The story was so sweet and thoughtful. I know we should only fall in love once but everytime I read something this romantic, I fall in love over and over again LoL. I love the characters in this story.
There are some men who go beyond what we nowadays think or expect out of our employees. They temper their work with fairness and justice.
This is a story about a marshal who encounters unreasonable prejudice. It’s also about good people, downtrodden, because those with more men, more guns, more so-called law were the victors.
The Marshal is a loner, would love to just settle down, but never attracted to women he meets while moving from town to town, keeping the law. In Liberty Springs, the marshal’s heart is snagged by a seamstress who isn’t all that she appears to be, her tongue laced with half-truths. She, along with the town, is protecting a man Jack Holiday was sent to put behind bars. Why? He is determined to find out. One thing about the marshal, he can’t abide lies.
The seamstress is kind, witty, and beautiful. What is not to like about Catherine Rose? She is also attracted to the marshal. But she knows he’s her enemy because he is after Billy. Billy is her life. They share a treacherous past and almost lost their lives as their parents did when the Texans attacked their home. She would protect Billy with her life. But will she have to?
Billy Flint is also a man I could admire. Much like the Marshal, he bends the rules, aids the poor. He is a man of character with a past of tragedy. Even though the Texas Indian Wars are over, hurt and hard feelings continue to riddle the hearts of men. Billy does what he can to revenge the killing of his parents, who not just lost their lives, but their property and land–rightfully belonging to Billy and his sister. He has the town’s gratitude and loyalty.
Secondary character, but no less striking is Molly Monroe, a woman who has also suffered. Her crime? She’s black. Catherine and Molly work the seamstress shop together and are good friends. Molly is very eloquent and is sweet on Billy. But what’s the point? She knows she can never have him.
The arm of the law is long and not always right. This western is a prime example. Author Grafford writes a story where characters suffer for what they are, not what they do. The story is more a novella, however, the author paints a rugged west of hardship and generosity I enjoyed very much.
This story is a great example of why I love historical westerns! In the late 1800’s out west, times were still hard and women had an even harder time making it on their own. But Catherine Rose was doing her best to earn a living and overcome her past.
U.S. Marshall Jack Holiday (love that name and the cover!) has been tracking an outlaw, Billy Bob Flint who has been stealing cattle from the rich and giving to those in need. Yes, the classic Robin Hood syndrome but with a definite twist!
As the two meet, they form an attraction but she is torn because she know Billy snd tries to keep it a secret. But can she and what will Jack do if she tells him? Jo Grafford always writes such wonderful stories, with history and a great message that pulls me and makes my heart smile! Don’t miss this one and cannot wait for the next!
I really enjoyed this story. Even though Billy Bob Flint is labeled as a criminal it is far from the truth. The Ranger sent to arrest him will have his misconceptions turned around especially when he finds out the woman he falls in love with is related to Billy. This story will help you see the prejudices that take place during that time period against anyone with Indian blood or people of color. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.
Loved this sweet story. Marshal comes to town to get his man, but finds love instead. I was able to read in one sitting but very enjoyable. I recommend Lawfully Ours if you like sweet clean stories.
This is my first time reading this author and it wont be my last! I loved this story and the characters! Catherine Rose and US Marshall Jack were made for each other! However, how can they be together when Jack has orders to arrest an outlaw by the name of Billy Bob Flint and Catherine Rose, well, let’s just say there are complications there!!! I loved that Catherine Rose was a strong, independent women, owning her own shop and making her own way in the Old West. That didn’t happen very often. It annoys Jack to no end that everyone in town sticks up for Billy Bob flint and he can’t understand it! He needs to find out why! It’s a fun story and I liked the flow of it. The ending will have you cheering!
This is a great book. It is very well written and holds your attention. This is a new-to-me author and I can’t wait to read more of her books. If you like clean westerns with a mystery and romance, you will love this book.
LOVED this book!! Jo hits another one out of the park!!! Must read!!! Ready for the next one!!
