When I started reading I thought the shop owner was female, but in this “cozy mystery” the owner is male. I needed to keep it in mind since his name is androgynous. The dachshund’s name, Gambit, is a hoot.

Okay, so there’s a bright star in this story, the dachshund, my fav. But the story has so many twists and turns that I was spinning and chasing my “tail’ more than my own sleuth at home. Stories inside of stories, questions upon questions and of course, (Agatha Christie favorite) poison. Have patience, curl up with a latte and enjoy. It’s worth it in the end.

First time reading this series and author and thought it was good. Wish there was more interaction between Kirby and Nan as she seems fiesty. Liked Avett hope to see more of her in the future not necessarily as side-kick but definitely friend/cheerleader material. Like that we were well introduced to a few characters but would like to read about more and the town in future books. Good, quick read and yes slightly predictable murderer but like the other little twists that were revealed in the motive.

I enjoyed this book because the person solving the mysteries was not a woman who hated the police but a male who was working with the police. Much less of the attitude of the police are incompetent and therefore need a total armature getting involved. While the person does get involved it is because he knows and is best friends with the detective. Enjoyable

Kirby owns Kapow Koffee, which is also a comic book shop. This is book two in the series, but in book one Kirby was accused of murder. Following a book club meeting, Barb is found dead by Avett and Kirby. (Avett, Barb’s niece) has been living with her aunt. Kirby and Avett get involved in solving Barb’s murder – much to Felicia’s dismay since she is a detective. The plot in this book is simple and straightforward, making it a casual read. The dog Gambit (and his love life) is a nice touch.

Cute, intuitive daschund and a friend who kills to cover up. It was a good, but not spectacular, read.

Would probably be good for older kids that are past “kid” books. The murder is not graphic, and despite a good looking male and female couple starting to date, there is nothing beyond kissing in a very platonic kind of way. Really not enough plot or tension there to keep the attention of an adult reader.
