In Lisa Genova’s “New York Times” bestselling novel–and Academy Award-winning film–of resilience in the face of a devastating diagnosis, a vibrant mother in her thirties learns what matters most in life when a car crash leaves her with a traumatic brain disorder called “left neglect.” Sarah Nickerson, like any other working mom, is busy trying to have it all. One morning while racing to work … work and distracted by her cell phone, she looks away from the road for one second too long. In that blink of an eye, all the rapidly moving parts of her over-scheduled life come to a screeching halt. After a brain injury steals her awareness of everything on her left side, Sarah must retrain her mind to perceive the world as a whole. In so doing, she also learns how to pay attention to the people and parts of her life that matter most.
In this powerful and poignant “New York Times” bestseller, Lisa Genova explores what can happen when we are forced to change our perception of everything around us. “Left Neglected” is an unforgettable story about finding abundance in the most difficult of circumstances, learning to pay attention to the details, and nourishing what truly matters.

WOW! What an amazing book!
I do have to say that this was a tough book for me to read. There just was so much emotion there, and SO much information to try and process. You really get sucked into the story and how she struggles with EVERYTHING we daily take for granted, especially the relationships we have all around us.
I am sure that at some …
A remarkable story, deftly told by author and neuroscientist Lisa Genova, author of the impressive Still Alice. I learned a ton about a condition I’d never even heard of, but the informing was done in the course of a story peopled with characters I really cared about. The prose flows beautifully and the characters develop with a skill any novelist …
Wow good book
I loved Still Alice, so I tried this one and liked it as well. I was amazed that this is a real brain disorder. The main character could be any one of us. A very interesting read. Check out the synopsis.
Lisa Genova is a great author; she is a real-life accomplished neuroscientist and it makes her books even more realistic.
She is well known for her book “Still Alice” which was made into a movie, but ‘Left Neglected’ is a great read because it changes your perception on what really maters in life and what you can change, or not!
It is that one …
I have never read a Lisa Genova book that I did not love. This one is no exception. So well written. A great read.
Sarah Nickerson has that perfect life most woman dream of. She had a well driven career, loving husband, kids. In one single action that life she once knew was gone. This is a story about overcoming obstacles and taking time for you.
LEFT neglected was the perfect title for this book in my mind. After the accident Sarah could not see or feel …
Although this book was published in 2011, the theme of the effects of life-changing brain trauma is still very poignant. A happy, high-powered, smart business woman’s life skids to a halt – literally and metaphorically – after a nearly-fatal motor vehicle accident. As she re-learns basic, everyday tasks, she also learns new insights about her life …
Another great ready by Lisa Genova Love here books they are both informative and entertaining. This one makes you really think about the life you are living and consider the life you want to live. To think about living your life with out the function of one side is hard to imagine, but imagine that that side exists and works, but you can’t see it …
I read this book a few years ago and it’s one I’ll probably re-read again because it was so good! For such a grim subject, I loved the way the author added humor and spirit to the main character’s POV. My favorite book of Lisa G’s so far.
I was not familiar with this brain disorder called “left neglect”. A traumatic car accident leaves Sarah with a brain injury that steals her awareness of her left side. It’s hard to imagine a person not being aware of one side of her body but Lisa Genova is able to draw you in as Sarah navigates a new world. She must retrain her brain and learn …
I read everything she writes. She explains the condition that the book focus on so that you can understand it and the ramifications of it. Every story is compelling. I pass on the books I’ve finished reading but hers I keep to read again.
Great book! An inspiration to mothers everywhere!
Unusual medical condition explained in a realistic yet challenging way
The author never disappoints. She is very adept at providing descriptions that make it possible for the reader to feel difficult concepts, such as “left neglect.” I have read every book she has had published and continuously check to see she has a new one out.

Lisa is a wonderful writer and this is a masterpiece.
Lisa Genova does an excellent job of communicating the effects of devastating diseases through her fictional stories. She does this with finesse.
Almost as good as Still Alice!!
I had no idea this could happen.
