If you are looking for non stop action then this is the book for you and what is even better is the author has combine four of her best books into this box set (then again all of her book are excellent). Leine is a tough strong female that is the type of character that you want on your side of you are in trouble. The stories are all very different but excellently written, so that each book has you hooked until the very end.
Cargo
Wow, loved this story. It made such a change for most of the story to be set in Africa instead of a big city setting. Where Leine has to not only fight bad guy but also contend with the native animals too.
This story sees Leine helping out an old friend from her past when her daughter disappears while backpacking in Thailand but things soon go wrong for both Leine and the missing girl. So Leine soon finds herself having to do something contrary to up training as an ex assassin and rely on the help of a stranger. Resulting a very good story that I really enjoyed
The Last Deception
This is another action packed book. Leine Basso has just safely completed a mission for SHEN (Stop Human Enslavement Now) and is on her way home but before she can leave she gets a worrying text message from a friend and rushes off to her aid. When the refugee camp in bombed she soon finds herself drawn back into her old life and taking on a Russian General with very high ties to the Russian government. Can she stop a terrorist attack in America? All this leads to lots of action
Dark Return,
Oh wow!!!!! After safely returning a young girl to her family Leine is tasked with going undercover in a refugee camp as a reporter to find out why orphaned children are going missing. Before she gets there she befriends a young street kid called Jinn after saving her life when she stops two thugs from killing her. Agreeing to help her Leine takes her with her to the camp to find her missing mother. Not everything and everyone is what they seem at the camp and when leaving the camp Leine is attacked and hurt. She gets help by an unexpected source but by doing so she puts everybody in danger. This is more than just missing children someone wants them for a reason and when things with a previously rescued child turns deadly Leine might just have to go it alone in order to keep everyone safe. The problem is someone knows about Jinn.
Absolution
Two trained female assassin working for different sides, decided they can’t live with the other alive in the world and so go head to head in one explosive book. Not wanting her friends used as bait and not sure who to trust Leine Basso (the heroine) goes it alone, at full throttle. This leads to an explosive book
I really like the narrator and can’t imagine any one else doing a better job of portraying Leine.
This is just a must listen too book by an talented author and and excellent narrator.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
My fifth read from author D.V. Berkom with a kick-ass female main character! I love mystery & espionage & Berkom has both in these books. She’s created a character you want to read more about! I have to read more by this author about this character. I’ll be reading more by this author, especially since I just went out & discovered that I own more books in the series! (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018). (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
Captivating series….
As an armchair thrill-seeker, I have been thoroughly entertained by each of the Leine Basso books. Without leaving the comfort of your favorite chair you can travel to exotic locales, experience adrenalin-fueled action, and get caught up in captivating plots that allow you an exciting and pleasurable little vacation from your own life. If you want a brief synopsis of each story, read the blurb for that book (or the other reviews). My review is about the series, itself. The main plot line in each book is satisfactorily resolved but there are secondary/background story lines that allow one book to neatly segue into the next. You will not be subjected to the cruel stab of a sudden cliffhanger ending. The main characters are all unique, well-developed, and absorbing. There are several supporting characters which appear in multiple books and they, like the main characters, continue to evolve as the series progresses. Unlike many books of the thriller genre, you will not be inundated with foul language, you will not be subjected to excessively gruesome descriptions, and, as mentioned earlier, you will not be taunted by an abrupt cliffhanger ending. There is violence but it is appropriate to the situation in which the characters find themselves. D. V. Berkom always draws you in right from the first page and keeps you turning those pages until way past your bedtime. I highly recommend this author and this series for anyone who enjoys fast-paced, intelligent thrillers involving relevant and timely issues.
