USA TODAY BESTSELLER • The Arizona Vengeance is hockey’s hottest new team. But hockey’s hottest goalie is learning that even the best players sometimes need an assist. “You don’t have to like sports to love these books!”—New York Times bestselling author Jill Shalvis Everything is clicking for the Vengeance. We may be new, but we’re well on our way to winning the championship, and I’m having … on our way to winning the championship, and I’m having the time of my life headlining the sports media as the hottest goalie—hell, player—ever. I for one am going to live up to my name . . . because I am Legend Bay.
Dragging my ass home from the gym, I’m blinded by some gaudy, glowing holiday lights. As usual, my hot-as-hell neighbor Pepper Nantais has gone way over the top. But just as I’m about to tell her off, something else catches my eye . . . Seems like Santa left me a present, and not one I was expecting.
As life takes an unexpected turn, I realize that there’s much more to Pepper than meets the eye. Sure, she’s gorgeous. And exasperating. And her taste in decorating may be a bit . . . unique.
But beneath her carefree demeanor is a fierce determination and a heart of gold. And before I know it I’ve fallen for her. Hard . . .
Pepper is exactly the woman I never knew I needed.

Heart and tenderness are something I wasn’t expecting going in to read this title about Arizona’s premiere hockey goalie and all around tough guy, the “Legend” Bay.
The somewhat uptight, stick in the mud player, that I wanted to learn more about after reading the first two books in this fabulous series, afforded me a glimpse into behind the scenes action of the hockey world and so much more.
Most importantly this book was full of heart and passion. It demonstrated what can transpire in a person’s life when the most unexpected thing possible could happen and how that person’s actions to life’s curve-balls will not only affect them but everyone around them.
This story was full of heated passion, unexpected tenderness, and so much heart. As a reader it was hard to resist Legend as he was revealed to us but even more so the group of support in the Arizona Vengeance hockey family that I only wish I could have by my side.
If you enjoy sports romance and are looking for something with a bit more depth, this book will be your next great read!
As Always, Happy Reading!
“5/5 Beaming Brains!” – Lit-Up My Mind
I have adored every book of Sawyer Bennett’s!
Seriously loved Legend.
Loved how out the gate, it started with a bang.
No slow build. No slow burn.
Legend has been so annoyed with his neighbor Pepper.
When he finds a special delivery on his porch, he panics and enlists Pepper’s help.
This book has sweetness, enemies to lover, neighbor drama and surprise single dad status. And some suspense!
I highly recommend.
PS: I want tracker and Dax’s story, like now!
Sawyer Bennett
On top of being a fantastic love story, we get suspense too! Legend is the goalie of the Vengeance Hockey team, based in Arizona. This is the third installment in Sawyer Bennett’s new Vengeance hockey series. The previous books have been a hoot and this one went above because it also has suspense.
I got a kick out of this couple because this is Legend, who loves order, and his neighbor, Pepper, who has a very flamboyant style of decoration. Every season finds her yard with an excessive decoration, and Legend just hates it. He even complained to the Homeowners Association regarding her exaggerated yard decorations and in retribution, she filled his yard with plastic pink flamingoes! At the start of this book, he arrives and sees Pepper’s Christmas decorations and hits the roof. He’s about to go complain when he finds a bundle at his front door and discovers a baby. There’s a note that informs him the baby is his, so his first instinct is to go get pepper and stammer, baby.
The baby turns out to be a girl, fourteen days old, and is his. In the many arrangements that Legend has to make to accept his daughter into his life, Pepper is at his side, giving him support and advice. Eventually, as they work as a team to help Legend adapt to his new role, they grow closer and this allows Legend to appreciate the many qualities in Pepper.
I loved in this story that the friendship and teamship developed first, and as they grew to love Legend’s baby girl, they grew to love each other. It was a slow developing love and I loved how it went. Initially Legend was against any type of involvement but when he least expected, he was caught and he loved being caught.
The other lovely part of this story is that we get to share some time with old friends from previous books: Bishop, Erik and Dax and we also get to meet the parents. The team’s captain is going through a tragic moment and I’m pretty sure he will be next in the series and I can’t wait to read his story.
Each book in this series just keeps getting better and better!
This book is about Legend Bay, who is the goalie for the Arizona Vengeance. Legend is someone who likes his life to be organized and structured. His next door neighbor, Pepper Nantais is Legend’s complete opposite in pretty much everything. Pepper loves color and creativity and she takes great pleasure in decorating her house and yard with all the things that are sure to drive Legend crazy. All of this changes the one night Legend comes home and finds a very unexpected package on his front doorstep. At first he thinks it’s something that Pepper did to bug him, but when he sees what it actually is, he rushes over to Pepper’s house for some much needed help. The way that these two came together was truly beautiful. I love how Pepper stepped right in to lend Legend a hand with everything and I really loved the way that Legend took to the role of loving father even though he had no idea what he was doing. How can you not fall in love with this man. The chemistry that these two have is off the charts and when they finally realize that they are in love will bring tears to your eyes.
This story is very well written with lots of laughs, love and tears. It is now my favorite book out of this series so far and I can’t wait to read Dax and Tacker’s stories next.
Do you think I could get the author to pay for the manicure to repair all the nail biting that occurred while reading this story?? I know this is a hockey romance. Yet it was so much more:
Enemies to lovers–Legend did not appreciate his neighbor, Pepper’s idea of yard art. I love Pepper!!! She can be my neighbor any time.
Single dad–surprise happy Father’s Day!!!
Suspense, thriller–mom has regrets but doesn’t deal well.
teaser of what is to come–OMG!! how long do I have to wait for Dax’s story. Please, please tell me Tacker will get a book. That boy needs to be saved.
So much packed into 227 pages. Great characters, fantastic story.
Legend is a easygoing, sweet man that takes the surprise waiting on his doorstep very calmly when the first panic has settled. Pepper is a good help for him.
I loved these two together because they are so different but still fit so good together. After reading a little about them in the previous book in this series I looked forward to their story and I was not disappointed.
There’s no unnecessary descriptions of surroundings and plenty of good dialogues.
The storyline is great and I do appreciate the happy ending.
Love scenes with intensity, hotness and sweetness without being distasteful.
All the secondary characters is intriguing to read about and I’m impatiently waiting for their stories.
Bennett manages to build a world that sucks you in and you want to hear all the stories.
I highly recommend reading it if you like hockey romance or any romance.
Professional Athlete
Hockey
Single Dad
Enemies-to-lovers
Legend Bay just came home to find something he never unexpected on his front porch—a baby girl. Now this hockey hunk is faced with the biggest challenge of his life, fatherhood. A fun and sexy enemies-to-lovers hockey romance, Legend is proof that sometimes you really can have it all.
I was excited to get Legend’s and Peppers story. I knew it was going to be a good one. I wasn’t disappointed. I really enjoyed seeing Legend and Pepper come together for a very good reason. The quirky neighbor turns out to be a very good friend to Legend. She’s there for him when he really needs someone. Legend ends up being a really good guy too. I figured he’d be a “player” as in womanizer, not hockey player. He was a stand up guy and good friend. I adored reading this story and look forward to getting more from the guys of the Arizona Vengeance.
This is definitely my favorite Sawyer Bennett book up to date! I’m a sucker for single parent books and this one did not disappoint! I can’t wait to see what’s next for this series!!
Legend Bay’s life changes the night he comes home and finds a baby literally on his doorstep. Confused, shocked and not knowing what to do, he reaches out to his neighbor Pepper. Pepper has been a bit of a thorn for Legend, with her lawn ornaments and bright colors and her bohemian ways. But when Pepper takes one look at Legend, she steps up to help him through this life-changing event.
Pepper’s friendship and support during this trying time for Legend has him looking at Pepper in a different way. They start a “sex-only” relationship as a way to decompress from the serious life changes facing Legend. Of course friends with benefits doesn’t last long as they both start falling for each other in a serious way.
I was totally sucked into this book in the first few pages. It was nice to see a different side of both Legend and Pepper in this book. They just really clicked together for me, and they were so awesome with Charlie, Legend’s new found daughter.
When Charlie’s mother reappears after abandoning her, there’s only trouble for Legend and Pepper. Some big trouble that had me turning the pages at the end to see what was going to happen. My only wish was that I needed more there at the end. The ending seemed a little abrupt to me. I’m hopeful we will get to see Legend and his new family in the upcoming books in the series.
If you like sports romance, Legend has enough sports and romance to keep a reader satisfied.
Another entertaining read from Sawyer Bennett.
An ARC was provided for review.
Legend Bay may be one heck of a goaltender for the Arizona Vengeance, but even he can’t stop his life from being turned upside down when he finds out he’s a dad of a babygirl who needs him in ways that his athletic prowess, his skills between the pipes, and his ability to not allow anything to interfere with his concentration may not completely prepare him for being a single dad as well as a professional hockey player.
Good thing his next door neighbor is willing to help Legend find his way despite his less than friendly attitude about her rather eclectic lawn decorations.
Pepper Nantais is such a fantastic heroine; she’s not intimidated by Legend’s broodiness or his stick-in-the-mud attitude; in fact, she’s all about egging him on and riling him up, but when he needs her the most, she doesn’t hesitate; she’s steps up in unexpected and amazing ways, and while Legend has more than enough on his plate, he can’t help but be mesmerized by his beautiful, funny, intelligent, and bubbly neighbor, so as much as he thinks he has nothing to offer Pepper but ‘fun,’ opening up his heart to his daughter will also allow him to go for something unexpected but something so worthwhile.
Legend is an absolutely swoon worthy hero, especially when his daughter enters his life. He takes on his new ‘normal’ with grace and determination and the fact that he’s not afraid to ask for help when he needs it makes him even more amazing. And regardless of how many times he told himself that he didn’t have anything more to give to Pepper than his body, it’s beyond clear that Legend and Pepper are something special, not only because their chemistry is off-the-charts, but also because their personalities complement each other, offering exactly what the other needs whenever they need it.
Legend is an amazing sports romance with the perfect blend of romance, humor, steam, and drama, and all of those components make for an entertaining and worthwhile read.
There are still so many Vengeance players whose stories need to be told, and I can’t wait to see where Bennett takes these hockey stars and the women who find their way into their lives and their hearts.
4.5 Poison Apples
I loved this series and when Legend and Pepper clashed in the last book I knew their story would be fun to read. My expectations were blown out the water. When Legend finds a bundle of pink on his porch step he freaks out and calls on his neighbor Pepper for help. She steps right up and helps him figure things out. BTW Legend is a natural at being a Dad. I loved that the relationship between this couple had very little angst and the relationship grew naturally. Now the Mother of the baby was another story and I kept waiting to see what she would do next. She was determine to get her baby back. This book can be read as a standalone, but why would you. Awesome series.
Sawyer Bennett has created a fun world with the Arizona Vengeance series and it is so great that we can read the books as an on going novel, since one book connects to the other.
It like the sense of following up these characters and how fun they are.
However, the best part is that each book is a different story and yet you get glimpses of future characters’ arcs.
But, we are here to talk about Legend and Pepper. They are adorable! Legend is a great guy and steps up when needed to take care of his baby daughter and Pepper is such a support for him. She is quirk but has her feet on the ground.
This is a great love story but above all a love story about a family forming not only individuals.
I just loved the book!
O!M!G!!!!! I love this freaking fabulous book!!!! I FLOVE Legend Bay (cough, cough comafugh). Sorry Ladies, did you read Erik yet? You may understand then, and no, I will not say.
Legend is the 3rd book in Sawyer Bennett’s Arizona Vengeance Series. Yes, each book in the series is a “standalone”, but the series is on-going, sort of like a TV series about a family. I really love this, because I get to read about the characters of previous and future books…eek!!!
Legends neighbor is flighty, certainly too flighty for him, just look at are front lawn, and the prank with those pink plastic flamingos!! So, when I get home that night and find a baby on my porch, I head straight to Pepper Nantais’s door for help!
Pepper moves to her own beat. She is an author and illustrator of a popular children’s book series. She also has a heart of gold, and will do absolutely ANYthing for someone she loves, even protect them with her life.
I really enjoyed watching these two (3) grow together, and then, the Charlie factor…. aww. I have to say, my heart was in my throat a few times, especially when Pepper opens her door and……. STOP, no spoilers!!! I do not want to give anything away.
This really is a wonderful story/series about people that just happen to be hockey players.
I FLOVE hockey romance and Ms. Bennett is the reason. I read Zack the 3rd book in her Cold Fury Hockey series and have been hooked on Ms. Bennett’s writing and hockey romance ever since. Thank you, Ms. Bennett for sharing your wonderful talents with your readers!
Thank you for reading my review. Now Ladies, go hit that purchase button, you will not be disappointed!!
i cannot get enough of Sawyer Bennett’s hockey boys!
Legend Bay is a super sexy, super single goalie for the Vengeance…
Pepper Nantais is a beautiful, unique, quirky author…she also happens to be the neighbor to one super hot hockey star!
Legend & Pepper’s story, like most books from this author has tons of feels, ups and downs, sexy times and drama! It has a happily ever after which is a must for me…
I loved this book and series! Highly recommend
Oh sweet baby Jesus! Sawyer has officially done it! She has knocked my socks off and stole my wig! (I’ve been binge watching Drag Race)
Legend is someone I have been waiting for to find out what would happen with him and his neighbor, Pepper… but lordy I was not expecting the curveball Sawyer threw! Sawyer always gives us heroines that don’t back down and can show up with the best of them and this is Pepper to a “T”! She is sassy, witty, strong, and compassionate in the best of ways – which is just what Legend needs when he comes home to a big “little” surprise! I love that even though things happen quickly between Pepper and Legend, they remain true to themselves and one another – fighting for what they want and what is the best for their “family”.
Someone hold my hand for when we finally get to learn more about Tacker! I am holding my breath until that moment I have his story in my hands. I cannot wait to see what else Sawyer has up her sleeve for the Vengeance!
I received a copy via Netgalley and voluntarily left a review and all opinions are my own.
Sawyer Bennett draws readers in more and more with each book in her Arizona Vengeance. She not only has us wrapped up in the arms of her current couple but also keeps us abreast of what her past couples from the series are doing and teases us with future couples. Sawyer has truly made the Arizona Vengeance hockey team feel like they are part of our family. I am always excited to open up her newest book and dive right in and see what all of my favorite characters are up to. After the way Sawyer mercilessly teased us with the push and pull between Legend and Pepper in the second book in the series Erik, I couldn’t wait to read their story and see how the feuding neighbors turn lovers would culminate.
Legend piqued my interest with his rigid, rule oriented persona and I couldn’t wait for the whimsical and kooky Pepper to wear down his defenses and show him that life can be fun, sexy, and a bit on the wild side. But little did I know that Legend was going to show us how kinky and wild he could get. Sawyer surprised me completely with this scrumptious hero and had me singing his praises early on in his story. He struck a powerful chord within me and he will most definitely be a hero that I will have to visit again and again.
If I thought that Sawyer was done pulling surprises out of her magic literary hat, she soon proved me wrong. The more I got to learn about the carefree and quirky Pepper, the more I realized that she is a much deeper heroine than I originally thought with a wide open heart that was more than ready for a person like Legend and all the complications that came along with him. If only we could all be as open minded and giving of ourselves as Pepper, this world would be a better place. She carved a significant place in my heart that will forever remain hers.
Sawyer Bennett delivers a scorching tale with two people that become so significant and profound to each other that you could never imagine them not being together. I highly recommend Legend for a love story that delivers bits of humor, wave after wave of heat, and emotion that you will never forget. I cannot wait for Sawyer Bennett to give us more additions to this hot as hell hockey family and I plan on being front row and center for all the action, feelings, and heat that she delivers in all her stories!
I will admit I have enjoyed this series so far but I feel it doesn’t have as much angst and adventure as the Cold Fury series has. Until now. I’m having a difficult time categorizing this book. Most would say it’s Enemies-to-Lovers, but it’s also single-dad/nanny, kinda. Pepper is not the nanny, but she is the person Legend depends on when it comes to his new daughter.
We knew after reading Erik that these two would be explosive once they got over their “hatred”, but the minute Legend finds a bundle of joy on his doorstep all is forgotten and forgiven. Yes there is mention of their disagreements in the past, but it’s as if it was never a problem, yet we know it was a major problem for him.
I truly enjoyed catching up, however briefly, with Erik and Blue and Bishop and Brooke and seeing their relationships progress. I can’t wait to see more of each of these couples in future books.
Each time I get to learn more about the players on the Vengeance team, the more I love about them! Legend comes home one night to find a baby on his porch. While he had no idea that he was about to become a father and didn’t plan on becoming one for a while, he was so amazingly sweet and adorable when it came to his child.
His funky neighbor, Pepper, who he loved to hate and drove him crazy, was the first person he turned to when he needed help. Watching Pepper step in and help him and then become more, was fun to watch.
When the baby mama appears and then the drama that unfolds made me cry. It was so well written to see someone realize that she’s not well and she doesn’t like feeling like this had me sobbing. I’m so glad it didn’t get worse in this story. But I digress, Pepper and Legend are great together. They make an immediate team when she wasn’t even friends with him and the baby just makes you melt.
Another great read – I can’t wait for Tacker though!
Legend and Pepper are just too cute! I love how this series just keeps building with each character like it’s one continuous story… Bishop, Erik, Legend. This story is a sort of enemy to lovers kind of story where Legend was not the biggest fan of Pepper, but truly finds out that she’s the perfect match for him when he goes through a new life adventures! Along the way, you learn more about Dax and Tacker (hope they get their stories too)!!
Another great story by Sawyer Bennett filled with fun, romance, drama, love, and suspense. You won’t be able to stop reading because you want to see how Legend accepts his new life and Pepper in it!
