We’re in this together—lie for lie, truth for truth. We’ve both been damaged by our pasts, both terrified of building a future…Still, there’s a sliver of hope for the both of us—if one of us is willing to fold first. He’s the king of lies, I’m the queen, and together we’re going to build one hell of a legacy…*This is the final installment in the Empire of Lies trilogy. *
This review is for all 3 books, since I can’t really recall where one ends, and the others begin.
First off, Michael was hot AF, even though he had some serious issues. It seemed like it would be easy to not like him, but for me it was quite the opposite. Guess it’s that bad boy attraction. Meredith has her own issues, too.
The way Michael and Meredith meet and subsequently “date” seems like this story is going to be a romantic comedy; something similar to some of Whitney’s other books. That isn’t the case, but that’s all I’ll say.
This story has a lot of twists and unexpected turns. Although the content was kind of heavy, the story read fairly light and quick. Some of the events are a bit far fetched, but that’s what makes it a good story. Romance reading is pure fantasy for me, and I suspend reality when I dive into a story. As you get to know Michael, you realize you don’t really know him. He’s not easily forgettable, that’s for certain.
This series is definitely different from what Whitney usually writes about. It was a passion project she wrote for herself, and I really enjoyed it. I love her other books, but I hope she continues to get out of her box with different material like this.
The man I fell in love with is a f*cking liar…
I don’t have much time to reveal all the details, but I will say this: The “Woman disappears after wedding” and “Woman flees before honeymoon” headlines are lying. I’m not missing.I didn’t run away after my wedding. I would’ve never run away right before our scheduled honeymoon.
My husband has taken me. Well once again I am so glad that I didn’t listen to the reviews on this book because it was brilliant, such a well written and thought out and addictive story line, with so many twists and turns, drama, sex, lies that it will make your head spin. The characters were perfect together with so much chemistry and heat the book was scorching hot. This was such a great read that I just read one after the other so I will be giving them all this review.
I’m so glad I read these books! Whitney drug me out of a 2 month book funk with these books, I couldn’t put them down!
OK 2.5
I know it wasn’t a mushy romance but more information and a little character depth could still be used.
I liked there story through.
I really enjoyed this trilogy. Michael wasn’t your typical hero. He definitely wasn’t a nice guy. He was hired to kill Meredith, but fell in love with her instead. Meredith fell for him too, but she didn’t really know the real him. He saved her life, but in doing so he had to leave her. Or so he thought. Turns out Michael couldn’t stay away from Meredith. And after all the truths are told these two find a way to be together. This series was action packed and full of suspense. I devoured it as quickly as I could. I really enjoyed seeing a darker side to this author.
I thought this was a great conclusion to Michael and Meredith’s story.
The main thing I wish is that it could have been a full-length and slightly longer book. Splitting it into three parts, into novella-length chunks, broke up the continuity in the story. The final book felt a bit rushed and pushed forward into the future very quickly. It’s four stars overall from me because I liked the main plot of the story and where the the author took the story. The author wanted to write something different to her usual genre, and this whole story could have been much deeper and more developed.
If you’re looking for a story that is sexy, has mystery and suspense, and a touch of darkness, this trilogy is a fairly quick read.
Legacy of Lies is the third book of the Empire of Lies Trilogy, an amazing Dark Romantic Suspense. The story continues where the last book ended. Medredith and Michael’s story is suspenseful, fast-paced, intriguing, and captivating. This is a great ending to their story. I love the characters and the storyline. I will certainly read this trilogy again. I would love to have Trevor’s story. Looking forward to read Sinful Saints Trilogy. I need more!
Not what I was expecting and it was kind of hard getting into it, totally different than what I’m used to with this author.
Good conclusion not your typical romance. I enjoyed all three books in one setting I hope Trevors story is written soon. Whit books.
I completely binged this series in one go. I loved the chemistry between Michael and Meredith, it’s hot! So many twists in this series, twinged with darkness but Legacy of Lies was a perfect conclusion for the couple. It’s definitely worth the read!
Revenge is caustic. And this couple, Michael and Meredith, hired killer and less-than-saint victim, hit the roof and blast through it in their passion and retribution.
The final part in this serial pays off on all the gritty, hateful, suspenseful promises. I had to believe that Michael wouldn’t punish Meredith with his cruel indifference forever.
At first, the separation is excruciating. They are both dealing with their present lives and it’s not really working for either of them. I loved it as they crash together again in the middle of a bloody danger and with lethal skills in action. Meredith never gives up and Michael has never met anyone like her. They share some truths which rattle them. And I really enjoyed a glimpse into the past as an important recollection of their happy times is narrated.
Is there reconciliation? You bet there is, but in dark-alley style with hard words, steamy claiming and ugly plans.
Everything and more that I was hoping for happens in this conclusion. Unbridled passion, machiavelian vengeance, and a lifestyle that would bring a smile to Corleone’s face. Completely satisfied.
Though I am a little puzzled with twin brother Trevor and his own story. Isn’t all that a bit unfinished? I think he demands his story to be told 😉
Legacy of Lies by Whitney G. is the final book in the Empire of Lies series. The conclusion to Michael and Meredith’s twisted tale. One filled with betrayal, trauma, deceit but one that finally ends with these two working their way back to each other despite all the messed up things that happened between them. I enjoyed the series. I liked that the books were split into a trilogy. In smaller bites without having to wait too long in between releases. I liked the overall dark side that Michaels and his brother are immersed in and the limits they have even while being depraved and murderey. If you don’t mind dark and extreme and something a little beyond what we expect in the normal reality of our lives then this series is for you – please read them in order. Enjoy!
Legacy of Lies is the conclusion to a three book series. I’m not a fan of series and duets but for Whitney G I will read it. This was a departure from the authors usual writings. It was a bit darker. Maybe not as dark as it was intended. It’s more of a charcoal gray. I feel that is because it is the author’s first attempt at dark. The writing was still Whitney G so I kept reading even on parts of the book that dragged. A little fine tuning and her next walk on the dark side should be perfect.
The characters were good. A character is only as good as the script so they weren’t as in depth as she usually produces but they likeable.
For the most part the plot was smooth and stayed together. There were some places where it dragged but if you keep going it always picks back up.
All and all, I feel it was a great first attempt at dark. It’s not easy for any author to change their style completely because it’s like a fingerprint. I applaud Whitney G for adding to her repertoire. I am looking forward to more charcoal gray Whitney G. Maybe not a series but a standalone that can be expanded later. Just a thought.
There is a HEA and that made me very happy. 😉
The third and final book in this suspenseful trilogy is here and it does not disappoint! What will happen to Michael and Meredith? With how things left off in Queen of Lies can Meredith finally discover the full truth? Will Michael truly be able to be redeemed? So many twists and suspense you have to see what happens. A great dark romantic suspense. Michael is a true anti hero. Told in dual POV
Ah-may-zing!!! Love, love, love Whitney’s books. This story was just another awesome book in this series. I devoured it in one sitting and look forward to more great books by Whitney.
I devoured Legacy of Lies in one sitting. It was awesome. There were twists, turns and sexy times. I enjoyed Meredith and Michael’s journey and recommend it.
