Tarot cards seldom lie. So when they predict chaos and bad luck for her last client of the day, Emerald gets more than a little worried. He leaves behind a charming jade statue of a dragon–but promptly dies in a hit-and-run accident outside of her shop. When other terrible things begin to plague Em and her family, the only explanation is the jade dragon. To thwart its evil spell, she’ll have to … to follow a trail of heartache all the way back to China’s Ming Dynasty–and its ancient–and sometimes harsh–mysteries.

The author took a nice storyline and turned it into a great read because of your interest in the magical and unusual.
Readers will probably be able to relate to many of the characters in this small town where the spine-chilling occurrences seem to fall on this one person who is blamed for everything that goes wrong simply because he’s earned the reputation.
Readers will find almost every conclusions is wrong (mine were), but the author gives enough information to keep bringing readers back to the book.
Very enjoyable … worth spending an evening with this one … or maybe two evenings.
Em is a witch who lives with her two kids, Randa and Kip. She owns a tea room and does tarot readings, and it is the tarot reading gone wrong that starts the horror for Em. She runs out of her shop to try and return a jade dragon to a customer who’d forgotten it, only to see the customer killed in a hit and run accident. And that is the start of some horrible luck, including injury, breakins, betrayal, and uncertainty. If you can get past the supernatural occult themes, the book is a pretty good read. The story is based on ancient legend which is intriguing.
A man comes in and asks Emerald to do reading for him the cards won’t tell her his future, she refunds his money. After he leaves she finds his handkerchief with a small hand carved jade dragon. She calls to him to let him know what she found and watches as he is hit by a car.
I wouldn’t call it “scary” but I would call the book “tense”. The ending is a surprise. I love this author and looking forward to reading the next one in this series. Highly recomended.
Wow, talk about a story sucking you into it! I couldn’t put it down until I had finished. Fantastic!
A real fun read.
An okay read. More about raising a child by yourself and having a relationship. Took way too long to get into the mystery.
I never finished the book because the characters were not engaging.
I have enjoyed reading these books. They keep you in suspense.
One of the better books I have read this year.
Just couldn’t get into it
I loved the book and went back to buy all the books I could find by this author.
Good read.
This story is filled with snark and sardonic humour. I loved it!
This is a book in a series. I haven’t read the others in the series and I felt like the main character, Emerald, would mention things and I didn’t know what she was talking about. I felt a little left out. As I don’t feel like starting a new series at this time, I feel I didn’t get the full benefit of this story.
This was my least favorite from one of my favorite authors
This series was too short. I wish there were more.
I do not normally like this type of book but the title interested me, I am glad it did, it turned out to have a good plot
I enjoyed this very easy-to-read book. It kept me wondering what was going to happen next.
I have read all these mysteries. She is a great written and keeps the story moving without being boring
