This was a delightful Christmas read that takes place on Nantucket Island. It was full of friendship, Christmas spirit, romance and an adorable child named Wink. It perfectly fits the bill to be would make a Hallmark movie. Nancy Thayer did a wonderful job weaving this story.
What a great little holiday story! It starts with a shop owner on Nantucket Island who catches a young shoplifter in her toy shop. That spirals into a more complicated plot, while focusing on the holiday theme, the atmosphere of wintery Nantucket, wonderful characters and relationships. Is it heartwarming? Absolutely! Is it predictable? Sure! Is it enchanting, of course! Snuggle up with a steaming mug of hot cocoa and “Let it Snow!”
LET IT SNOW by Nancy Thayer was the first book of hers I’ve read and I loved it from the very first line. Her writing is simple and heartwarming. The perfect Christmas read.
The story opens on Nantucket Island in December and the storekeeper, Christina Antonioni meets up with a nine-year-old girl, Wink Bittlesman, who is shoplifting in her store. Instead of reporting it, she has Wink work in her shop to earn what she stole. Turns out Wink is the daughter of one of the wealthiest women in town.
When Christina meets Wink’s uncle Andy Bittlesman, she feels an immediate attraction to him, but there’s a hitch to their budding romance. Andy’s father, Oscar, is Christina’s landlord and he’s raised the rent so high that Christina and the other shop owners will go out of business.
Mimi, Jacob and Harriet, the other shop owners, along with a cast of islanders (native to Nantucket) give the reader a real feel for living on Nantucket Island.
As much as I enjoyed the book, I didn’t feel like Oscar had any redeeming qualities, but I loved the book anyway and it has a sweet, perfect ending for a Christmas romance.
Review I have read most Nancy Thayer library and adored them all. This one is fits right in there, but though a very nice read, not as compelling as some of the others. It is a sweet story of a group of locals whose livelihoods are potentially in danger by an uptight business mogul with the personality of rough sandpaper and who only cares about money and getting everyone in his sphere to bend to his wants and desires whether they want to or not. Money is what is most important to him and he constantly puts it ahead of everyone else including his own family. Cristina is a lovely woman who has lost everyone that she loves and is just trying to get through life further unscathed. All she has left is is her family home, the wonderful toy store she runs on the island and some truly wonderful eclectic friends she has collected and spends her days trying to bring joy bring joy to all who come to her store. She has compassion for all. Enter some new characters, a potential love interest, an adorable little girl named Wink who is going through some emotional upheaval herself, Winks mom who is so angry at the ending of her marriage that she takes her anger and hostility out on those trying to help. Through some us and downs all eventually works out in the end with a lovely HEA for some very nice people. This book is a perfect light lovely read.
I received an advanced readers copy of this book from NetGalley.com in exchange for an honest review.
I’ll be honest. I had a hard time getting into this book at the beginning. I was probably a quarter of the way through it before I got really interested in the story.
The setting did intrigue me. Christina owned a little, tiny shop in a shack on the wharf in Nantucket. Being from the Mid-West, that is totally foreign to me. When Christina meets Andy because his niece is stealing a toy in her shop, it’s your basic girl meets billionaire. I’m not a huge fan of super rich characters, but Andy certainly had redeeming characteristics. He really wants to live in the little, tiny town and wants to do good for the community.
My favorite part of the story was Christina’s friends working the other little shops. They were fun and interesting. This isn’t a deep story, but it’s a great light Christmas story.
I received a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley. All thoughts are my own.
I loved this book. It gave me all the feels. Now Christmas is 2 months away but after reading this book I wish it was now. Oscar reminds me of Scrooge. Christina has such a big heart. Andy is perfect for her but it takes some convincing on his part to get her to see that. The descriptions on what Nantucket look like at Christmas makes me want to go visit during that time and not just during the summer. Love is in the air during this season as a few people find their ones.

A sweet, enchanting holiday read that could be a Hallmark movie.
Christina and three of her friends are known as “shedders” and run shops on the wharf in Nantucket. Unlike other store owners, the shedders have their shops in sheds that are part of Nantucket’s history. So much of their income comes from the weeks leading up to Christmas. So when their landlord sends them a letter indicating that he plans to raise their rent by 10%, Christina is appointed to appeal to the landlord. Through a series of unexpected happenings, she also becomes involved with the rest of his family. Christmas magic abounds in this heartwarming book. Thank you Netgalley and Random House Ballentine Books for an Advanced Reader Copy. I voluntarily read this book and the review and comments are my honest opinion.
This was a heartwarming love story that takes place on Nantucket. Christina Antonioni has a toy shop in a shed on the wharf. There are three other shed shops on the wharf and the owners are all friends. They rent their shops from a largely absent landlord. The sheds were originally used by local fishermen when they brought in their catch so they are basic shells with few amenities. When Oscar Bittlesman, their landlord, decides to raise their rent, it is devestating news because they all just barely get by in winter when their are few tourists and fear they will have to close their shops. Then Christina meets Wink, Oscar’s granddaughter, and his son Andy with whom she has an immediate attraction. Can the Christmas season bring a change of heart to this scrooge and a happily ever after for Christina?
Very sweet story that takes place in Nantucket at Christmas. Christina is a native of the island and owns a small toy store on the pier, one of several “shed shops.” She loves her store and usually looks forward to Christmas and its holiday cheer and busyness. It’s a little harder this year as she has lost her parents and her grandmother, leaving her alone for the holidays. Fortunately, she has her shop and good friends to ease the pain. One day, as she is unpacking merchandise, she catches a young girl shoplifting a small sticker book. Rather than turn her in, Christina offers nine-year-old Wink a job, giving the bored and lonely girl something fun to focus on.
I liked the quick bonding between Wink and Christina. Both were dealing with a tough holiday season, between Christina’s losses and Wink’s upset over her parents’ upcoming divorce. It was fun to see Wink blossom under Christina’s encouragement, as she went from sulky and bitter to outgoing and helpful. There were some terrific scenes of their time in the shop together.
A side effect of her friendship with Wink was getting to know Wink’s bachelor Uncle Andy. Christina and Andy were drawn together from the moment they met. She was reluctant to get involved with him at first, as he was the son of local billionaire and landlord Oscar Bittlesman. But Andy was sweetly persistent and was soon spending as much time as he could with Christina. I liked Andy a lot. He’s a nice man who hasn’t inherited his father’s ruthless streak. He’s more interested in using his time and money on things that benefit the area.
I enjoyed the development of the relationship between Andy and Christina. They spend time together, with and without Wink, getting to know each other. I liked seeing the little things that he did for her to make her happy or her life a little easier. Christina gives Andy moral support as he works to convince his father to let him leave the family business in New York and move to Nantucket. It’s easy to see the feelings growing between them. Things become complicated when the “Shedders” all receive notice from Oscar that he will raise their rents by ten percent after the first of the year. This is a blow to all of them, as their profit margins aren’t all that high to begin with. Christina is faced with a dilemma – does she allow Andy to help her with his father, or does she rely on her business sense and intelligence to fight this battle? Decision made, she had to walk a fine line between her struggle with Oscar and her growing feelings for Andy. I loved that Andy respected her wishes and gave her support without taking over. I liked the way things worked out at the end, with everyone remaining true to themselves.
I enjoyed Christina’s fellow merchants. They had an excellent friendship and support system going. Mimi was terrific with the way she watched over them all and kept them on track when they needed it. Jacob was the geeky guy with the kite and other sciency stuff. Sometimes he seemed like the awkward little brother, and other times he was far ahead of the others. Harriet grated on me through most of the book. She was catty and snobby and came across as a gold-digger. I hated her snide comments. She had a few redeeming moments, such as when she helped Christina at the hospital, but mostly she was a pill. When they all found out about the rise in rent, they looked to Christina to take advantage of her relationships with Wink and Andy to fix the problem, which bugged me. I was happy when they realized that wasn’t fair to her, and enjoyed the idea they came up with to try to change his mind. The results were not what they expected.
There were a couple of things that disappointed me about the book. One was the lack of heat between Andy and Christina. Their romance was sweet, and I had no doubt about their feelings, but I never felt any sparks between them. The other problem I had was that there wasn’t anything told from Andy’s point of view. There were places that I would have liked to know what he was feeling or thinking. This would have given a little more depth to his character. This was my first book by Nancy Thayer, so this may be her style.
a sweet christmas read.
What do A Christmas Carol and Let it Snow have in common? Cold weather, a precocious child and Scrooge! If you like to read books about a curmudgeonly old man being softened up then this is the book for you.
Let it Snow could easily be read in a weekend but I made this my guilty pleasure after long days of teaching so I took a bit longer. Every night as I closed the book I found myself smiling. The precocious little girl, Wink, is a delight. We all need a Wink in our life at one point. Viewing life through her eyes is a blessing.
There are allusions to adult relations but nothing in detail so I consider a clean read. No foul language except for maybe a “hell” or two so again a clean read. A Christmas book for the collection.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher, Random House Publishing Group, through NetGalley. Any and all opinions expressed in the above review are entirely my own.
LET IT SNOW by Nancy Thayer is an enjoyable holiday novel that is quick reading and entertaining. Christina Antonioni owns a toy store in Nantucket who, along with her other small business store associates, are at their busiest during the holiday season when their nasty and Scrooge-like landlord, Oscar Bittlesman, decides to raise their rent. But it’s Oscar’s nine-year-old granddaughter, Wink, who catches Christina’s heart when she visits and “works” in her shop. However, she’s not the only one who captures it. It’s her Uncle Andy, Oscar’s son. Will she be able to keep her business while a romance is budding? How can she as Andy is related to Scrooge? Christina finds out just how strong a woman she can be that gives her everything she wants during the magical holiday season.
I must thank Goodreads and Random House Publishing Group for winning a copy of LET IT SNOW. I am deeply grateful and honored. The comments above are purely my own, and this is my honest review. Thank you for the opportunity.

Let It Snow by Nancy Thayer is a warm Christmas story with a Scrooge-like character causing issues for the “shedders” – the shopkeepers who have shops in sheds.
This author is talented at providing readers interesting characters that are 3 dimensional and relatable. Like most Christmas stories this one is filled with the spirit of the holidays and makes for a quick read.
Nantucket is always a setting I enjoy reading about, especially at the holidays. If you like Hallmark Christmas movies, heartwarming stories and Christmas books in general, this is the book for you.
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for an ARC at my request. All thoughts are my own.
Highly entertaining, heartwarming, emotional and engaging journey filled with exciting charters, heart string pulling twists and an enchanting holiday adventure…… was a great read from beginning to end. Excellent reading!
I totally love this book! It pretty much makes you feel every one of your emotions and that’s awesome for a book. Nancy has never ever let me down in all the books that I have read of hers. If you have never read her books you really need to start. Thanks for the great book Nancy!
A fun and uplifting Christmas story.
Christina is a strong, independent woman who is very lonely. It is the first Christmas without her parents. Their deaths weigh on her particularly at this time of year. She decides not to do anything for Christmas but that changes when she meets nine-year-old, Wink, her mother, and her uncle, Andy. As Christina grows closer to Wink and Andy, she is conflicted when Andy’s crusty father raises the rent on Christina’s toy shop.
Read to find out whether Christina and her friends at the wharf lose their shops. The relationship with Andy could (or not) be doomed over the rent hike.
This is typical of Nancy Thayer’s books – fun, easy to read, entertaining, and romantic. It puts you in the holiday spirit, even if you are determined to be a Scrooge.
One of the best Christmas romances this year!
I received an ARC from Random House (Ballantine) through NetGalley. This in no way affects my opinion or rating. I am voluntarily submitting this review.
I enjoyed this Christmas story. I like all the characters in it even the grumpy old man. The description of those beachfront stores reminds me of a visit to Georgia I recently took. I’d love to visit Nantucket, walk through the shed stores and meet the Shedders.
This was my first book By this author. I’m looking forward to reading more of her work. I received an ARC from Netgalley. Thank you so much for introducing me to this author!
