If you’re a guy like me, and you find yourself having banged your sexy new boss—the school principal—in the back of your Jeep one drunken night, here’s a few takeaways based on my experience…Lesson One: Always get her FULL name.Lesson Two: Consider asking what she does for a living.Lesson Three: Find out why she’s moved to town. Get details. Details are crucial.Lesson Four: Don’t alter her bio … moved to town. Get details. Details are crucial.
Lesson Four: Don’t alter her bio in front of an auditorium of high school students unless you know she has a sense of humor for that sort of thing.
Lesson Five: If you ignore Lesson Four, apologize instead of flirt when you’re sent to the principal’s office.
Lesson Six: NEVER sleep with her again.
Lesson Seven: Pay attention to this one—it’s the most important of them all.
Don’t fall for your one-night stand.
Class dismissed.

Great love story. Unpredictable & romantic
Following the death of his parents Austin sets aside his dream of becoming a pro baseball player to raise his eight siblings. He takes a position as a classroom teacher and ball coach in his Alaskan community. A night at the bar puts him in contact with Holly whereupon they have a steamy connection in Austin’s jeep. It’s so steamy that the windows are all fogged with the exception of a hand print on the glass. Awkwardness reigns when Austin learns that Holly is the interim principal for the high school. Small town gossip keeps all things interesting. What occurs when this couple discover their lifetime goals?
This book was kind of ridiculously fun. I figure the town has to be seriously small for one family to have almost rock star status and when a stranger comes to town EVERYONE knows it.
There were moments that were funny, witty, irritating, and completely unrealistic. There is something about Lake Starlight and the Bailey’s that is kind of endearing.
Austin and Holly’s story laid the foundation for the Bailey family background to be described. There was a little information provided about each sibling, G’ma D, and a few friends.
The backwards beginning of their relationship was an interesting way to start their story. Austin originally came across as kind of irresponsible. I think anyone could understand the feelings Austin was struggling with about his future. I felt for Holly who was only looking for some validation from her father. It seemed as though they found some level of comfort from each other.
This book was a lighthearted read that struck me as a sweet, small town romance full of family, love, support, loyalty and romance.
This was my first book by Piper Rayne and I totally fell in love with the Bailey family. I loved the blend of family, tight knit community, romance, witty dialogue and humor in this story. I really enjoyed Austin and Holly’s relationship and the fun and sexy times they had together. I devoured this book once I started and couldn’t put down. I have become an instant fan of this writing duo and can’t wait to read more in this series.
This was such a fun story that I really enjoyed. Austin and Bailey were funny and cute and steamy. I adored them. I also loved Austin’s whole family. They are a riot and a half, especially Dori – I can’t wait to read the other siblings books just for more glimpses of her. The mystery of gossip blog is fun and I can see that being a running theme throughout all the books. I liked the added humor/drama that it brought to the book. Forcing them to be sneaky, it was fun. As I said, enjoyed this book a lot and would recommend it.
A little small town romance with no strings attached became the romance of the season for Lake Starlight and it’s gossip blog Buzz Wheel. Austin and Holly find themselves the center of attention after what they believed would be a one night stand; only to find out that they will be working together at the local school. Neither plan to be in the area very long, but find themselves pulled to the other. When dreams finally become reality, they find that their dreams have changed and we get our HEA.
I’m a little late finding this series, but if the rest of it is as good as this one, I can see myself binging it in short order!
Austin banged his sexy new boss, Holly, the high school principal, in the back of his Jeep one drunken night. He learned seven lessons from that experience. Always get her full name. Consider asking what she does for a living. Find out why she moved to town. Do not alter her bio in front of an auditorium of high school students unless you know she has a sense of humor for that sort of thing. If you ignore the last lesson, apologize instead of flirting when sent to her office. Never sleep with her again. Do not fall for your one-night stand. – This is a great small-town Alaskan romance. Austin and Holly are wonderful and perfect for each other. The Bailey family includes a variety of fun characters, and the school employees are interesting. I liked the story and enjoyed the book tremendously.
This is my first Piper Rayne book and I couldn’t be more thrilled! I was quickly taken in by the large, rambunctious, and heartwarming Bailey clan.
After losing their parents in a freak accident Austin leaves his dreams behind to come home to help raise his younger siblings. For nine years now he has been teaching and coaching at Lake Starlight High School and the twins are about to graduate high school giving Austin the opportunity to finally follow his passion to coach college baseball. What he hadn’t planned on was his recent one night stand turning out to be the new interim high school principal.
Principal Holly Radcliffe had no idea that one wild and passionate night in a strangers jeep would lead to her being the topic of school and town gossip, and as Austin’s boss that night can never be repeated. Yet best intentions aren’t always the easiest to adhere to when the object of your desire is so damn hot. Plus, this job is temporary. There is another reason Holly is in town. But sometimes no matter how much we hope for a certain outcome, life can surprise us in the most unexpected ways.
Holly was the perfect blend of no-nonsense and sweet to bring the oldest Bailey to his knees. But will Austin realize that the dreams he had in the past may have grown into something completely different and far more wonderful before it’s too late?

Holly is new to Alaska. She’s taken a principal job for the remainder of the year, but she is also there to try and connect with her father who abandoned her and her mother when she was a baby. To complicate an already complex situation, she engages in a one-night stand – the most amazing s3x of her life – a quickly discovers Mr. Amazing is one of the teachers at her school. The attraction is palpable. Trying to stay away from Austin is proving difficult and before too long, she’s agreed to a casual relationship that will end at the end of the year because just like Holly, Austin is headed out as soon as the year is over as well. He’s got plans and she’s got to figure out her next move after she tests the waters with her father. But things never tend to work out as planned and before too long her emotions concerning Austin are completely caught up. He is exactly the guy she imagines herself with if they were to have a future. But Austin has had his life on hold for far too long and she refuses to be the reason he continues to hold back for. The resentment she is sure he would feel toward her eventually would be too much to bear. As much as it rips her heart out to do so, she encourages him to chase his dream. Meanwhile, she decides to call Lake Starlight her permanent home and try to figure out what this new life of hers will look like without Austin in it.
Austin is finally within reach of his dreams. Following the unexpected deaths of his parents, he ceases his course toward pro-baseball to return home to care for his younger siblings. Now that the youngest of the Bailey’s is graduating high school, Austin sets his sights on coaching ball at the college level. But the arrival of Holly has him rethinking his plans. However, Holly never gives any indication that she could feel more for him, so he continues with their original plan. Enjoy one another for as long as they can and then part ways to continue on their vastly differing paths. Graduation arrives quicker than expected and before too long Austin is headed to California and away from Alaska. But the closer he gets to his flight, the more doubt surrounds him. Is he making the right decision? Could Holly be more invested than she let on? Is it possible his dreams have altered without him realizing it? And should he remain on course, or veer into uncharted territory and risk his heart and career?
I have not experienced a Piper Rayne book before this read and I can say with confidence that it will definitely not be the last. I was sucked into the Bailey vortex immediately and didn’t want it to stop. Austin and Holly are so flipping likable that I couldn’t help but fall in love with them both. Seriously, they were both perfect. I couldn’t find a single thing about them that I disliked. Austin is the perfect guy. He puts his life on hold and commits to raising his younger siblings – all 7 of them who are still underage at the time of their parents’ tragic accident. He is well aware that he has to be a role model and that he will have to find a way to comingle the brother/parent personas. He will never have the relationship he would have had with them, but he doesn’t resent any of them for it. He, in fact, counts himself as lucky to have been able to step in and keep the family together and – for the most part – on course. But he also had his own dreams and now that the twins are in their senior year in high school, he is ready to leave the nest himself. While he is firm in his resolve, his siblings are less than thrilled about the idea despite understanding his decision. And then there is Holly. He could have never seen her coming and suddenly she tilts everything off Austin’s axis. But Holly also understands Austin’s sacrifice and his need to follow his dream so she puts on a brave face, knowing he is going to blast her heart to smithereens with his departure. I absolutely adored them.
The Bailey’s are a spectacular family with each member being introduced even if a bit briefly. Each one has their own unique personality and chosen path; each one sure to provide a stellar read in the future. I look forward to being able to embark on several journeys to come with this fantastic family. If I were to have any complaint, it would be with Holly’s father. He was basically a douchnozzle. Period. But he is also entangled with the Bailey family and I can’t help but wonder how that will come into play as the series progresses. It has to on some level and because of that, I am confident that we will see Austin and Holly again as the books continue within this delightful series. Nothing about his supposed family was ever confirmed and his reasoning for opening shop in this area of Alaska was never revealed. My instinct tells me that there is more to his story somewhere down the line. Even Holly’s mother joined the line-up of characters, as well as her best friend. So we’ve got a ridiculous amount of potential laid down with the foundation of this first book in series.
I found myself emotional in several scenes within this book regarding Holly. From her father’s rejection (or was it – maybe it wasn’t exactly what we thought) to her heart-wrenching goodbye to Austin, to her emotional wreckage of trying to move on with Austin’s departure from Lake Starlight. This book will hit you with all the feels. Holly and Austin share scorching hot chemistry that burns up the pages. Between their beautifully told story and the Bailey siblings, the enigma that is Grandma Dori, and the secondary characters added from Holly’s connections to the wonderful resident within Lake Starlight, you won’t want to end your time in this whimsical little town. I was wrecked from the emotional torment the last few chapters forced me into, but somewhat reinvigorated with the knowledge that the epilogue was not goodbye but see you later. If you are on the hunt for a great series involving a lovable family and their rise from the ashes after being dealt a horrific blow, following them through their failures and successes, then look no further. Piper Rayne is guaranteed to deliver. I don’t know how I have never experienced the writing of this duo before, but you can be sure I will be soaking in each book I can from here on out.
Kindle version purchased for my own personal library.
Another one bought the whole series!!!
Great Book! This is my favorite of the series, I love Austin and Holly, and they are the best. The book is well written, funny, wonderful characters. There are so many things I loved about this book. Piper and Rayne creates a great story, we get to have lots of fun with the Bailey family and Grandma Dori in Alaska and can’t wait for the next trip for my holiday treat when you visit a town and follow the news with Buzz Wheel blog. I really recommend this book
I have been devouring books by these girls!! So I figured it was a good time to start this series. Lessons From A One Night Stand was the first book in their Baileys Series. It was funny, sexy, and swoony! The Baileys are all amazing and I look forward to reading about them all!!
Austin had an amazing one night stand in the back of his Jeep. Little did he know, he would soon be seeing her again…
Holly came to town to be the temporary principal at the high school but had other personal reasons for the move. One of those reasons was NOT her one night stand turned co-worker, but would he be the reason she ending up staying?
What an amazing start to this series! I love all things Piper Rayne and this did not disappoint! Austin was such a strong character that had gone through so much, it was so nice to see him get a happy ending! I look forward to seeing them again as the series continues.
Really cute. I liked the small town romance between Austin and Holly. The gossip rag narrating their tryst was fun and quite funny. Austin was really great and I felt for the dilemma he was in. He changed his whole life plan to go back home to take care of his siblings after his parents die in an accident. Now its finally time for him to leave a pursue his dreams. It wouldn’t have been so hard if he wasn’t so drawn to Holly and the guilt trip his family laid on him.
I also really adored Holly. She was super sweet and put Austin’s dreams above the fact that she was really falling for him. Despite that her time in town was supposed to be temporary it didn’t stop her from falling head over heels for everything and everyone in the little town.
Lessons from a One-Night Stand was super sweet and absolutely adorable to read.
I loved this large family and the small Alaskan town they live in. Being a small town means everyone knows your business, it’s hard to keep secrets, and the rumor mill is always running.
The Bailey clan was shattered when the parents were killed in an accident, leaving nine children. Austin, 21, and Savannah, 19, were left to raise their younger siblings and the family business. Austin takes over the parenting duties while Savannah takes over the family business.
My favorite part of the story was watching Austin and Holly dance around their mutual attraction while trying to hide the relationship from everyone else.
This synopsis pulled me right in! I love one-night stands that turn into more, I love women in power positions, and I love a good laugh in my romance read, and this has it all!
But if there is one thing I love in general, it’s great families, and the Bailey’s are just that. I was so excited to jump into the Bailey’s world and learn all about them. This is Austin Bailey’s story, and let me just tell you, he has a HEART OF GOLD! He’s definitely book boyfriend material. Seriously, he’s just fundamentally caring and everything you could want in a man. Holly is a kick-ass Harvard grad at the top of her game. She’s the principal, and a fun female lead. She’s got her own story, and it’s interesting to see how it unfolds. Don’t even get me started on the town of Starlight! Not only is there a great family, but also the small town love. Just wait until you hear about the gossip blog!
Small town vibes + loving family + romcom = one happy reader!
Do yourself a favor and read this book! I CANNOT wait for the rest of the Bailey’s to find their matches. Luckily, we’re getting two more books this year!
Recently, I searched for a new author to read and found Piper Rayne’s The Bailey’s series. I fell in love with Austin and Holly, but especially Austin. I mean, what’s not to love with that guy? Giving details will spoil all the fun surprises, but if you like surprises The Baileys are a fun read. I think I love most that I could connect to the characters and their quirky family–mine is so similar and made me love them more. Most of all, I’m a sucker for a great romance and this one had all the feels. So excited I found this series!
Simply delightful entertainment!
This was a super fun read about what happens when you don’t get all the details on your one night stand! Love how it all played out between Holly and Austin, and while it would’ve been fun to actually see the night in question, I’m looking forward to getting to know more of the Bailey family – who sound crazy!
While it’s hard to keep the 9 Bailey kids straight, this was a quick sweet read. Love a small-town romance.
Add some funny in with steamy and you have a great read in this one.
