a series with connected characters but without cliffhangers!
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
‘Let Me Burn’ is yet another great read. The main characters Ember and Lucas are interesting to get to know. They were two very relatable characters and I was rooting for them from the start. The romance between Ember and Lucas is just so sweet and I couldn’t get enough of them.
There were also some very interesting other characters in this book like Ember’s best friends, and Lucas’s friends and his sister. I can’t wait to find out if we get to read more about them in the other books in this series.
What I also really loved about this book was the setting in the small town. I just love small town stories. And Angel Sands definitely sounded like a fun small town, I’d love to read more about. There’s just something about these small towns that make me really enjoy reading about them.
The reason I give ‘Let Me Burn’ four stars instead of five is that I wished that there were a little less lose ends at the end of the book. I just still have a lot of questions at the end of this book and I really wished I got a view more answers. But overall this book was yet another great romantic read, and I can’t wait to read more books in this series.
He is hurt on the job and he has been forced to take some leave so he goes home. He is not used to so much time on his hands. She wants nothing to do with love since her ex ruined it all. They connect and it seems to be going well until her ex reappears. Will they ruin everything? See what will.happen

He needs a soft place to land. She’s happy to take the brunt of the fall. Carrie Elks has been a favorite of mine since I stumbled upon Summer’s Lease. Her stories are emotionally compelling, her characters are easy to relate to and her heart shines through with every page. Let Me Burn tugs at the heart. Ember and Lucas are two lost souls searching for a place to call home. The passion is real, the emotions are raw and the beauty runs deep.
I just fell in love with both Lucas and Ember’s characters. While both of them have issues they are dealing with, that doesn’t stop them from being attracted to each other, especially the more they run into each other. There were also a number of interesting secondary characters and I couldn’t help but laugh out loud at little Carter’s antics. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
I really enjoyed Lucas and Ember’s story. It’s a story about loss, forgiveness, acceptance and second chances. I liked seeing Lucas and Ember’s friendship blossom and grow into more. Both of them are dealing with their own struggles and neither one is really ready for a relationship but there’s definitely no denying their chemistry. Their road has some bumps here and there but ultimately they help each other heal. Finally being able to open themselves up to the possibility of love.
If you’re in the mood for a sweet small town romance I’d recommend giving Let Me Burn a try.

After reading Elks’ Shakespeare Sisters Series, I’ve become a fan of her flawless and highly developed romances. Let Me Burn is the first book in a new series featuring characters from a small coastal town in California. While I’ll miss the Shakespeare’s, the author has continued her trend of great characters, authentic back stories, and sweet romance. I did find that the story moved at a little bit slower pace through the first half, but then gained some traction with a moving story between the two leads. Overall, this was a lower angst story with a satisfying romance that kicks off what looks to be a fun new series.
Firefighter Lucas Russell has been mandated to take time off, ironically, because he’s burned out.
Ember is feeling fragile after her father passed away four months ago and he fiancé, is now her ex. She’s back in Angel Sands.
Lucas is just in Angel Sands for the summer. Both he and Ember are a little fragile after, well, life.
Will it just be a summer thing?

Love Lucas and Embers amazing broken beautiful love story
Ready for more
Reader that I am, there is almost no better feeling than starting a new series and knowing you have more books in the series to look forward to. I absolutely adore this sweet, small town, feel good romance and it left me feeling all the warm fuzzies! Once again Carrie Elks delivers a wonderful romance featuring small town living and all the nuances of growing up in one and living there after having left and going back.
Grade school teacher Ember Kennedy and firefighter Lucas Russell cross paths when Lucas returns to Angela Sands for a short leave. They both grew up in Angel Sands but age and distinct differences in their lifestyles, their circle of friends, meant that they never really knew each other. After Lucas rescues one of Embers’ students, they find themselves getting to know each other while they serve on a event committee. Driven by mutual attraction, they go from acquaintances to friends to something more in a relatively short amount of time.
I’m so pleased with Let Me Burn. Ember is such a likable character and I immediately had empathy for her. She’s experienced major loss and is doing her best to move through her grief. She’s surrounded by two wondering friends, Brooke and Ally, who encourage her to pursue something with Lucas, even if it’s just a for a short time.
“Ember…” Brooke sighed. “Don’t say it.” Ember shook her head, even though her friend’s gaze was firmly on the man and the boy walking out into the ocean. “He’s gorgeous. And a natural with kids. I only have to look at him and my ovaries start to flutter.”
Lucas has no intentions of staying in Angel Sands so their relationship has a bit of a time limit on it. Even so, they have undeniable chemistry that seals their bond. Lucas is wholly lovable; a hero, a hunk and very loyal. He finds himself fiercely protective of Ember. As she faces down her past, Lucas finds himself reconsidering his stance on relationships. It didn’t escape me that this firefighter is drawn to an a woman named Ember.
I read this in pretty much one sitting and I experienced every rage, every sadness and every smile that these shared. I highly recommend this book and I very much look forward to the next one in the series!
*I was gifted a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*
A fantastic read. That has you on the edge of your seat. Lucas lives for his job as a firefighter. Ember having just had an ending to her engagement. He saves her from some predicaments. They both went to the same grade schools. This is a fantastic read. You feel like you really get to know the characters. And feel like you get to know the characters. There are lots of twists and turns. This is definitely a home run. I definitely recommend this read.

Let Me Burn is the first book in the all new Angel Sands Series and follows the story of Ember and Lucas. Lucas loves his job, but when a recent accident shakes him up, he’s forced to take some time out and go on a much needed vacation. The problem is, Lucas isn’t used to the slower paced small town life…The last thing that Ember is looking for is a new relationship. After her failed engagement, Ember just wants to put the past behind her and focus on her friends and her job. All was going to plan until Ember met Lucas. She can’t get him out of her head. Soon Ember will find Lucas too hard to resist. Is Ember ready to put her heart on the line and take a chance on Lucas? There’s only one way to find out….
Let Me Burn is a quick and enjoyable read. I was pulled in to Ember and Lucas’ story right from the very beginning. I loved getting to know these two. They were both pretty down to earth and just had an ease about them. I found Ember very easy to relate to. Even though she’s not looking for love, she isn’t completely closed to the idea. She’s a great friend and loves her job. And then we have Lucas who is hard working, determined and super charming. I really enjoyed the slow burn and pull of Lucas and Ember’s relationship. They kept me glued to the pages and I found myself unable to put this book down.
Overall, I think that this series is off to a really great start. The characters are a lot of fun and I really enjoyed getting to know all of them. These are definitely people I could see myself hanging out with if they existed in real life. I loved the small town feel to this story. The romance was sweet. The story had some nice humor and l loved that even though there was some drama, it was light for the most part. At the end of the day, this was a really nice read to spend my day getting lost in and I look forward to seeing where this series will go next.
Who isn’t looking for love?
If your looking for a loving light summer read stop by!
Firefighter & Schoolteacher
Grew up in the same town but never connected when they were young. Very busy in their careers, meet when they aren’t looking but it’s exactly what they need.
It’s a stranger to lover’s story, but friends all the way.
A reading about friendship and love.
Enjoyable, characters very relatable in a warm place like Angel Sands.
Is it summer already?
I’ve not read anything by this author before. I met her at a book signing and afterwards I was very eager to read one of her books so I thought I’d give this a go.
Taking a break from his career as a fire fighter Luca finds himself in Angel Sands at his grandparents college.
Ember who although shy is strong and is trying to move on from her past.
Can two broken souls help each other find happiness? I was really rooting for these two characters. I loved them and wanted them to be happy together.
This is a really well written contemporary romance. I absolutely loved this story. I’m really hoping for more stories in Amber Sands. Can’t wait to read more from this author. I highly recommend this story. I loved it.
