Can a fling with the world’s hottest rock star become real love?I took a few days to search my soul and, in the process, I found him.Chance Santos. He’s charming. Drop dead gorgeous. In his arms, I’m rediscovering who I am. And who I want to be.We’re a fleeting moment in time. An erotic madness. He’s much too young. Too spontaneous. The opposite of everything that I thought was right for me.He’s … everything that I thought was right for me.
He’s also everything I never knew my heart craved.
Logic screams for me to walk away.
But I can’t.
Is one amazing weekend enough for forever?

This book is HOT. I wasn’t too sure about an older woman and a younger rock star. Mostly because I kept putting myself in her place and thinking there’s no way I would date someone that young. But eventually, I kind of forgot about the age difference in this story. It’s just that good! My only complaint is that there wasn’t more!
Also… my husband who is NOT a reader, was whining that he was bored. I handed him my old Kindle and said “Read this!”. He finished it (which is shocking in and of itself), and asked for MORE!
I don’t normally read younger guy/older woman, rock star or instant chemistry books but I was intrigued by this book so I decided to read a few pages and decide whether I wanted to continue or not. Needless to say, I was hooked from the beginning. Layla’s story resonated with me as she was passed over for a promotion that she felt she deserved and had earned…….she took a weekend to find herself and in the process found her soulmate. Some times in life you just go through the motions and exist but Layla’s story reminds us all that we have 1 life to live….do the things you want to do, see the things you want to see, be with the person you want to be with……don’t just exist…LIVE! Take a chance on Layla’s story….you might just find your next 5 star read like I did!
A song coming to life.
This was a novella? It superseded so many problems I often encounter in novellas. It captured depth and real emotion, turmoil and compromise, real talking and figuring things out, all among a beautiful love story. Yes, it was quite instant, but it felt like that lighting strike moment between these two from so different worlds, creating a beautiful song together.
4.5 stars
For a novella, this had so much feeling and depth. Add in plenty of sexy times, a hero and heroine that are well developed, and you’ve got the makings for an amazing read.
I loved reading about Layla and Chance. While their relationship starts off fast and their time together is limited, this wasn’t really an over the top insta-love romance. It’s more like an insta-let’s-see-where-this-thing-goes thing. That in itself was refreshing.
Layla’s character was deeper and heavier than that of Chance. Then again, we are only given her point of view up until the very end. I think that helped to fully develop this story as it was focused on what was going on with them and how she was reacting to it. I really liked her and the way she handled her issues. This isn’t a fairytale where everything just automatically falls into perfect glittering place. There were hard choices that had to be made and I respected her for the struggle she experienced making them.
As stated, we don’t have Chance’s view point so it was harder to get a full picture of where he was emotionally. However, he was pretty straight forward about what he wanted, what he felt, and what he could and could not do. Despite his rock star status he was not a player by any means. He pulled me in with his easy way and his fierce desire for Layla as well as his decision to allow Layla to make the ultimate decision without pressuring her.
This older woman/younger man story was fast paced with the feel of a fuller story due to the beautiful prose layered throughout. Secondary characters are minimal due to the length, but we do get a bit of a peek at a couple of our favorites from previous books. Overall, this was a really good read and a great choice if you’re looking for something between lengthier reads.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Heroine POV with Epilogue in Hero’s POV
Layla finds out she was not made a partner in the law firm she has dedicated her life to for years, on her 40th birthday. She decides she needs to get away, and flies to Martha’s Vineyard for the weekend. She literally runs into a guy, (Chance) on the street. You can feel the chemistry and connection just bouncing off of them from this first encounter. They later see each other at a club and dance, and she leaves with him. Unbeknownst to her, Chance is the lead singer of a rock band. She figures this out the next day. She is also torn because he is 27 and she is 40. However, Chance is drawn to her because she likes HIM and not his rock star self. He knows he wants to be with her, but it’s hard convincing her. Chance is very focused and goes after what he wants, and he knows he wants to give them a chance for love. They do spend the day together, and it is a day Layla never wants to forget. Layla has had a lot of tragic things happen in her life, and she has always had to be focused and take care of herself. Can she give up her law career, and follow her heart and be with Chance? You need to read the book to find out. If you believe in instant chemistry, don’t mind an older woman/younger guy scenario – then you should definitely try this. Honestly read it even if those aren’t your thing. The characters and writing in this book is so good, it might make you rethink what you do and don’t like. If only all of us could find a Chance to be in our life. Who wouldn’t want a love song written for/about them?
oh my this book is so captivating .. i love Layla and chance so much their chemistry is amazing …love the way you could feel the emotion of the character and seem has you could feel their emotion ,, i hope we get to read more of these characters .. it a must read book ,,hurry and get this book you wont regret it
I want a Chance. Gorgeous, attentive, a little daring. And he can write you a song…and sing it too. Sign me up! There’s nothing wrong with an older woman/younger man story. She’s hesitant but he makes her feel desired and not only sexy, but beautiful. I loved that even though Layla was a little older, she was still trying to find herself and her passion. Loved it!
Layla is a smart and independents woman. When she gets passed for a work opportunity she decides to go to Martha’s Vineyard to reset.
It is there that she meets Chance. He is a rockstar that also has his head on his shoulders. Although there is an age difference ( older woman /younger man) he knows she is it for him. Her insecurities hold her back from his instalove but it was sweet and mature how they handled each other.
For a novella this was a well written and complete story. Loved the setting of the Vineyard and these real and amazing characters.
I received a copy of this book and this is my honest review.
Layla is on a break from work. Well just for the weekend. She runs to Marthas vineyard to think about her next step. Layla has a encounter with a stranger. Then she sees him again. She has no idea who he is. Chance is a famous musician. But he just wants a day with Layla where he isn’t someone famous. These 2 are great together, even thogh Layla has hangups about the age difference. I really enjoyed this story. A must read.
Gorgeously written rock star romance! A sexy, sweet, romantic younger man/older woman read. Layla and Chance are such a sweet couple! Loved the sizzling chemistry between a younger man and an older woman!
Wow wasn’t to sure how I would like a book about a young guy and an older women but the way the author told the story , I was hooked. It touched so many everyday things you hear now in life and reading it on paper was a wow factor for me. Finding who you really are and not worrying about what people might think, these are truly life problems today. I have to give it to the author to keep the story full of very interesting things and making us feel everything they both are going through.. Couldn’t put the book down…
Can anything good happen when you take a chance… on a younger man, that also happens to be a rock star? That is the question for Layla and the answer is yes. An older woman.younger man rock star novella that reads more like a full story. I enjoyed both the emotional depth of the story and the richness of the characters in this book. I felt connected right from the start. Definitely worth a read.
Love Laylas chance. Such good change in a love story. This time around shes older. You wouldnt want to date a rockstar. Great book.
this was my 1st book by Ms Jolie. Layla’s Chance was a quick fast paced love story. Layla and Chance stumbled a pond each other and fate even though Layla doesn’t believe in fate(haha) got involved and showed Layla that there really is love out there and it just so happened to be by chance.
Layla Benedict is 40 years old and is a lawyer working for the law firm of Harrison & Crane. When she is overlooked for a promotion that is given to the girl she has been mentoring for the past 5 years she knows she needs to get away.
Chance Santos is used to women falling at his feet but when Layla doesn’t recognize him, he decides to take an opportunity to get to know her more. He doesn’t let her know who he is and he doesn’t want to scare her off and wants to spend as much time with her as he can.
But when Layla figures out who he is and how much younger he is than her will she back off and head back home without giving Chance a fair shot?
This was such a good book and I enjoyed it from start to finish!
I completely understood Layla’s frustration at the beginning of the book and how she worked so hard for the promotion to only get overlooked for a younger model. I was super proud of her for escaping and taking time for herself and then letting loose which seemed out of character for her.
Chance was super interesting as he seemed to really dislike the fame that went with his job and he took a chance with Layla when she liked him for him and not the rock star he was. I also liked that he was super mature for his age and knew what he wanted.
There were definitely some obstacles in the way for Layla and Chance as she wasn’t happy that he was famous and that she was older than him. There was so much chemistry between them but you could tell how afraid Layla was with having her life so in control up to this point but you could also tell she wasn’t happy but was afraid on what to do with that.
I loved the song and it made me super sad how Layla reacted and what happened next.
The end was really good and it made sense on Layla’s end and I did then understand why she did what she did. I was glad that things turned out as they should!
I enjoyed this book very much. My only complaint was that Layla brought up her age A LOT. We get it. You’re older, don’t need to tell us very few pages.
Loved it!
A rockstar romance with a woman who gets her chance for true love? Um yes please! Mika Jolie is a new author to me, but I loved this book so much. I really enjoyed the older woman/younger man theme. Age is just a number when it comes to love.
Recommend this book to readers who loved Alyson Santos’ Young Love.
Amazing book. I could sit whole day and just enjoy Layla and Chance’s story. Mika you hit this one right out of the ball park. I love me some rockstar books, add older woman/ younger man into the mix and you have me from the first chapter of this book. I always admire a very strong leading character and that was Layla, however Chance is my kind of guy. He knows what he wants and their age difference does not faze him. He wants Layla and he will have her. Fantastic book and highly recommended.
Super cute easy read. This was my first book by. Mika Jolie and it kept me entertained and definitely wanting more. I love that the heroine is older. (My age) shows you can still find love at an older age. Wish there was a little more to the book/storyline but over all a good book.
Layla’s life is in turmoil so she takes off for a weekend to figure out where to go from there. Her job as a lawyer has always defined her. She is driven, organized and has everything planned out. When she meets Chance, who is younger, and her opposite in every way he makes her see a side of herself she didn’t know existed. They have chemistry from the start can Chance convince Layla to let go of her preconceived notion of her life and just live a little?
This was a fun, steamy read by Mika Jolie. She created characters that I could fall in love with. Chance may be a rock star but he was real and relatable. Layla struggles with the fact she is older and wondering whether Chance can really want her. Looking forward to reading more by this author.
