Another great book by Jessica Gadziala!! This one hit really close to home. Having a drug addict for a brother in law is very tough. And the worst part about it all is he became that way the same exact way as Bethany did in this book and so many others in real life. It all started with the doctor. 18 doctors in our area were arrested and license’s stripped a few years ago for illegally pushing pain pills to people who didn’t really need them. Ok I’m getting away from the book here but like I said it hit close to home and I can totally relate with this book. Lazarus being a recovering addict knew what Beth was going to go through and what to expect and I really loved that about them. Their beginning wasn’t all hearts and flowers. It was completely ugly and they stuck through that. Bethany found her people in the amazing Girl’s club. People to lift her up when she never really had that. I just really enjoyed this book.
5 Sobering Stars
Wow just wow what a start for the new Pups! So many secondary characters in this book that I just can’t wait to hear about! Pagan especially, so intrigued by him.
Lazarus was a great start to this new era of Henchmen. What a sweetheart, so laid back and really just wanting the best for his club. He was like a gentle giant, with his tough outer demeanour and scarred hands, to his gentle way he handles Beth. I think I have a new favourite Henchmen ek!
“This wasn’t some meet-cute. This wasn’t some cheesy as fuck love at first sight. This was the familiar, ice cold sensation of dread filling my veins as my stomach plummeted. This wasn’t pretty. This wasn’t the stuff of fairy tales.”
Bethany thinks that she is not worthy of anyone’s love and that life has kicked her in the ass one time to many. She doesn’t set out to over dose but that’s what happens. She really didn’t think she had that much of a problem. She’s degusted with herself and feels she doesn’t deserve anything better.
The way these two end up together is no met-cute but it is a page turner and I couldn’t put it down! Love Jessica’s work and this book is no different. This story sucked me in from the beginning. It was raw, yet sweet and I completely loved reading Laz and Beth’s story
I’m rereading the whole series for the 2nd time
ღ If you are fan of this series you mostly were like me…I was dying to know more about Lazarus.
Renny called them pups, they are the new Prospect .. Here we start a new chapter in the Henchmen
Lazarus over size giant with the heart of gold. This man been though a lot being an ex-addict was hard on him
Now we can find out more about Lazarus back story
Bethany is breath of fresh air for Lazarus, & women who thinks she is unworthy of anyone’s love & the secrets that will have your heart breaking in two
In between there are few twisted & turn, but if there weren’t it wouldn’t be one of Jessica Gadziala books
Omg we also get to see some of Pagan & Edison dark side
Honestly I don’t know who book I want read more Edison, Cyrus or Pagan… I guess Jessica Gadziala made that decision for us
On to the next book Pagan
Hope you enjoy this read & also always keep in mind this is just my opinion & my honest review
Paulette Review
Laz is the sweetest and most understanding man. He will make you melt with his sweet ways. Glad he gets to give all that sweetness to Bethany.
Lazarus, who is one of the new probies of the Henchmen, story is a bit different than the previous ones in the series. It deals with the ugly side of addiction (not that there is a pretty side to it) and the fight to get clean and stay sober.
First I have to say its so hard to remove your person feelings about something you’ve been apart of for over 26 years. How a person gets clean is different for every person. What works for one may not work for another. At the core its all about the demons inside you – the events that happened in your life to push you to need that mood altering, numbing substance just to deal with life. For some even after they have removed the drugs or alcohol from their system their will to live may not come back. I have personally known a few and they are not of this world anymore sadly. How Lazarus chose to get sober is one of the hardest and dangerous. I have to say if anyone reads this book and is struggling with addiction to please reach out and get help and figure out the best way for YOU.
As I stated before its hard for me to review this book without putting in personal feelings. Fictionally speaking Lazarus ended up defying the odds against him and beat his addiction and when he saw Bethany in the same predicament he had been in years before he couldn’t just walk away from this woman lying in an ally OD-ing. These two strangers had a common bond in addiction that morphed into a caring supportive relationship. The new Probies were front in center in this book – Edison, Cyrus, Reeve and a new one that comes from Ross’s fighting guys and they certainly are colorful characters that should have very interesting stories when we get them.
I did love the story of Lazarus and Bethany if that didn’t come across above. I’ve loved every story from this author and the last two books she has written have been so different as they delved into real life issues – mental illness and addiction. She never ceases to surprise me with the stories she comes up with.
