Darcie Weatherby has a full plate—a preteen and sixteen-year-old twins, a wayward grandmother, a nightmare boss, and a manipulative ex-husband. The last thing she needs are hot flashes.Especially ones that start fires. But like most single mothers, Darcie sucks it up and deals with it, because what else can she do? The kids need to be fed, her grandmother needs supervising, and her demanding boss … her demanding boss needs placating.
Burning her boss’s house down was a total accident.
Honest.
It doesn’t take long before Darcie realizes she’s running on borrowed time. Unless she figures out a way to get these hot flashes under control, there’s a very good chance she’ll spontaneously combust at the Founder’s Day Masquerade Ball and leave her children motherless. There’s no way in hell—or Perry’s Fall, Ohio—Darcie will let that happen.
Never underestimate the determination of a mother.
Especially a smokin’ hot one.

Okay so WOW just doesn’t seem strong enough to fully express how truly amazing this story is…
I never have expectations when it comes to a book by Denise Grover Swank because she has never written anything I didn’t absolutely love and this book was no different, okay well yes it was it was so much more than I could have ever dreamed of I mean the heroine Darcie omg she is amazing and I seriously can;t wait for more from her and her family this story just has so much potential and I know it’s all part of a co-authored world and seriously if this is just one book in that world I am so excited for all the other stories…
I’m not doing spoilers even though I really want to gush about everything that’s how much this story captured my imagination and just when I thought it couldn’t get any better omg it truly did and the ending wow the descriptive writing omg so seriously you just have to read it for yourself.
If you love a bit of magic, a dash of supernatural, an air of mystery and a cast of amazing characters this book is an absolute must read.
Let It All Burn is yet another one of DGS’s great novels. At first I was thinking the story line started off a bit a slow, but that was because I didn’t realize this book was intended to be a series until I got closer to the end of the book. With that knowledge in mind, I thought it was a great first book to start the series and it gives you a great overview of Darcie, her life, and her fiery hot flashes. How does Darcie deal with her new “super power”? With a lot of sass, humor, and bad ***ness!
Denise’s descriptive imaging had me chuckling to myself throughout the book. The description of Darcie trying on dresses in the dressing room had me cracking up, because what women hasn’t been there?! You can’t trust everyone though and I feel like the second book will show us who is good and who has their own nefarious plans for Darcie and her kids.
You definitely don’t have to be in the “older crowd” to enjoy this book. (i.e. women who have experienced hot flashes/menopause) I have yet to reach that stage in my life and I still enjoyed the book! It’s also a great intro book into Paranormal/Urban Fantasy if you’re not normally into that genre as it slowly takes the reader inside that world.
Denise made MAGIC with this book. I’ll admit I was hesitant about this new genre as I wasn’t sure if I was the “right audience” to enjoy it – I WAS WRONG. It’s an incredibly unique and uplifting paranormal book that speaks about motherhood, female empowerment, and family. It perfectly represents mom guilt, navigating relationships, finding your voice, and working through self-esteem. All while we watch as Darcie becomes the most perfect heroine.
Additionally, I enjoyed that this wasn’t the usual dark and sinister paranormal book. It was light and comedic. The story was perfectly timed, it wasn’t rushed but it seemed to come to a good close. I believe the story and writing will appeal to a lot of readers – young and old, single and married, paranormal fan or not. Do yourself a favor and meet Darcie and her bunch!
Read this just for the hot flash magic. Seriously. LOVE! You will not be disappointed in this smart, fun story and heroine Darcie! Enjoy!
Darcie is a newly divorced middle aged mom working hard to support her kids on her own. This book resonated with me so much. I’m not big on fantasy or paranormal but seeing her do everything in her power to protect her family is amazing and I fell in love with all the characters and look forward to continuing the series. This is definitely another great series by one of my favorite authors. Thank you to Denise Grover Swank for gifting me this ARC. This review is my honest opinion.
What a great book. Pulled me in from the first chapter. A single mom with 3 kids making her place in the world. This book keeps you wanting more. Denise’s writing never disappoints. Love all the twist & turns, keeping you on the edge of your seat. This is a reread for sure.
I wasn’t sure how I would like ‘Let it All Burn’ because it isn’t my normal genre, but I enjoy Denise Grover Swank’s books so much I stepped out of my box and I am so glad I did! Darcie is a recently divorced mom of 3 and has recently re-entered the work force. As Darcie is adjusting to all the changes in her life, she starts changing herself. Darcie begins to start fires when she is having a hot flash. As her body is going through this change, she is trying to learn more about family secrets. As she learns more, she continues to change and faces the changes head on. I loved that they story had comedy, mystery, romance, and a mom that survives all the challenges that came her way! After finishing this book, I hope there is more shared of Darcie’s story!
Divorced 40 something mother of three decides she’s going to live life for herself. What she doesn’t know is her family history is coming to affect her life in ways she never expected. Great characters. Unique story. Will definitely be reading the next book.
Age is just a number right? We are still strong and can be bold and brave and love so hard no matter our age. But we have hot flashes. We have mood swings and doubt about our aging bodies.
This story is about a mom who has the worse hot flashes in the history of hot flashes. I feel for her because she has so much going on that the last thing she needs is some crazy, and at times funny, flashes that start fires. It makes for an epic read as her life changes forever. Definitely one of my all time favorite moms with her passion for her babies and her good heart. Loved it!
Huge thank you to the author for allowing me to be part of her review team. All opinions are my own.
WOW! Denise Grover Swank never ceases to amaze me. I’ll admit, when I first heard she was starting a book that was going to be “Paranormal Women’s Fiction” I was like “No way. That can’t be a thing.” First of all, I don’t normally like magical/paranormal/etc. reads. I like my reads to be realistic and something I can relate to. On that note, I also can’t relate to an older woman, because I’m still in my 20s. BUT I WAS SO WRONG.
This book was absolutely fantastic. I’m always in awe of the way Denise (Yeah, I like to pretend we are on a first name basis) writes her characters so realistically so that while they are experiencing these crazy things happening to them, we feel it in our souls as readers. I loved Darcie and I loved how much she cared for her children. The “twist” at the end opens up a whole new avenue and I’m already on the edge of my seat waiting for the next book in the series (I hope it’s a series). I NEED to know what happens!
If you haven’t read a Denise Grover Swank book yet, you’re seriously missing out. She writes stories so beautifully that I love them, even if they aren’t my normal genre. I will literally read anything this woman writes. Thank you Denise Grover Swank! Thank you.
Such an amazing book! I couldn’t put it down, I was reading at work, at my children’s activities, while making dinner, everywhere!
The main character is a middle aged women suffering from hot flashes with a twist. I really appreciated the main character being in her 40s rather than 20s. She has a great circle of friends and family to support her and help dig up the truth. The supporting characters were just as great as the main. I was really able to feel the emotions of all the characters.
I was hooked within the first chapter and I highly recommend this book!
This book is what every book with a strong heroine should be! Darice is a badass mom who learns about a family “curse” the hard way, by it just showing up in her life one day. She is a strong and independent woman who knows the meaning of family and dedication. I thoroughly loved and enjoyed this book. I kept waiting for a man to save her, which is common in most books, and instead, she saved herself! It was so refreshing to read! The storyline was so captivating! I couldn’t put it down once I started it! The ending had me biting my nails and just waiting to see what would happen. I am so excited to read the next book! Like everything DGS puts out, its a book that is well written, funny, and captivating! If you’re looking for a book to keep you on the edge of your seat, this is the book to read!
Let It All Burn is the start of what I hope will be a long series. This first installment sets up all the history and backstory of Darcie and her family. We get to learn that she is an amazing mother of three kids and family means the world to her. She’s in her early forty’s and is in perimenopause with the most wicked hot flashes.
Most of this book is the lead up to what happens at the end, and gives us an insight of what we might expect in the following books. I really liked Darcie, she was someone that we of this age bracket could relate too. I felt she had a little chip on her shoulder and was very wary of men in general, but who can blame her with that Ex husband. Her kids are something she does take pride in and that’s mainly her doing. Another element to the household is Nana Stella, she is a hoot! Life is meant to be lived with that woman. There are other secondary characters, best friend and cousin as well as a very intriguing agent. Hope to read more of him in the next book.
DGS takes time in her novels to bring about not only a storyline that will keep us interested but the history to back up her clever mythical ideas. This book is not heavy or dark with the fantasy and if you like Greek mythology, you’ll get a kick out of this. If you love any of DGS characters, you will see that same flow happening in this book too. This is well worth the read.
Another amazing story from Denise Grover Swank. From the very first sentence to the very end, this book will draw you in. I really enjoyed reading about a woman who is in her 40’s being the main character. It’s a breath of fresh air. And in typical fashion just when you think you have everything figured out…. bam you are thrown a curve ball that sends you in another direction. It’s a great start to a new series that I can’t wait to read.
This is the story about Darcie, she has three kids and is recently divorced from an ass ex. Her life is as complicated as it could be for a housewife who suddenly has to enter the lines of employment after 15 years. I really thought this was going to be a middle-aged woman fighting for her newfound freedom and the struggles of her new life. Let me tell you… this was NOT that.
We start off at a Tupperware kind of party at her boss’s house, when she gets a hot flash and all of the sudden, we learn that the house is on fire. A real full blast consuming fire that gets her boss’s house completely destroyed. From that point forward strange things start to happen to Darcie, which makes her realize that she needs to understand what is happening to her before it is too late.
I have to say I enter this book somehow expecting not to love it, and I was ok with it. I love Denise’s writing it doesn’t have to be perfect all the time, I don’t have to love all and each one of her books for her to be one of my favorites authors. Thankfully this wasn’t the case, this book was AMAZING! The story left me at the edge of my seat, I was expecting everything to happen at once, I loved each one of the characters in this book, even the ass ex. My only regret is that this book isn’t longer! I want to know EVERYTHING! I want to know more about the paranormal result of it, it was so well written that I got to a point almost at the end where I was wondering what they were talking about and I had to remember that this was a paranormal book, I mean hello! hot flash to burn things.
It had been a while that a book left me feeling blue because it was over and I struggle to get back to the real world for some solid 3 hours or so, I really recommend this book. It was a little bit of everything in there, a little bit of romance, mystery, paranormal, some funny stuff, a really interesting plot and action scenes. I hope we get to see more Darcie and her family and friends in the future and I think it has strong potential for more, I’m greedy, when it comes to Denise’s books that I adore, I always want more.
Let it All Burn ended up just being an okay read for me. Overall the book didn’t work for me and felt is squandered some great potential. I was never fully connected to the story and it was easy for me to lose focus while I was reading.
What I did like:
-I enjoyed how this story centered around Greek mythology
-I really liked how the heroine (Darcie) is over 40 and the book dealt with real issues relating to that age. I was also excited that when the heroine goes through her rebirth she chooses to stay her age instead of taking on a younger self
– Darcie and her family are the best part of the book. It had great intergeneration family drama with fully fleshed out and complex characters. I wished the book focus more on the family and dealing with Darcie’s transformation
What I didn’t like:
-This book felt all over the place and lacked cohesiveness. I felt some of the storylines and characters were used for filler and were not necessary to advance the plot. This whole book would have worked better if it focused on Darci and her family. I also felt to many supporting/main characters felt like caricatures and not fully fleshed people, especially the villains (more of the mustache-twirling variety).
I do think there are some good bones to this new series and hope to see the author focus more on Darci and her family in the next book.

“WOW! I didn’t see that coming!” That is what I was saying in the ending of this book. When a book has you saying that, you know it’s an amazing story. I loved everything about this book! Darcie is a strong woman, who seems to take everything that is going on in stride, while standing up for herself and her kids. I loved her relationship with her kids. Denise draws you in with how she makes everything so realistic. This has a paranormal story line that you don’t read about every day and will keep you on your toes. I so hope that this series continues, so pick it up now!
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of this book.
Talk about obsessed! I expected Let it All Burn to be a good book, because let’s face it Denise wrote it, but I was totally blown away. Her imagination and ability to create and tell stories is absolutely incredible. This book is nothing like anything I’ve ever read, as I’m not a huge paranormal reader. I honestly haven’t been this into a book in quite some time, and did not want to put it down. Let it All Burn is full of humor and had me laughing out loud the entire time. I’m not a middle aged woman, I’m only thirty one, but I can guarantee you readers of all ages can enjoy this book and become engrossed in the story. The ending was so intense with twists and revelations that I had to read it twice! I cannot wait for the next book in this super unique series!
This book definitely is the first book of a series. You are left at the end needing to know more of the story and what is going to happen. A lot of lose ends are hanging out there giving it the easy segway into the next book in the series.
Forty-two year old Darcie is a powerful character. She gets thrown with so many different things throughout this book and takes it in stride. I feel since this is the first book in a series, that we learned a lot of background in regards to Darcie and why she does what she does. Changing hair? No problem for Darcie. Random tattoo on her back? Not a big deal! Hot flashes causing fires? Darcie’s got this! She’s one momma that does anything in her power to save her kids and help her family.
There were a lot of characters in this book that played into shaping Darcie into who she was by the end of the book. From cutie Parker, to sexy Heath, Denise leads the reader from one situation to the next where you’re unsure of how this is all going to play out.
The next book in this series is highly anticipated to find out what happens next. If you’re into a dip into the paranormal world, with a character who’s actually dealt with life and makes rational decisions, this is a good book for you!
DGS does it again! Where does she come up with these stories?! Being of similar age to the main character, I totally get the pressures of raising three kids, trying to make ends meet in a dead end job and dealing with a newly ex-husband. This story alone, was relatable and I was enjoying the book – BUT, when Darcie, (the leading female), begins to experience “the change” I could NOT put this book down. The stories of the additional characters, her best friend Cyd, Cousin Ella, Nana, and her mother were all a wonderful family dynamic. Add in a mysterious love interest by a younger colleague and an FBI agent (I wasn’t sure to trust) and this is a great story. THE BEST PART – I am not even HINTING at the BEST PART! Talk about a kick butt story of a strong woman who is fully into her own and not only excepting life changes but tackling life balls to the wall – THAT is Darcie! If you love to read books with great characters, storyline, a little love interest, and strong empowering females…. you MUST read this book!
