Reader Warning: You’ll need to buckle up and load up on snacks and energy drinks, because this baby clocked in at 112,000 words. But the heartwarming story is filled with adventure, dry humor, quick-witted banter, a touch of mystery, and a hard-earned HEA. 🙂 Raised on the streets, Shay Morgan yearns for a real family, where love is unconditionally offered—even when trust doesn’t come easy. … unconditionally offered—even when trust doesn’t come easy. Before that day arrives, she trespasses and steals in order to provide for the few people who’ve gone out of their way to protect her.
Born to privilege, Ben Bishop loathes his family for the despicable things they’ve done, and not done. He vows to be different, play by the rules, do the right thing. Building a thriving nightclub with those who share his values dominates his world.
One explosive night at his bar, Loading Zone, changes everything. For both of them. Forever.
Will they be able to return from the other side together? Or will their differences tear them apart?
Flirting with danger…has never been so tempting.

The Review:
I love these authors and their novels! I’ve been a fan for a long time. Kat & Stone Bastion know how to write a believable, mesmerizing story that makes you think, and fall in love with wonderful, captivating characters who might start out going in one direction but ultimately win you over as they journey through to the end. That’s what happened here. I loved Shay from the beginning. I even loved Ben from the beginning, too, but he was rough around the edges with a chip on his shoulder. However, I was soon won over and couldn’t help but love this read. From beginning to end, it was filled with beauty, amazing dialogue, and some pretty intense situations that kept me interested and glued to the pages.
Phenomenal, exciting and fun!
Shay is a street kid and she knows the hardships of life. But she’s also relentlessly unselfish as she cares for her friends and works hard to help those who are like her. She’s sweet, kind and full of stubbornness that has served her well. And, she’s sassy and smart. She’s had to be with the way she grew up.
Deciding to try legit work, she takes a job as a bartender where she collides with Ben, who is broody, moody and full of conflict. He’s swamped with his own problems and when he handles a situation badly between the two of them, he has to put his pride away as Shay puts him through his paces while he tries to make things right.
These two together… wow! I loved them. Their meet/greet was page turning! Their story was unique, intense and these authors give you a well written slow build/slow burn with a firey tension that made my heart speed up and my tummy flutter. Once they got past the initial conflict, they were accepting of one another, caring and the authors quickly shed light on Ben’s hardness to the tender man under all the gruff. He was swoon-worthy!
Shay and Ben’s banter was lighthearted one moment and powerful the next. Like I said, this book had some amazing dialogue. It also had some truly well-written introspection as Shay detailed her life and her struggles. I will say some of the inner monologing got a little overwhelming on occasion and a bit repetitive a time or two, but overall, that was a small detour on an otherwise enjoyable read where I got to know Shay and Ben so personally. Both were easy to connect with and I just couldn’t put this book down!
This is the third novel in the Unbreakable series and I loved seeing characters from previous books make appearances. I loved seeing their lives continue. Make no mistake though – you don’t need to read the previous books to read this one as it can be read as a standalone – however, you should because they are just as incredible as Lawbreaker.
“Would the warning signs she’d posted all along lead to a horrendous wreck…or a glorious ride?”
Lawbreaker was my introduction to Kat & Stone Bastion. Yeah, I admit it, #CoverLust gets the credit for grabbing my attention and causing me to read the intriguing synopsis. I’m a sucker for beautifully broken characters and once I knew Shay was raised on the streets I had to meet her. I knew she would have many layers that I was anxious to see peeled back and what better way than through the eyes of sexy Ben who is also damaged?
I expected Shay to be badass, how could she not? But rather than the hardened cold person I expected, she has a huge heart. The only problem is that all the love is going out and she’s not keeping any for herself. She’s strong and very protective over those that have stood by her as she learned the ropes. Now that she’s older, it’s her turn to give back. She takes that responsibility very seriously and she’s willing to do whatever is required to survive and to help those that she cares about. She’s like a mama bear and you don’t want to mess with her cubs.
Ben & Shay’s first encounter was explosive and not in a good way. He’s used to getting what he wants and she’s used to fighting for everything. While most might back down to him immediately, that’s not her style. And of course, that’s exactly what gets his attention. Now that she’s got it, she doesn’t know what to do with it. She doesn’t trust anyone for good reason, but her body is not listening to her head. “I wanted him…but I didn’t want to want him.”
He follows every law to the letter and she’s a lawbreaker. Well, you know what they say about when opposites attract, right? Will the lawbreaker end up falling for a heartbreaker? Or will she bring him over to the dark side and end up breaking not only the law but his heart as well?
I really enjoyed this story. There are also some very wonderful support characters that won me over and I’m hoping to see more of them as the Unbreakable series continues. The line forms here…
ROBIN HOOD ROMANCE
LAWBREAKER is the third book in the Unbreakable series. They are each meant to stand on their own and they do.
With a Robin Hood theme and a solid look at the plight of the modern working man – one paycheck from the streets – and those already on the streets, LAWBREAKER is more than a romance. It is the perfect book to have been my first read of the New Year. It is a reminder to count my blessings and to always lend a helping hand where I can.
On the surface, most would think that Ben, born of privilege, and Shay, living on the streets, couldn’t be more different. As their story is told, we find that may be their only difference. Ben may follow every rule placed in front of him and Shay knows how to twist them to meet needs, but in the end they’re each following their hearts. Thankfully, those hearts find each other.
I loved the banter, the sense of family being in those you can depend upon not necessarily blood, and societal compassion that fills the pages of this story. There were some very tough subjects addressed with grace and a strong sense of justice that needs to be met.
I loved getting to know Shay and Ben. I loved that even when I thought I had them figured out, there was always another twist to be added. And, of course, I loved that Kiki, Cade, Mason, and the rest of my favorite past characters were able to smooth their path to happiness. (I’m still imagining Kiki with fairy godmother wings!).
Note: While I received this book as a gifted copy via NetGalley, my opinions are my own and are given freely.
Title: LAWBREAKER

I totally enjoyed this wonderful read. A deeply emotional story captured and held my interest. Shay and Ben were a study in contrasts. Ben is powerfully swoon worthy and I found myself with a serious girl crush on Shay. She was so strong and feisty. I enjoyed the sparks that these two generated and their banter. Charm, drama, emotional turmoil and passion are blended into a winning combination that creates a romance that lingers in the mind and heart.

One hundred percent honesty here…
I origsinally stopped and gave this book a chance because of the come hither sexiness of the cover! I mean, seriously, who doesn’t want to stop and see what he has to say! (And those of you getting ready to read it, that scene that’s being depicted is hot AF. FYI)
Gorgeous cover and smoking hot model aside, Lawbreaker was a feel good book. Huh? I know. You are losing interest but it’s a great story. It’s serious with a side of sass. It’s romantic, definitely but the storyline is so much more. It has a message and one that should definitely be heard by many, many more. It’s long though! It needs to be. Lawbreaker is all about building trust and a foundation. Kat and Stone Bastion needed every word in this book to build the story. I’m saying all this because I don’t want you getting intimidated or give up.
Learning, growing, and expanding your world view one “accident” at a time.
4.5stars
When two people from completely opposite side meet and in an instant there is something more than just a meeting is an unexplainable urge to get to know the other person to the bottom of their souls, to know everything about eachother. A story about finding the one person who shows you that you can trust again to open up and with that giving them the power to hurt you or even better to love you. Both Ben and Shey are likable well-developed characters. What happens to Shay in the past is so sad and it was no wonder that she runs away. The week in which they exchange the side of how the other one live is really interesting passionate and we get to know them even more. Great intense, emotional story.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for Netgelly
Shay Morgan grew up on the streets and steals to survive. When she gets a legitimate job at the Loading Zone she is excited but is fired almost immediately by the owner as he thinks she is too young to be working there.
Ben Bishop grew up rich and privileged and owns the Loading Zone. He is worried about losing his liquor license when he sees Shay but doesn’t really give her a chance to talk before he fires her.
When Ben finally gets to Shay he learns more about her and sees what she does to survive and the two make a pact about living in each other’s worlds. When Ben discovers things his own dad has done will he do the right thing with Shay’s help?
I enjoyed this book but at times I must admit I was feeling overwhelmed with it. There was so much in the book that I was drifting a few times.
I thought Shay was a great character and I was impressed with her ability to survive out there. She was definitely crafty and the things that she did amazed me and I was definitely worried about her getting caught, especially at night.
When you first meet Ben you hate him for firing Shay but you gradually see another side of him that really learns to care about Shay and keeping her safe. I liked how he realized that he couldn’t force Shay to live in his world and he really worked hard at understanding hers.
I liked that Ben knew what the right thing to do was but I was shocked at what Shay did towards the end to protect him and others.
I liked what Ben did at the end for Shay to make her happy and content!
I remember falling in love with the Bastions’ writing while reading Rule Breaker, and from reading Lawbreaker, I can see that their writing has only gotten better.
Shay Morgan is a street-hardened, wise beyond her years young woman who’s been breaking the law for years. Now, deciding to be legit, she’s found a bartending job. But then Ben Bishop happens and she gets fired. Shrugging it off, and back on the streets, she knows she’ll bounce back and find something else to get by. And then Ben Bishop happens to her again. But this time, it’s different. And that difference changes her life.
God, I just loved these two together. From Ben’s grumpy but hiding a heart of gold facade to Shay’s defiant but beautiful spirit, there was absolutely nothing about Lawbreaker that I didn’t fall in love with. Ben and Shay are beautiful together. It’s not often that an author can do heartfelt, sexy and entertaining all at the same time, but Kat and Stone Bastion have the magic touch. I cannot wait for more of their writing!
Terrific
I won a copy of this book from Goodreads giveaways, I was not required to give a favorable review. This story is so realistic. Each of the people have such a touching story, but from people who have money to the ones on the street. She’s had to grow up fast after she ran away but had plenty of help, but she paid it back by helping the others. Ben finally decided that he couldn’t do the right thing by his mom. He has a friend’s family. Now he has come meet Shea the little lawbreaker.

Lawbreaker, Unbreakable book three, by Kat Bastion brought one of my favorite songs Lost Boy to life but flipped the script. This is my first book to read by Kat Bastion and it brought so many feels and it was more than the lovely dovey feels. I normally read more grittier, dark, crime books but this one hit home without all of that. It’s crazy, I know!
Shay is a runaway. She has been living on the streets since she was just a kid. It just gut checks me thinking of a child living on the streets but Shay is a survivor. She not only looks after herself, she does all she can to help others like her. She is selfless to a fault. But there is always that little thought in the back of her mind of wanting to belong. Always looking in the windows of a warm family home wishing one day she would be the one looking out.
Taking a chance on a normal job, working for a living rather than pickpocketing Shay finds herself face to face with Ben Bishop.
Ben dealing with his own demons has issues when he first meets Shay. The last thing he needs is for someone to come in and bring more drama into his life or his business. Ben struggling with a codependent mother, father that screwed over hundreds of people is ready to snap and he does, right at Shay. Poor Shay was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Shay being the strong, independent type does not back down and there goes the “law abiding citizen” job.
Ben finally gets Shay to agree to meet and the fun begins. Shay shows him her world little by little. Their escapades throughout the book is amusing. Shay getting the straight laced collar wearing golfer to loosen up takes a push. “I’m winning you over, crime by crime.”
I loved reading about the different characters in this book. Especially the ones Shay would visit weekly with cash, food, clothing or whatever was needed. It made me want to dig into their stories more. I am pretty sure I love Shay’s heart, I wanna be like Shay when I grow up.
He came to me with the sweetest smile, Told me he wanted to talk for awhile, He said, Peter Pan, that’s what they call me, I promise that you’ll never be lonely- Lost Boy, Ruth B.
If you’re looking for a book that is not only heartwarming, but is also a perfect blend of wit, charm and smexyness, you can’t go wrong with a Kat & Stone Bastion novel. Lawbreaker, the third book in their Unbreakable series, is yet another wonderful, pull at your heart addition to their collection.
Shay Morgan had to raise herself on the streets, stealing to provide not just for her but for the few she calls her own. And even though trust is not something that comes easily to her, a loving family is what she wants. She’s taken her first baby walking on the right side of the law by working at Loading Zone, where employees are like family.
Ben Bishop grew up wanting for nothing, yet hating his parents and vowing to be the exact opposite of them. He upholds the law and helps others through his booming club Loading Zone. He never expected a gorgeous, sassy, Lawbreaker would come into his life and change it forever.
As their battle of wits progresses, Shay and Ben slowly lower their defenses and start to trust one another. They make a one week deal where each bare themselves and their way of thinking to the other. When Ben’s father’s past is revealed though, together Ben and Shay are in a position to right the wrong. But if the line is crossed, will they be able to come back from it together?
I’ve known since I picked up my first Kat and Stone book that theirs are true feasts and guaranteed to have you smiling because of the characters witty banter, loving their characters, and marveling at their stimulating plots and beautiful writing. I’m at a point where I’m sure I could pick out one of their books just by reading a snippet. They’re style is all their own and has a poetic cadence which I find entrancing. With Lawbreaker though, I took my time. I savored it. I would read the chapter titles and try to predict what was to come and then finish the chapter and just enjoy it. I even re-read a few because I simply didn’t want it to end.
Beyond the banter between Ben and Shay, who dishes out as much as she gets, Kat and Stone once again create a seemingly impossible relationship. Even though they were similar in many profound ways, both battered yet determined, they were also on opposite spectrums of the law. And yet her being a Lawbreaker made Ben love her more because “she’d made it her life’s mission to help save the victims of the indifference.” This isn’t just a reverse Robin Hood, steal from the rich to give to the poor love story. Lawbreaker incorporates the important topic of our world’s abandoned and neglected citizens.
Getting back to the romance though, I loved Shay and Ben’s. It was certainly unique. I’ve never read anything like it. It was also a bit wild with their strong personalities and difference of opinions, but it was also slow and sweet. Tender and sexy, and definitely touching.
Finally, a Kat & Stone Bastion book wouldn’t be complete without cameo appearances from Cade, his sisters and other past characters. They complimented the story perfectly and helped Shay and Ben on their way to their HEA.
Lawbreaker is standalone, full-length new adult romance by Kat & Stone Bastion. It’s an unputdownable slow burn, full of deliciously sweet and sexy moments. Written from both points of view with a happy ending.
5 STAR Review by Jodi for Ruby Red Romance Review
I loved every single twist and turn of this amazing story. Ben and Shay were everything I never knew I wanted and so much more. This story took through every emotion and feeling all in one book. I loved it.
I loved Shay from the very first time we met her. She’s sassy, hard headed, and not afraid to tell you what you need. I love a good strong lead and Shay was exactly that. I loved her. Ben…I wanted to throat punch him in the beginning, but I quickly figured out that he had good intentions and a heart of gold.
Watching these two get to the place they were meant to be was so exciting. This story far exceeded my expectations. I’ve not had the pleasure of reading the other books in this series, but that didn’t hurt this story at all. If anything I want to go back and read them now. Please check out this amazing book.
I came to this book in the series by accident, a random choice from a list, but I’ll be going back to start at the beginning for certain. I wasn’t sure exactly what I was in for, but I certainly wasn’t prepared for the depth that this story, these characters and this world took me to!
This book follows the story of Ben and Shay. It is a romance, but not a light and fluffy one like many of us anticipate out of hand. There are BIG issues here, for the characters, their families and their lives. It was an odd, tense, pleasing experience to follow these two very opposite and yet very similar characters weave their way around one another and integrate their very different life experience into something that showed them that they just might be made for each other.
Take a chance on Lawbreaker. Or pick up one of the earlier books in the series by these authors. You won’t be disappointed!
Rcvd an ARC at no cost to author..We have a romantic modern day Robin Hood with Shay, she lives in the streets and protects her own. While trying to have better or dream as she says it all comes crashing down when she meet Ben. Ben takes out his anger on Shay and when she leaves he realizes his mistake, and while trying to fix that mistake their lives change.
There are thousands of great author out there, some already discovered and some waiting for me to do so. So when I saw the cover with Stuart on it, it’s sad to say but I wanted to read it. I read the blurb and it seemed like the kind of story I would love. Well this original 5 star didn’t disappoint me in the least.
Shay has lived on the streets for a very long time. She was safer there then in her home. She’s a selfless young lady who helps everyone around her. Then comes Ben who’s born with privileges but he’s not without issues. They form an unlikely pair. Will she find what’s she’s looking for? Thrust again?
This was an amazingly brilliantly written story. One that sucked me in the life of Shay. It’s a dry humoured, addicting and captivating story. Shay was my favourite character. Having brought herself up on the streets but also by being kind and generous to others. It’s an gut wrenching story but at the same time it can be heartwarming. Bottomline is this is a must read.
This is the third book in the Unbreakable series. This is my first and I feel it can safely be read as a standalone. Told in a dual POV with a an HEA. I strongly recommend this story. It’s a lengthy story but these characters had a lot to say.
***5 ‘See The Beauty In The Gray’ Stars***
The reader warning was absolutely on point. I thoroughly enjoyed Lawbreaker to the nth degree. It was all kinds of sweet, smexy, funny and full of heart that had me willing jump down the rabbit hole and savor all the words that brought Ben and Shay’s unique story to vibrant HD life.
I adore Ben and Shay. Well, I adored Shay from the first moment I met her. Sassy, stubborn and snarky. This girl has a fire in her that burns brightly. But it was seeing her heart, a heart that’s been bruised, but is so golden and will do anything and everything for those she calls her own. Ben…well the man and I didn’t start off well, but he soon proved through his actions what a good man he really is. He may have tunnel vision in certain areas of his life, but he has a compassionate heart and honor branded on his soul as well as a kind of charm that makes him irresistible
Ben and Shay’s journey to their HEA was definitely a unique one as their worlds collide and despite doing their best to keep each other at arm’s length, find that they incapable of it. The push/pull was a lot of fun, as was the bantering that came with it. The sexual tension that simmered between them was hot and when things finally came to a head it was all kinds of smexy! But it was when they got down to how they were to their very souls, and how they had a lot more in common than they first believed, that proved to me how well matched these two really were.
This book was a lot of fun to read, especially since I will never look at golf in the same way ever again, but there is also a side of it that makes you look beyond what you believe to be black and white and consider the grey, which only served to give the story more soul. As for the supporting cast of characters, they were all very well written and I really enjoyed hanging out with all the ones that Ben and Shay called their own. I have a soft spot for Mase, but I now really need to find time to read Heartbreaker and the No Weddings series and get to know Cade and Hannah and Kiki and Darren better. But I will say that I’m quite interested in Whoosh and wouldn’t mind if he got his own book one day.
Note: This book can be read as a standalone.

I keep running into this problem with contemporary romances lately where I am simply unsure exactly how I feel about them. I am left in that in-between place when it comes to a star rating and it haunts me because I never really know if what I ultimately decided on was the right choice.
Lawbreaker is a story about finding yourself on your own terms and creating the future you want. I loved the concept of it. I loved the idea that our Heroine Shay is a runaway who raised herself on the streets, finding ways to survive inside and outside of the law and created a sort of family with others in her same circumstances. I loved that our Hero is a man who for all intents and purposes has everything anyone could ever want except a functional and loving family. I loved these two fighting to find themselves and who they can be with each other. My challenge came with just how slow the first half of the book is. It’s beautifully told no doubt, but it took me days to drag myself though those first chapters. This is where I find it hard to decide what the review rating should be because in the end this is a beautiful story of love, understanding, character growth (oh my the character growth) and triumph, but it is plain and simply drags for a good portion of the book. Is it worth reading? Absolutely, that’s why I gave it 4 stars but you need to go in to this book when you have time, space, quiet. It is intense in the emotional journey and will take all of your emotions with it.
Lawbreaker is part of a series and having read the whole series might heighten your enjoyment but I didn’t feel that you needed to read them by any means, this is definitely what I would consider a standalone in a series. If you are looking for a beautifully (yes I know I keep using that word to describe this book but there truly is a reason for it.) emotional read I can highly suggest this one. If you are looking for a quick easy HEA wait on this one, get it in your book pile for sure but you want to read this when you have the time to focus and devote to it. You won’t regret having given this book all your heart and attention but I just don’t feel like you can go in half-arsed with it. There are some tough subjects ( one which I have to admit I wish we had gotten more closure on) and it could be pretty hard to read for those with a background of sexual abuse or alcoholism, but at the same time it is tastefully portrayed (as much as those acts can be told in a tasteful manner) and brought with heart behind it, the acts are all told via the person who lived them but they aren’t active acts happening at the time of the actual story.
Get Lawbreaker on your TBR and prepare for an emotional journey.
~ HAPPY READING ~
This is my first read from Kat and Stone. In all honesty, I had no idea what I was about to jump into. This book can be read as a standalone, but I think maybe it is a interconnected standalone. While the story line held a lot of promise, I felt as if I was just at a stand still with this book, I just could not get into it, like at all. I tried, I really did, but there was just certain things that made that difficult. I really hate to say this, but I am not a fan of these authors writing style. I feel like it was choppy, not very descriptive, ( no I am not just talking about sex. ) To me, there seemed to be a lot left out. I was confused half of the time, because it seemed to jump from one thing to another without even a notice. I could not connect with the characters either. It was just to all over the place for me.
What I did like, was the self reflection in this book. It was nice to see how these characters viewed themselves and ” tried ” to be better. I also did like that both characters tried to give back to humanity even though, they went about it the wrong way. I enjoyed the DUAL POV as well.
Overall, I would not reread this book again, but I do have hope for these authors futures, Maybe in the future I will give them another try.
