When a handsome firefighter returns to his small home town, the last thing he expects to find is love… Lucas Russell lives for his job. Forced to take extended leave following an accident, he returns to his small home town to stay at the beach cottage his grandparents left him. The problem is, he’s not used to having so much time on his hands. After a broken engagement, Ember isn’t ready for … engagement, Ember isn’t ready for love right now. Though her heart might be mended, she prefers to keep herself busy with her family and work; that way she won’t get hurt again. But she didn’t count on meeting a handsome firefighter with a dimpled smile. After Lucas saves her from one awkward situation too many, she can’t stop thinking about him.
Ember finds Lucas impossible to resist, and he’s determined not to let her. As long summer days melt into sultry, passionate nights what begins as a fling develops into something much deeper. Until the day Ember’s ex-fiancé returns to town and threatens to destroy the fragile connection that’s building between them.
This stand-alone romance is low on angst and big on feels. If you enjoy a heartwarming read that’s sweet with heat, Let Me Burn is for you

Angel Sands sounds like the most idyllic place in all the world to live, and this is where we meet Ember, a school teacher that has suffered so much heartache and loss in a few short months. Insert Lucas one hot Firefighter who has his own obstacles to overcome. Lucas is ordered to take two months leave and decides to return to Angel Sands to fix up the house his grandmother left him. As they occasionally cross paths they start the beginning of a friendship that quickly turns into a slow burn romance that neither of them wanted or can stop from happening between them.
This is a really sweet small town kind of romance that has many characters in the background that only add to the story, like Ember and Lucas’s friends that i’m sure will be a feature in future books of this series and Lucas’s mother and the many locals that run the stores by the beach.
I have read a few books by Carrie Elks and have always loved how engaging her writing is and her ability to tell a story is just so good, but as much as I’ve enjoyed Let Me Burn as it’s still a great story I wanted to feel a little bit more of the fire i’ve come to expect from her characters. I wanted to feel all the drama and the romance to be more of an inferno rather than just a spark and it just didn’t quite hit that mark for me this time. Don’t get me wrong if you love a well written sweet romance set in a small town then this is the book for you.
I really enjoyed this story. I liked both Lucas and Ember as well as their friends and family. I liked how the relationship between them grew slowly and with friendship as a base.
4,5 stars
I received an ARC of this book and this is my voluntarily, honest review of it.
If you’re looking for a sweet, light summer read than ‘Let me burn’ is just the book for you.
‘Let me burn’ takes place in a small beach town called Angel Sands in America. A town where both Ember and Lucas were born and grew up in. But where Lucas left their little town to be a firefighter in a big city, Ember stayed in Angel Sands and became a schoolteacher. Both may have gone to the same high school when they were younger but they never connected with each other. But now years later, that all changes when Lucas comes back to Angel Sands for a long holiday. Both aren’t looking for love or a relationship but life can be unpredictable and sometimes you will find love when you least expect it. But can love be enough to overcome distance and hurt from Ember’s past?
One of the things that I loved in this story was the slow pace in which Ember and Lucas’s relationship developed. They went from strangers to friends to lovers and I loved every minute of it. Lucas is really the guy that every woman dreams of. He’s a hardworking man with a good heart, intelligent, respectful and there when you need him (and he also has a great body!). I was so happy that Ember met him, because he was just the guy that she needed even if she didn’t know it. Ember was also a great character, she’s an intelligent, strong woman with a big heart. Lucas and Ember were just perfect for each other. And then you have the second characters, Lucas and Ember’s best friends, they were also very likeable characters and great friends. I really hope that they get their own story too. I would love that very much.
‘Let me burn’ is a light, easy to read romance book about loss, friendship and love. It’s perfect to read in the summer during your holiday or in the winter time when you want to dream about warm places.

This book is a light, easy romance about loss, friendship and love.
A great read with a happy ever after.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
his is a lovely, tender story about love found, love lost and some misunderstandings. Throw in a little humour, some great characters and you have the perfect story. As with all Carrie Elks books this is very well written, the words flow and it certainly quickly engaged me.
I really loved reading this one and getting to know the characters. Lucas is a firefighter who is on enforced leave, he is a diligent man who takes his job seriously and finds it hard to switch off. I loved the way he cared so much about everything, how empathetic he was with people. Ember is the school teacher who loves her job and her small town, she is dealing with a lot of loss. She is a lovely character, kind and very sweet, not looking for love, but Lucas is hard to resist.
I did enjoy this story, it is sweet, tender and very readable. I found it a little predictable, hence the four stars, but that didn’t detract from the story at all. I will certainly be reading the other stories in the series when they come out.
