A lush, tropical island on an icy planet makes no sense. Then again, not much makes sense anymore after waking up and finding myself not in bed but on a strange world populated by aliens. Since that moment, I’ve learned that nothing is normal anymore and I’ve got to roll with the punches. I can handle this, though. I’m strong and capable. So… washed up on a tropical island? Got it handled.Separated … it handled.
Separated from the others in my group? Handled.
Stranded alone with a brutal but delicious alien man that can’t speak English but has great…ahem…body language? Yup, handled.
Add in the fact that my cootie – a symbiont I need to survive – has chosen my big, hulking alien friend as my fated mate? Let’s just say that the situation isn’t the only thing that’s going to be handled.
But it isn’t long before I learn that the tropical island paradise is a death trap and we’re all in grave danger, aliens and humans alike. To survive this, I’ll need my tempting guy to give me a hand with the situation…good thing he’s got four of them.
This romance features all of the adventure, humor and community you’ve come to expect in the Ice Planet Barbarians series, but it stands on its own. You do not need to read the other series (or be caught up) in order to read LAUREN’S BARBARIAN. Enjoy!

Our wonderfully kind and sexy hero in this book is my total fav. K’thar has four blue arms, ladies. FOUR! Need I say more?? He can hold a baby, cuddle his mate and cook dinner all at once. This book, and this whole series, is utterly delightful and entertaining. Really, anything by Ruby Dixon is!Ruby Dixon
This was my first Ruby Dixon read and it was So Much Fun!!!
I’m already making my way through the Icehome series and enjoy the blend of steamy and sweet … and let’s not forget the hilarity. I’m smiling so big as I read these. The cultural differences between different species is a hella entertaining!
Fun escape reads.
Lauren’s Barbarian (Icehome #1) by Ruby Dixon. The writing is easy to read and addicting. Ruby has created another branch in this series where we introduce more kidnapped women and different tribes on different lands. Ruby is keeping it fresh. I love when the story or part of the story is told in the aliens pov. It makes for a fun read.
Must read
There’s a plot and it’s hot!!!
Sometimes you just want a romance for romance-sake. But other times you really, really crave a good romance and a good plot.
Fortunately this book delivered on both in spades. And now I have to go back and read the other series, too!
I loved this story. The characters are interesting and well developed. I was really impressed with Lauren and how she reacted to everything that came up.
Lauren wakes up on an ice planet with big blue aliens and a few others. She decides she will just “handle it”. After an accident, Lauren wakes up on a tropical island and wonders if she was kidnapped by aliens again because a tropical island on an ice planet doesn’t make sense. When she realizes that she’s not alone on the island, but with a stranger that can’t speak her language she wonders how this is going to work, But then Lauren realizes that they are resonating (her cootie/symbiont that was needed to survive chooses a mate) which makes everything more complicated. If that’s not enough, she then learns that the island paradise isn’t really a paradise and they need to leave if they want to survive.
The interactions between Lauren and K’Thar are awesome. The two of them are hilarious, sweet, strong and unconventional. The faith that K’Thar put into Lauren was beautiful. I love their happy ever after. I recommend reading or listening to this book. I’ve read it through Kindle Unlimited and listened to it through Audible Escape.
All of our blue barbarian novels are fun, sexy romances. This spinoff of the original series is no exception! It is a different type of blue sexiness that I can’t wait to read more about!
There is only one word that come to mind when I think about this book –
The Icehome series is reviving our barbarian tribe by mixing it up a little bit. Ruby introduced to us sixteen new human females and four new alien males in this series. But that’s not all! She introduced some new clans made up from some decedents of the Sakh – The Clan of the Strong Arm, The Clan of the Tall Horn, and the Clan of the Shadowed Cat. Some of the newbies have already paired up, so I am sure this series will be just as lengthy as Ice Planet Barbarians. Yay!
I have seen some reviews ranting that this is the same series as IPB. I understand their frustration, but this is just the first book. Chill out! They have to have their cootie to survive; if Ruby did away with them, then the foundation of the tribe would just be one big lie. Also, this is a paranormal romance, so there has to be resonance. I’m not sure what you were expecting. Once the newbies are educated and stable, I’m sure the basics will change and grow. However, I am not going to complain about the IPB characters crashing the IceHome series. I mean, how funny was Liz at the beginning of this book? I just love her!
All-in-all, this series is going to be just brilliant. Ruby has laid some serious groundwork to build upon. I can’t wait for the next book!
4 Stars!

First, I don’t think these are stand-alone books in the series. I also think you need to read at least book 1 and 2 from IPB to get the gist of things here. I read books 1-4 in IPB, but I still feel I missed a lot going into this series. I started this series thinking it would be stand-alone, since I hadn’t read all of IPB.
This was a good book. Even though I read book 1-4 in IPB, I felt a bit lost at the beginning of this book. I really don’t think this is a true stand-alone series from IPB as it is being advertised. I felt the book was a bit slow starting out, there were a few times in the first 30% that I considered quitting, with a lot of details left out or within the world building (part of why you need to read a few from IPB in order to get the basics) or references made to characters from the IPB that I didn’t read about. I did like the main characters, Lauren/Lo and K’Thar . I wasn’t put off by the 4 arms of the strong arm tribe, that was actually an interesting twist for me. I was disappointed that a tad more story wasn’t given to Marisol & her mate (the other girl that got stranded on the island with Lauren/Lo). I don’t think she was a strong enough character to get her own book or Novella, but I’d like to know what happened to her & her mate. I’m part way into book #5 at the point of writing this, & nothing has even been mentioned of her & her mate who was on death’s door when they got off the rafts & sought out Veronica the healer. This definitely wasn’t a book I’d re-read, though I did enjoy it once I got past a certain point into the book.
This is a perfect start to this new series!!!! Oh My Gosh Lauren and K’thar are everything! This story starts of with a bang. Their adventure is absolutely crazy. The angst is this book never dies!!!! I was glued to the pages just waiting in anticipation to see what would happen next!!! Lauren is such a badass! She is so strong and so Brave even when she does not want to be! K’thar is such an amazing and kind leader. He does whatever it takes to take care of his people. Lauren and K’thar are a match made in resonance heaven. This jungle isn’t the only thing heating up!! They are so sexy!! I loved this story so much!!! Getting to meet some new aliens was so interesting!!!! I seriously can not wait to see where the people of Icehome go from here! You all definitely need to pick up this book. Lauren and K’thar will steal your heart. I really can not wait to read this again!! It is so Incredible!!!
P.S. This book is so amazing and I know that I would have loved it just as much if I had read it before “Ice Planet Barbarian’s” all the cameos are just a fun bonus.
Lauren’s Barbarian is the 1st book in the Icehome series which is a spinoff of the Ice Planet Barbarians. No worries if you haven’t read about these delicious blue skinned aliens yet, you can start here and not be lost in the slightest. This book shows how lust and love can grow despite language barriers.
I kept thinking while reading this one, that I wish I could be there. I mean, I wouldn’t be too thrilled about being kidnapped and waking up surrounded by blue skinned, horned aliens with a twitchy tail… but once you get to know these guys they are sexy, sweet alphas. You can’t do much better than them… ya know except for some modern amenities 😉 But watching how Lauren started off by not being able to see (she awakens without her glasses) but after getting her khui, her vision is corrected made me think. Not sure why it took til now to spark this thought… But I would love a khui to heal everything the drs here on earth can’t solve. A chance to be able to be active again, to eat, to see clearly, to not be in such pain… I never thought the fictional place I’d want to end up on would be an ice planet full of aliens… but these books have made up my mind! Aliens – come find me!
This is kind of a spin-off of the regular Ice Planet Barbarians series. It focuses on three small but individual tribes of sakhui who have evolved completely differently and separate from Vektal’s tribe. Each group has their own very distinctive physical features, although all can camouflage themselves as a defense mechanism. They also just happen to live in a lush tropical paradise (in the middle of this ice planet) that’s actually what remains of a volcano caldera that fairly recently erupted. And its apparently still active, given the smoking areas and frequent ground shaking. We revert to some of the original problems of the kidnapped girls trying to adapt to a new environment with their alien rescuers, mostly in that none of them have had a language dump or speak each other’s tongue. But Lauren and K’thar manage to overcome these obstacles, form a strong bond, and even start learning to communicate with one another. Because of outside threats, the three tiny tribes finally band together as one, then set off on a dangerous route toward safety. And are eventually reunited with the main barbarian group. Although much about this new group and their sliver of world is completely illogical, the story is still a good one, and the characters quite sympathetic. I believe there are future stories in the works about this small band of survivors, as well as the other human females and off-world aliens who arrived mostly recently to the ice planet.
