Flying the friendly skies has been more than just a job to me. It’s my home. Ten years ago I ran away from everything I’ve known and vowed never to return. That is, until my flight is cancelled due to weather, and I’m stuck in San Francisco. Fate is not on my side when I end up in an Uber ride share with the one man I thought I’d never see again. Zack Hunt was my high school sweetheart, and the … school sweetheart, and the boy I walked away from without a note saying goodbye. Except, he’s no longer a boy. No, this man is gorgeous, intense, and heated at the sight of me.
The anger searing off him is nothing compared to the way my heart pounds from seeing him again. Words are said. Feelings are crushed. But when he invites me in to his bar to hash out our past, I find myself following him in, desperate for more.
The line between past and present is blurred when Zack challenges me to a dare—come back home with him to see what I walked away from.
Call me a glutton for punishment, but I do.
Then I challenge him right back to live a day in my shoes.
We drive home to rediscover the past
We fly abroad to live in the present.
When we stop moving, we realize we may never have a future.
Layover Lover is a second chance romance, aligned by fate. Can two lost souls really find love again on a layover? Or do they need to keep flying?

This was a fun read and a cool spin on the whole childhood sweethearts going their separate ways – one to travel the world and one to stay at home. There was definite animosity when they reconnect 10 years later, but plenty of sexual tension and heat too and when they finally gave in…WHOAH! I loved Zach and his devotion to his family. I loved that he called Jolene on out stuff too, even if it meant risking losing her. I didn’t always understand Jolene’s reasons to run, at least not in the way she did, but she won me over in the end when she finally realised what she was missing out on. Stella was also a great side character, who added some lighter moments.
Overall, this was a great book – loved the sneak look at Carter from Playboy Pilot too – and would definitely recommend!
I’m new to both authors, but I really enjoyed their writing style. I love a good second chance at love story and we get that with Jolene and Zack. Loved that even after a decade of no contact, the chemistry is still just as strong between them as it was the first time they were a couple. They were each other’s firsts, and while I didn’t think it was cool the way Jolene left, the more we get to know her, the more I could understand and really embrace Jolene’s character.
Of course as they spend time together, feelings begin to deepen and I couldn’t wait to see how things would play out for them and a possible chance at a HEA, especially since their lives couldn’t be any more opposite than what they are. And the epilogue was fantastic, and after finishing this story I was left wondering why in the world I’ve not read any of their books before, but I’m gonna rectify that immediately!
Best book yet in the CHC series. Jeannine Colette and Lauren Runow hit it out of the ballpark to the sky in this amazing second chance book. If I could give it more than 5 Stars I would. There was so many emotions you felt.
Zack and Jolene were each other’s firsts for everything, friends to lovers. The Small Town couple. Then tragedy strikes and at age 18 Jolene runs away from everyone. After 10 years and an unexpected co-Uber ride Zack and Jolene meet again and it’s fireworks again. You don’t know if they want to rip each other’s clothes or head off. Needless to say she leaves again and I wish Stella would pop her one good time for breaking Zack’s heart over and over!
I don’t want to say anymore about the book except to R-U-N and R-E-A-D it. You will Love the story and all the characters and you will laugh, swoon, tear up, get angry, fall in love and hot damn will you heat up.
A perfect second chance at love, beautifully written. This book was one heck of an emotional roller coaster, so be prepared. That’s the only thing I’m going to give you about this book because you just have to read it.
A slightly different kind of second chance romance, this one is a total must read.
I love how well Jeannine and Lauren’s writing styles mesh and flow so nicely together. I feel in love with Jo and Zack. I’m a sucker for second chance romances and Layover Lover is the perfect book and has the perfect characters to make my heart pitter patter.
What a wonderful book in this series. Second chance at love is my favorite and this one did not disappoint with the drama, heartbreak, and the emotional roller coaster. I loved it from beginning to end.
It was a dark and foggy night…Fate or kismet was the only explanation for flight attendant Jolene having to share an Uber with the man that she walked away from 10 yrs ago. Having been forced to layover in San Francisco due to bad weather, Jolene had planned to spend the night at a friend’s house. Then a busted eardrum grounds her and she gets to play catch-up with Zach. The bittersweet memories that were invoked as well as time lost, will leave you teary. Beautiful and well written story. A definite re-read for me.
You know it must be fate if you get into a ride-share Uber with the ex-boyfriend you left 10 years back! This beautiful second chance romance holds so many feels from anger, disappointment, sorrow, fear to passionate love between our heroine, Jolene, and our Hero, Zack. Tragic circumstances launched Jolene toward her goal to travel, but the consequence was leaving her boyfriend behind due to his family. The story is told from both Zack and Jolene’s points of view so we feel the heartbreak each of them endured, and the internal struggle each must overcome if their fates are meant to be together again. Beautiful storytelling by this author team!
Loved this books so much! Love Jolene and Zack’s story!! Small town/second chance romance – amazing!! I love how this story flowed- the connection of the characters…. understand their history and how they grew up in 10 years apart. And how they got to happily ever after.
Jolene left Zack when they were 18. She’s been away for 10 years and they meet up in an Uber. I loved their reconnection. Lauren Runow and Jeannine Colette give readers a book with all the feels!!
Jolene is a flight attendant. She ends up being struck for a couple of days where she doesn’t want to be. She ends up running into an old love in the uber she is taking to her friends house. Zack talks her into joining him at a local bar. But will these two be able to put behind the past? Jolene ends up getting grounded for 96 hours. So Zack talks her unto going back home. A place she hasn’t been in a long time. Jolene finds out that Zack was keeping something huge from her. And when she finds out it is shocking but will it stop her from being in his life? This was a page turner. It was enjoyable and I loved Jolene and Zack. These two had a past that they had to overcome and a lot was in the way of their happiness. Highly recommend.
I love the mix between the fast paced life of Jolene the fast-paced flight attendant and Zack, her small-town, high school love. I loved their “fate” meeting and the hometown walk through memory lane. Jolene got pass through in Zack’s current world and he was able to experience Jolene’s. Their chemistry maybe faded a little, but it didn’t take much to pick back up. I really enjoyed this story.
A second chance romance with unexpected twists and great storyline. Loved these characters.
Jeannine Colette and Lauren Runow have written a sweet second chance love story about Zack and Jolene. I loved this read from the very get go when these two first see each other to the very ending when I wanted their story to keep going. And the everything in-between is what made this such a wonderful story line and great addition to the Cocky Hero Club. Plus we get to see a small tie-in to the Sexton brothers series that these two authors co-wrote.
Jolene left the small town of Dixon, CA, as soon as she turned 18, without a backward glance. She had lost everything she held dear except her high school lover, Zach, who refused to leave. His parents needed him and he didn’t feel the wanderlust pull Jolene did. So, without a note or a goodbye, she took off. Figured she’d never see him again.
Ten years later, Jolene is a Flight Attendant, whose flight is grounded in San Francisco. What are the odds that she would end up in an Uber share with an all grown up more handsome than ever Zack? An angry but still beautiful Zack. And when he asks her to get off at the bar he owns to give each other the answers to questions each may have, she does. There is still this tremendous amount of chemistry between them and as they find out more about the years apart and the reasons behind Jolene leaving, they gain more peace and understanding.
Zack takes care of her with a medical problem and she has more time off. As they are together, going back to Dixon, talking, memories return and and they feel what they were to each other and why they could never find anyone else to measure up. The sexual tension is off the charts and and I was cheering for them to get their act together! They belonged together like no one’s business!! Bringing Austin into the book was cool, too! And also Zack’s surprise, I wasn’t real happy at first but I warned up. The Hummingbird *sigh* I love the reference! Them getting their HEA was everything! This book had all the feels!!!
This is such a great book by this amazing duo, I love everything they write. I loved the Sexton Brothers, but I have to say, I think this one is my new favorite! The Epilogue was great, and especially the Bonus Epilogue! I am such a lover of Epilogues! Ten Amazing Stars!
This is my first read by both of these authors, and I can’t wait to read more from both. This second chance romance gave me all the feels. I fell completely in love with Jolene and Zack.
Jeannine and Lauren are a duo that I have become to love! I was a huge fan of Jeannine’s, then she started to co-write with Lauren and they brought magic to the paper. Layover Lover is no exception!!! I have become addicted and I was sure that these characters were just go on their separate ways. What I did not expect was the fire in these characters. They were ready for the fight! I could not put this book down and never had any intention to do so until the very last word was read! Friends you have to get this book! It is surely to become a favorite!!!
LAYOVER LOVER, by the talented duet authors Jeannine Colette & Lauren Runow, is a delightful second-chance romance. There is a lot of heartache and missed time in the ten years they were apart. But fate puts them together in the backseat of a shared Uber car. Maybe finally giving them a chance to get answers and closure.
Jolene Davies and Zack Hunt were high school sweethearts that were deeply in love. They thought they would be together forever. They grew up in the small town of Dixon. It is over an hour drive from San Francisco. In Dixon everyone knows everybody else. And gossip is the main entertainment. When unforeseen tragedy hits this young couple, it is Jolene that runs away, without even a goodbye. This leaves Zack as a stoic hero who was badly wronged. Jolene was the hated town villain. After ten years pass by, they both thought they would never see each other again.
Fate can be fickle. When they both need a Uber ride home from the San Francisco airport, after ten years they come face to face. Their mutual shock and Zach’s anger made this reunion a difficult one. They are different adult people. She is a flight attendant who has traveled the world and he is a bar owner. He also helps his dad in his auto shop, and still calls Dixon home. Dixon is a place Jolene swore she would never return to. Never say never! This makes for quite a story. One thing hasn’t changed and that is their attraction and feelings for each other.
This would be a good story to read if you need a break from our present quarantined world. Today you wouldn’t even be able to share an Uber car to begin with. You could not travel the way Jolene had done: “I’ve seen almost every major city in the United States. Been to Paris, Rome, Munich and London. I walked the Great Wall of China and rode an elephant in Thailand. Scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef and the sunset in Fiji was heavenly.” They both looked forward to seeing the Northern Lights. Zach’s busy bar would now be closed. If you want to enjoy a story without the Coronavirus, then here is a getaway book for you. I enjoyed it!
Layover Lover is one of the stories in the Cocky Hero Club inspired by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward’s Cocky Bastard series. This second chance romance was a sweet, easy read and you will love the characters Jolene and Zach. After not seeing each other for 10 years, the chemistry between them was still evident when they did meet again and it only strengthen the more time they spent together. This is a story about letting go of the past and looking forward to the future, about second chances and about realizing everyone has dreams and sometimes those dreams change. The story was a quick read and I enjoyed it. It was a good addition to the Cocky hero Club and I would recommend it to all lovers of second chance romance.
Layover Lover is part of the Cocky Hero Club series and is by Jeannine Colette and Lauren Runow. This is my first time reading anything by Jeannine and only my second from Lauren. I previously read her book Day One and I fell in love with her writing.
Jolene Davies is a flight attendant. Ten years ago, she fled from her small town and from the boy she loved, to live a life of travel and adventure. She had succeeded in doing this. She’d traveled all over the world and seen and done wonderful things. Now she’s in San Francisco, her flight canceled, and stranded. One Uber rideshare gone wrong and Jo finds herself face to face with the boy, now a man, whose heart she broke all those years ago. And he doesn’t seem too happy to see her either.
Ten years ago, Zack Hunt lost the love of his life. He struggled for a long time after Jo left him. But now he has a busy and successful life in San Francisco running his bar and going home to help his dad a couple of days a week. But when Zack hopped into that Uber and saw her, he was both furious and thrilled. Finally, after ten long years, he was going to get some answers.
“This is the Zack I remember. The guy who never gave up on me, stood by my side until I got it right.”
I loved these two. They were each other’s first everything. I have to admit that at first, I wanted to dislike Jolene. I thought, how selfish she must have been to leave Zack like that. But then I got to know her better, and her story slowly unfolded, and I fell in love with her. And oh my, then there is Zack. All swoony and tough and sweet and sexy and just amazing.
These two had chemistry that never waned, even after all the years that passed. The more time they spend together, the more their previous bond strengthened. They are living in the moment, getting to know each other as adults, not as the kids they previously were.
No matter how much they love each other, though, their lives are polar opposites. Zack lives in San Francisco. And Jo spends the biggest part of her life in the air. Zack’s life is tied to his family, his responsibilities, his bar. Jolene’s life is her work, her freedom, her travels. How can these two lives ever merge?
There isn’t much I didn’t love about this book. There was no unnecessary angst. Just two people who accepted the life they were living, not really realizing what was missing until they found it again. Two people clearly meant to be together. I loved everything about this. It was sexy, sweet and swoony. I have to mention the amazing epilogue as well. I am an epilogue junkie and this one was just perfect! I most definitely look forward to reading more by either of these authors.
