He was just a boy.And I was just a girl. But if that’s all there was to the story it wouldn’t be very interesting, would it?Up and coming band Willow Creek is back in their hometown for the summer. I loved this story. Maddox is adorable, with his jokes, and hedgehog and all the things he does to just make Emma smile. They were adorable together and I loved how they just meshed so well. Perfect book boyfriend material. I totally understood where he was coming from wanting someone to want him for him not his career. And she had a right to be upset but I think it got blown out of proportion. So glad for a HEA.
Next up is Mathias’ story!
Danger! I decided to read Last to Know after reading Bad Boys Break Hearts (The Boys #1) because I wanted to start with Mascen’s parents but that is leading to wanting to read all the Willow Creek series to find out more about the band.
Emma Burke is happy reading her books, playing the piano, and writing music when she meets Maddox Wade who seems to be the new kid in town. He’s surprised that she has no idea who he is but sooner or later she will find out that he is part of the hot new band Willow Creek.
Next up is buying the Willow Creek box set!
Such an adorably innocent romance read, a definite young adult. The storyline was sweet and flowed very appropriately with nothing feeling rushed, and secrets unveiling at exciting moments. The main female lead was delightful with her quirky tastes, very independent and loyal traits shinning. The male lead was charmingly hilarious, full of self confidence and unabashed in the adventures of life and love. Supporting characters were fantastic with outgoing personalities not to be forgotten. Perfect introduction to the series a recommended read, just wish it would of had different character perspectives I would of adored reading from the male lead’s side.
I have recently been in something of a book slump. Nothing sounds interesting to read; I can’t even decide on a genre. I’ve always had a solution to slumps in the past, something I liked to call Russian Roulette. As you can guess, I pick a random unread book from my library and just go at it. I was discussing my slump with Queen J and she reminded me of the random book feature in Calibre (side note: Calibre is an organizational miracle).
But I digress.
The random book that Calibre decided for me was Last to Know, a book I’ve owned since April 2015. Reading the plot blurb, my initial thoughts were as follows:
-Oh, a musician.
-More specifically, a young musician.
-Is this title just foreshadowing?
-“When she finds out the truth…” this spells out trouble.
-Do drummers really walk around with drum sticks all the time?
So then I read it. Last to Know was quality writing – no grammatical errors or editing mistakes that I noticed. And yet, I just didn’t connect with the characters. Then I started thinking (and maybe this is my downfall): am I just not connecting with these characters because they are so much younger than me? The typical reactions from these teenagers bugged me because it felt so immature, but is this not how I would have reacted when I was 17? I’m sure my mother would agree.
To further this supposition I have about my age, I recently watched the movie The Edge of Seventeen. Enjoyable movie with equal amounts of cringe- and laughter-inducing moments. The downside? I wanted to scream at Nadine “Listen to your mother! Grow up! Clean your room!”
I can only conclude this is a sign I have become a Real Life Adult™. Is this the end of my YA love affair? Or was this a one time aberration? I suppose we’ll find out once Calibre randomly assigns me more YA.
Now get off my lawn, you hooligans.
I loved this book! I found Emma to be sweet and naive which totally helped me to connect with her. I thought Maddox was so sweet, and despite all that was going on with him he gave her adventure. They were sweet. ( oh and her mom was totally like mine!) I hate that Maddox and Mathias had such hard childhoods. So, him getting his HEA was SWEET!
I fell in love with Maddox right from the start! Seriously Emma what took you so long?! Maddox is sweet, sexy and loves to live life to the fullest and he drags Emma out of her room & her books to finally experience everything life has to offer! It’s an engaging journey of stepping out of your comfort zone and falling in love!
