After her ex-boyfriend Wally drops a pill his hypnotherapist gave him for his headaches, Sabrina gets suspicious and decides to have John, a chemistry teacher, analyze the contents. They are both surprised to find the pill contained dextramaltin, an illegal substance derived from the Jimbaya plant in Southeast Asia, known for its mind-altering properties. Why would a Wally’s therapist be giving him this drug? It must have something to do with Gregory Morton’s grand claims about his transformative hypnosis, which always sounded suspicious to Sabrina. But before she and David, her Detective boyfriend, could ask him about it, Gregory is found murdered in his office. They determine that what looks like a burglary gone wrong, probably isn’t, as the only thing missing is the bottles of dextramaltin! A lot of people, including patients, were not happy with Gregory, but can they figure out which one killed him? A great murder mystery as you watch them try to sort things out!
Clearly ‘innocent until proven guilty’ doesn’t apply to these cozy mystery stories.
Power, Control, and Greed
The local hypnotist may be dispensing more than just suggestions to change his patient’s behavior and apparently someone was mortally offended. The doctor is the latest murder case for Sabrina Daley and her boyfriend, Detective David Carlson and every lead they follow seems to be a dead end. A possibility of a link between the doctor and a secret society may provide clues but also unknown dangers.
Sabrina and David are likable and have good chemistry going, along with a little romance. They may be the main characters, but the supporting characters add a lot to the plot in this series, including Snickerdoodle. I am really enjoying this series.
Love Sabrina and David!
The duo of Sabrina and David are great fun to read. Their tag-team investigative style keeps the bad guys sweating and the story interesting.
Mmmmm lemon bars. I’m really starting to think that Sabrina needs to quit the coffee shop and join the police department. She seems to solve every murder before the police have a clue and it doesn’t seem like she’s at the coffee shop alot anyway. I really like this series but I’m starting to wonder if there will be any citizens left to kill off.

David is small town’s only detective and his girlfriend Sabrina is good at getting answers from suspects, so he takes her with him on murder investigation as an unpaid consultant. That’s especially important in this case because she found a dangerous drug belonging to an ex boyfriend, asked a chemist to evaluate it, and were about to face the prescriber some questions when he turned up murdered. They pursue the investigation logically, confront hostile suspects, and are almost amazed at the conclusion. A really good morning read!
Sabrina is determined to find the truth about the pills the hypnotherapist is giving to their patients and that is making them feel down. But when she and David are going to confront him he is found dead. Will they solve the mystery? Well written and we’ll narrated. Meredith Potts never disappoints you.
I found this series to be very repetitive. It seems to be written more for a young adult that adult cozy. It is a very clean book no fowl language no sex both which I am happy with. But I find the characters to have no real substance. They don’t come across as being real. That all said the book was an Okay read just don’t expect a deep mystery. Lisa Beacon does a good job of narrating this book. It is hard to see how good she might be because the story is so simply written. I was gifted this book with the understanding that I would leave an honest review.
Love this series. It just keeps getting better with each book. Sabrina and David are sleuthing again, another murder has occurred in Treasure Cove. The twist in the end was a welcome closure of a mystery that was plaguing the town. If you love a good mystery and great recipes then this book is for you. Totally recommend this book, and the series, to all mystery lovers.
