Darcie Weatherby has a full plate—a preteen and sixteen-year-old twins, a wayward grandmother, a nightmare boss, and a manipulative ex-husband. The last thing she needs are hot flashes.Especially ones that start fires. But like most single mothers, Darcie sucks it up and deals with it, because what else can she do? The kids need to be fed, her grandmother needs supervising, and her demanding boss … her demanding boss needs placating.
Burning her boss’s house down was a total accident.
Honest.
It doesn’t take long before Darcie realizes she’s running on borrowed time. Unless she figures out a way to get these hot flashes under control, there’s a very good chance she’ll spontaneously combust at the Founder’s Day Masquerade Ball and leave her children motherless. There’s no way in hell—or Perry’s Fall, Ohio—Darcie will let that happen.
Never underestimate the determination of a mother.
Especially a smokin’ hot one.

“A hilarious paranormal take on motherhood and middle-age. This book will have you crossing your legs as you laugh and crossing your fingers that your hot flashes don’t cause anything to burst into flames.” –Mandy M. Roth, NY Times and USA TODAY Bestselling Author
A funny, highly entertaining read!
I was both, excited and scared when I started reading this book. Excited because it looked like a very interesting paranormal comedy, scared because other romantic comedies I’d read from this author were more suitable for a younger audience. Or so I thought. I’m no lo longer looking for syrupy sweet readings.
And it wasn’t. The sense of humor was delightful, centered on a 42-year old main character with an ironic self-perception and an undisputable fierceness to tackle life. Thus, it never looks like the author is making fun of a stereotyped, cartoonish middle-aged woman (I’d have abhorred that), but more like a real character (excuse the oxymoron) who is a witty woman in an unassuming sort of way.
But wait. No, I mean it, wait. You’ve got to wait until the end of scene 1 to get hooked. It’s not much, and it’s really worth the waiting. After that, the plot really unfolds and you get to laugh and giggle while Darcie goes through her hot flashes, which are hotter than hell.
To the third-quarters of the book, the pace and tone change and the novel goes from paranormal comedy with hints of romance to full suspense and thriller at the end. Those of you who follow this writer will know that she’s a master in mystery/suspense stories with strong emotional backgrounds. Now she’s combined those abilities with a paranormal comedy that sets this great new series apart from her other works but equally as high quality.
Wow!! Yet again I have been sucked into another amazing book by Denise Grover Swank. Every time I feel like I have found my favorite series by her she writes another book that I fall in love with.
The start of what I hope is another new series. We meet Darcie. A working mother of 3 who is doing it all on her own and rocking it. While she seems like a pushover, we get to watch her grow into a confident no sh*t taking women. All while dealing with the dreaded aging process of a women over 40. Hilarious, fast paced book with anything any reader would want. From humor, to real life, to paranormal elements, to what looks like romance it has it all.
No matter what genre you usually read, I believe any women would love this book.
My first thought after I finished this book was Holy crap that was awesome!
A story about a woman whose hot flashes start fires. Sounds hilarious right? Well it is funny, but it’s so much more! It’s about a mother’s strength and love. It’s about a women’s perseverance after having the rug pulled out from under her. It’s about women standing together and helping each other. It’s about a woman recognizing the strength in herself. I read this while I had the flu and I was miserable. But by the end of the book I was so pumped up and felt stronger than I had even before I got sick. So this is a funny story where some crazy stuff happens to change Darcie’s life. And it is so entertaining and gives you a little mystery about her family’s history and things are not what they seem. But it’s also a story about empowering women. And it’s amazing.
This is such a great read!! Let it All Burn introduces Darcie, a 42 year old mother of 3, that recently had to start her life over. She starts off a little too nice, a little too accommodating, and reading this amazing story of her rising to every challenge and becoming so much more was so inspiring and wonderful. The cast of characters were interesting, each contributing in their own way to the story, making each important. The paranormal aspects were incredibly creative and original. This story captivated me almost immediately and I really had a blast solving the mystery alongside Darcie and her crew that’s more like family. I hope we get more Darcie in the future as I will be thinking about her over and over for a while. She sticks to you like that. Great read, great writing, 5 stars!
This is a book I will read over and over. Denise Grover Swank could write the phone book and I would read it.
“Unforgettable! Denise Grover Swank is a master of women’s fiction and always delivers. With ‘Let It All Burn’ she takes hot flashes to a whole new, hilarious level. Stop what you’re doing. You’ll want to read this.”
Highly recommend this paranormal women’s fiction! Funny, great premise, and completely un-put-downable! Love this!
There is a lot to like about this book. Plenty of comedy, touching and realistic family interactions and a hint of romance. Darcie has a wonderful relationship with her children and is a strong role model. She has put on her big girl pants and has pushed forward after her divorce. (Please note the divorce is not the focus of the book) This book is a beautiful blend of empowerment and vulnerability. The paranormal comedy portion of the story is imaginative and well developed. I really enjoyed the mystery in the family lineage. If you are a fan of Denise’s you will find comfort and familiarity in this book. It will be another book that you’ll find that just belongs in your library.
I’ve always loved urban fantasy and paranormal romance stories but, as a woman of a particular age, I couldn’t always relate to the heroines. So, when I heard about the new Paranormal Women’s Fiction genre, piloted by some of my absolute favorite authors, I was all in—and I was not disappointed. As much as I was looking forward to reading about a forty-something woman, I wasn’t sure if it was going to actually translate well to the page. Would the sexual tension still be…well…sexy? Would it be believable? I’m here to tell you that the answer is YES to all those questions. This book was so much more than I could have imagined.
Darcie is a heroine that I could relate to, but more than that, she is a strong and believable woman. A recent divorcee with three children still at home, she begins to get hot flashes, but they are much more than what most of us experience—she is actually setting things on fire! Soon she realizes there is much more going on, and she enlists some family and friends to help her figure out the changes that are happening to her body and her life.
I really liked how Darcie wasn’t afraid to ask for help and I loved the relationship she had with her children. I also liked the love interest, and I can’t wait to see where this relationship goes in the next book. Even though no sexy times in this edition, there were some smoking (pun intended!) scenes in this book that have me looking forward to what’s to come. You hit it out of the park, Denise! One of my new favorite series, for sure!
What did I think of the book? I think the Denise has written a book that is a bestseller. I couldn’t put it down. I love that she has taken two myths and put them together in a book. I got this book not having read that blurb or knowing anything about it. Let’s be honest, Denise could write the ingredients on a package and it would be a best seller.
Paranormal/supernatural genre is hard to break into and I think that Denise has done an amazing job. She brings everything to life and you can feel every little emotion that is portrayed. Get this book now!!!
“My life turned to crap at a Tupperware party”
Darcie is a 42 year old Divorcee with 3 kids.
She is smart, funny, and the most amazing mom who doesn’t put up with crap when it comes to her children. You really become engrossed in Darcie’s life.
This started out in a contemporary setting with a slow build up into this paranormal amazing story. Gradually you see small puzzle pieces dropped here and there and grows more intriguing as you go along.
Only thing I didn’t like is that the book had to end. I wanted it to continue on and on. Looking down while reading and see it was 80% complete it made me sad that it was almost over. I absolutely hope this is the start of a new series, I want so bad for it to continue.
I highly recommend this book as it is filled with humor, growth, and kick ass characters!
Holy SMOKES!
A divorced mother of three already has a full plate, but throw in some fiery hot flashes and Darcie’s world goes up in flames. Denise Grover Swank writes the most amazing heroines-they have wit, strength and heart. Darcie is all of that and more! I love Darcie’s fierce protectiveness of her kids. As she seeks to figure out what is causing some drastic changes in her life, she uncovers family secrets. Add in a hunky FBI agent, and you have a sizzling story that the reader won’t put down until the end! I seriously cannot wait for what comes next in Darcie’s world.
This was such a fun read! I mean what doesn’t sound fun about fires being started by hot flashes?! What a cool concept! I just love Darcie! Even though I’m in my upper 20s, she’s still completely relatable and I love having a main character who has some real world experience and can show it. I also love her take no sh*t attitude. The other characters in the book (especially the kids, Cyn, Nana Stella, oh and obviously Heath) are just as good and I had a great time getting to know all of them.
Let It All Burn is full of humor, mystery, action, supernatural elements, and even a touch of romance. I enjoyed every minute of it. I was so excited as I got towards the end and realized this was being teed up to be a series. I hope we get more from Darcie’s world because I have to know what happens next!
Another great read! To me it’s important that a book catches my interest and keeps me excited. “Let It All Burn”, a paranormal fantasy, did exactly that. A recent 42 year old divorcee, Darcie, has three children and makes the statement “my life turned to crap at a Tupperware party.”
Using humor and sensitivity Denise Grover Swank explores the very real concerns of Darcie: a questionable peri menopause change at her age, her financial situation, her ex-husband’s infidelity, should she date, and how her children are emotionally dealing with the divorce.
There are twists and turns as this mystery is unveiled.Darcie evolves into a strong take no nonsense woman. Questions are answered and I was left reassured she was more than a survivor. Whether Let It All Burn becomes a series or stays as a stand alone book, it is worth reading.
Let is All Burn has so much humor, action, mystery, and fun. Darcie and her children’s personalities were so great. There were several times I laughed out loud. I felt Darcie’s anger and fierce protection over her children. I loved that Darcie is not a typical teenage/early twenties heroine. She has life experience, humility, priorities that are not self centered, humbleness, a fierce momma bear, and absolutely relatable.
There were so many times I thought I figured out where the book was going with the story line and BOOM things changed and I was back to guessing. I am so excited to see where Darcie’s abilities and responsibilities take her. I also am very eager to see the role her family and friends take in Darcie’s new role. I am intrigued by Heath and the role(s) he could potentially play in her life.
This new book is amazing!! It had a bit of everything in it!!
I laughed so much while reading, “Let it all burn” by most of the characters. I mean laugh out loud laughing in public.
I love Darcie, Nana Stella and the kiddos. While the main character was a older character, I was still able to connect with her. Darcie is a phenomenal character, and I love how she evolves to being her own, strong, empowered role model to her family in the first book! I’m honestly still reeling from everything that I learned. I’m looking forward to reading the next installment!!
Hooked! That’s what I am right now on this book. Let it All Burn is a paranormal story following an “older” woman named Darcie. She is a 42 year old mother of 3 who recently divorced her husband of 20 years. She begins to notice some weird changes after some strange happenings. She doesn’t know why they are happening or how to stop them. Darcie begins to make a connection between herself and her great grandmother and is trying to find the truth behind what really happened to her. Along the way, Darcie needs to learn who she can and cannot trust from her news-reporter cousin, Ella, to the FBI agent, Heath.
I thought this book was amazingly written. I had trouble in the beginning connecting to the story, but as it progressed and more information was divulged I began to crave more. This was definitely a fast paced story, easy to follow along, with great world building and amazing characters. I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed the sarcastic remarks in the story. If anything that is what connected me to Darcie the most, I love sarcasm. I want nothing more than to see where Denise Grover Swank, takes this story.
What just happened? That is what I asked myself at the end of this book. I love when Denise writes a “MOM” book. She knows how to pull those heartstrings together.
Darcie is like most mom’s trying to get by and raise her kids to the best of her ability. All though she has some obstetricals that make it hard for her to do that. Being one a big butt head of a ex-husband. He never gets it. Everything seems to go right over his head. Another thing is the changes she is going through. I mean she does give new meaning to hot flashes. She has a team of great people that step up to help figure things out. Even some cute guy hotness. Yes, I said cute guy hotness.
Denise has a great way of writing that makes you feel like you are apart of the story. You feel the words. There are some funny parts. So you are going to have some laugh out loud moments. That loosens up the hard shell of seriousness you feel when she is trying to figure out if she going to catch fire.
This book is about a woman over 40 who can and will kick some paranormal butt. I am excited about this new age group of woman that is going to take the reading world by storm. I hope everyone picks up this book and reads it. It has something for everyone.
Wow! Yes, Wow! I’m still in awe! Let it all burn – literally! This was not only the first book of a new series but starts absolutely brand new genre where the main character is woman over 40! I was pulled into new amazing magical world Denise Grover Swank builds for us. Paranormal comedy at the beginning leading to really serious one.
Darcie, now single mother of three,in her 42 starts having hot as hell hot flashes, which leads to … you have to discover this by yourself,- already strong but growing even stronger each passing day character, I just love her personality. Love her kids, Nana Stella – OMG I’d love to be like her in my 80’s! Paranormal abilities, mystery, hint of romance, mother love and strength, amazing friends, women empowering – this and much more you will find in this amazing book. This is definitely my new favorite series and I can’t wait for the next book!!!
