WOW ! Lasts…. Second book about characters known from the Firsts… and I still have problems with writting my review. Why ??? Because CL Mathewson left me breathless… I really needed some time to get thru thoughts in my head.
Knowing Cassie I was sure…. this book will be amazing one… but also with lots of ups and downs, with lots very hard moments. I really want to write so many things but I don’t know what…. my heart is still in million pieces… my head is spinning around. Meeting Silas, Brax and Leia is unforgetable…. It could change forever. After reading Firsts…. after diving in Lasts I still want more of this story.
I’m blown away!
I loved Firsts and how the story of these complex characters started, but also it left so many questions unanswered and the plot twists and drop offs could literally take you in any direction!
What I absolutely LOVED about this book was that it took those turns and unanswered questions from Firsts, and started to pick away at them ever so slowly. It was agonizing(and steamy!) but amazing to read all at the same time. Lasts started to peel back the layers and give you glimpses into the back story of each character to put the puzzle pieces together a little bit, chapter by chapter. Then also threw you for a loop by adding in more twists! Just when you thought you had something figured out, she would throw something different at you and make you have to re think everything! I loved how intriguing this story was and cannot wait for more! The cliffhangers were killer but in the best ways!
I am beginning to kinda hate Leia a little bit, shes getting flighty and contradicting herself alot. But I also kind of love that about her. She’s raw and real with the emotions shes battling and the internal struggles shes dealing with. I had to step back a few times, and re read her chapters thinking “ok, I’m reading this from a 30 yr old me perspective….she’s 17 try this chapter again through her perspective” lol then I started to get it way more!
I loved the character development of Sy, he’s got a few different sides to him and they all started to come into view in this book, so you start to get to know him better and begin to understand what makes him tick, why he has made the choices he has….but still not REALLY knowing him yet. We have so much more to learn about him and I’m so excited!
Brax is still kind of an illusion of a character to me, even after some of the back story development but I kinda like the mystery of him still. He wasn’t really a forefront in this story much and the end was such a HUGE cliffhanger for him that I’m eager to learn more about him and see where his role in this series takes us!
Such a great read!
Holy Wow!!! Matthews blew me away with Lasts. I couldnt stop flipping the pages, craving more of her words. Lasts has everything I need in a great book.
I love love love Silas, Leia, and Brax! I love the direction Matthews took Brax and Leia, it was fantastic for them, I felt the hatred, the longing, the despair for their situation. Ultimately I’m left wondering where they go from here, cuz damn it was sooo good. Now Silas, boy am I slowly moving away from #teamsandwich and moving to #teamsy! Holy hell the past chapters for Silas are freaking so amazing, and so freaking steamy. I totally need more of them.
Can you hate and love a person equally? Like Lele hate n love Sy, I hate and love this authorI mean for crying out loud that ending! I swear she is that evil who just love to see her reader squirm in agony with every word she write in her books!
So good with the taboo and forbidden and twisted and steamy… I mean super steamy scenes…Last definitly perfect to get all those blood pumping through my vein cause yeah Daddy Sy rules!
Although there’s couple scene that just make my eyebrow going up so high, over all definitly recommend Last for you who love an age gap daddy dark taboo romance with sandcwich on top
How the hell do I come back from this emotionally charged read. I thought Firsts couldn’t be outdone, but I was so wrong… oh, so wrong. Lasts broke me. The ups and downs. The freaking anx!… Just read it and be amazed!
Lasts is book two in the Cape Hill series, and this series must be read in order. Please make sure you read Firsts first!
Lasts continues the story of Leia, Sy, and Brax, and picks up where Firsts ends. And new characters that are important to the story are introduced along the way. I had no idea what to expect with this book, and absolutely no expectations (except for wanting as much Sy as possible ), and CL Matthews gave me things I didn’t even know I needed.
I know I’m not saying much about this book or series, but everything I want to say would be a spoiler. So the best thing I can say is that if you love taboo, age gap romance, then you must read these books.
I wish I could read this again for the first time, and I am already thinking about re-reading, which is something I do not normally do. But I have to do something because the wait for Forevers already feels like forever!
“Tears fall from my eyes like blood drips from an open wound” I can’t with this quote, with this book. It’s so much. I don’t even know where to start to explain what I thought of it! All the secrets revealed! The steaminess. The push and pull. The times my chest ached. The emotions she pulled out of me were crazy! I don’t want to spoil anything. But damn! That second epilogue. Hottest ever!! Please say its foreshadowing…. A total 5+ stars!
I was so excited to finally get my hands on Lasts and I was not disappointed. Sy and Leia have off the charts chemistry and it was scorching HOT – like melt my Kindle hot! Without giving too much away, if you read Firsts, you will know what I’m talking about when I say teams and whose you are on. Some switched sides, but I’ve not wavered. I enjoyed learning more about Sy’s past and at the same time realized how much I really hate Dante. We got to see a whole lot of Brax in this book and I freaking loved every bit of it. Leia is one lucky girl 🙂 My curiosity has definitely been piqued with some of the side characters – especially the twins and hope to read more about them at some point. Patiently awaiting the release of Forevers!
I’m still very new to CL Matthews, but I am a forever fan!!!!! Dark, dirty, and gritty just how I like them!!!! You GOTTA read this book!!!!
Blown away by this book it picked it when firsts left off! You get more background on Silas and xo but wow Silas and Lelia that was just wow! Brax he continues to impress me! Another amazing jo
Ahhhh! I finished this book in one sitting. Page after page wanting more and more. I couldn’t get enough and was upset once I hit the end. Leia, Sy and Brax story just keeps getting better and better. This book provided more background on Sy and Brax. I couldn’t get enough. I wanted to know all the things about Silas. I don’t want to give too much away but Sy past gives so much insight to why he holds his emotions back. BraxBraxBrax… I just want to protect him. Oh and the chemistry is fire! *fans self* And the angst takes your breath away. My mind is still reeling from the ending. I can’t wait to be back in the world of Leia, Sy and Brax.
Dante, I don’t like you and I’m keeping an eye on you. *evil eye*
If you are looking for a book about love, lies, loyalty and betrayal this book has it all. Take a chance and read this series
Frustration! My brain had to slow down. The story had spinned into many directions.. Lasts had highlighted the darker past of Silas.. the man he was…
I was intrigued with the dynamic, the feeling between entwined crazy selfish emotions and physical love.
Come on, the story was great! I had to roar down my pent up screaming of WHY!!! Im excited for more…This triangle love had torned down my heart..
Are you freaking kidding me?!?!? That ending …. But let me back up. Leia is a typical teenage girl. So back and forth it’s enough to cause whiplash. But then again Sy and Brax aren’t any better! The drama and craziness surrounding this trio is insane… And I’m loving every second of it! Since it ended with a cliffy… Now I just have to sit here and go nuts to find out what happens…. So y’all need to go One-click it so that you can go crazy with me! And because it’s an awesome book.
C.L. Matthews did not disappoint with this second book in her Cape Hill series. I love these characters! The torment and torture they each go through, the love that they share, the mystery that surrounds them, and the beauty in their pain blends into a perfect storm of lust, love, and uncertainty! I had so many questions from the first book, so many thoughts and wants and hopes. Book 2 left me with more insight, but more questions too! The nail-biting ending left me angry with a few characters and loving others even more! I cannot wait for Forevers to learn the fate of Sy, Leia, and Brax.
After reading Firsts, I couldn’t wait to read more about Leia, Brax & Sy. This book continues right where Firsts left off. There is so much going on with these great & intriguing characters and I love the taboo nature of this story as well as the steamy scenes. The flashbacks of Sy’s past relationship with the twins was also hot & forbidden, leaving me hoping for more of them in the next book. I can’t wait to read the conclusion of this great story!
How could I give this any less than 5 stars? It was so gripping, intense not only in plot and rich in back story, but it gave me much needed insight not only into Silas but my darling Brax. If you like your dark romances equally as rich in steam, angst, drama, emotions and darkness I BEG YOU to not only give this author a try, but especially pick up Cape Hill. Be warned it doesn’t hold back in any aspect at all. WORTH IT.
GIVE ME MORE
This book is fast paced and keeps you turning the pages! My heart was racing as this taboo romance evolves. I can not wait to read the 3rd book. I have so many questions that need answers
I did not think that this love story could any more complicated or intense- anymore intoxicatingly angsty and conflicting, but CL has supercharged this sequel, and my brain and heart are at battle with one another, tearing me apart when it comes to just how I want, need, or think this story will all play out. Be warned though, despite this title, this is not the last of these characters that has left me thirst for the finale (yet to be written) of this chaotic, heart wrenching journey.
What I love most about this series is just how on my toes it keeps me- everything is surprising, everything is conflicting. Our characters keep shedding their layers, becoming increasingly complicated, increasingly dynamic. And the story just keeps twisting- the motives, the intentions, the true feelings- always opaque and always evolving. Just when you think they’ve found an understanding, that everyone has come clean, more twists, more turns, more questions come to light. Parts of this story were sweet and touched my soul, others heart touching and painful, and some just so jaw dropping that I’m still trying to dig my heart out from somewhere in my stomach.
I really loved the side of Silas we got to experience in this book- allowing us to see a bit more into his intentions, his experiences, what led him to this place. Which only made me even more conflicted- this whole Brax vs. Silas challenge is SO well done- and I love how CL toys with the idea that you can have more than one match, love more than one person, because each represents a different aspect of yourself and what you need. And Leia is still so young, at times she doesn’t know what she needs, which makes this dynamic that much more rich, that much more dramatic
CL continues to be a new and inspired voice- her characters are unapologetically flawed, relationships and feelings aren’t clear cut, and the emotions inspired are viscerally raw. This is a series that you have to go into with an open mind- with the understanding that love can not be contained, that love is complex and unpredictable, and that sometimes love is found in the exact place it shouldn’t- making the more dynamic human emotion in our arsenal even more challenging. These characters are living that reality- and they can only control the way they lean in, or out, of the love they share- but they can’t stifle its existence, and the more you try to control your love, the more it tries to control you.
This book continues to challenge me and my conception of romance and love- CL shows us how falling in love can be effortlessly easy but LIVING in love, GIVING into that love can be excruciatingly hard, because love can be ugly and toxic at the same time love can be beautiful and restorative. Seemingly contradictory truths coexist when it comes to loving someone, and that- that exploration, has me turning these pages, has my heart in knots, and has me so very perplexed at just what I want for Leia. But what I want, hell what she wants, won’t be the victor in the end- because CL shows us that the heart can not be tamed, even if the path it is leading you on is painful and unclear.
The story starts where Firsts left off. The author goes into the background of Silas and Brax story. Brax questions himself about his sexuality, love and feelings for Leia. Leia struggles with her feeling between Silas and Brax. Taboo, love triangle , steamy hot sex. This story ends with a cliffhanger. I cant wait to see what the author has for them in the next story.
Lacy Laurel and Aaron Sherlock are excellent narrators, the addition of Jacob Morgan was a perfect choice for Brax. All three showed all the angst, emotions, passions of each character! AudiobookObsessionreviewer
Not quite where I thought the story would go. For me, there are way too many tropes thrown together . What started out as age gap, stepfather taboo has turned into much more and I’m not sure that much more is better in this case. Confused but still reading book 3.
