Lena and her daughter are on their own after her husband died six years ago in a car accident. After traveling the globe with her daughter Katelyn, Lena comes to snowy Vail Colorado for a friends wedding. After slipping and falling on ice, she meets a complicated handsome ex skier named Jax. Jax is on an extended vacation, and avoiding the paparazzi due to a scandal. Lena and Jax don’t hit it off right away. It takes some time and some children sledding to put things in perspective for these two.
I absolutely loved this story. It has a nice wintery small town feel to it. You will just fall in love with the characters and the settings and feel like these characters are your friends. If you like a good romance, you will love this story. I can’t wait to read more by this author.
A story to be added to your TBR list. The two main characters are beautifully put together. All of these characters are lovable.
Although we are not out pasts, our pasts are included in who we are. We all handle and process things differently. Those experiences can help us understand how someone else might feel. Neither Jax or Lena had a fun childhood. Lena also experience a traumatizing chapter in her adult life.
When they meet for the first few times it wasn’t a nice interaction, they eventually became friends. They were attracted to each other. However, there is a lot more than just attraction in a relationship. The guards of hearts aren’t easily lowered.
Can you fall in love in three weeks? Can you trust yourself enough to make the right choice?
This was a lovely, sweet romance. I loved Lena and Jax and Katelyn couldn’t be cuter if she tried. All of the characters were great and the location of Vail was good too. I’m not much of a snow bunny but I would give it a try for Jax! LOL! I enjoyed all of the friends and family and their interactions. Lena & Jax are both wounded from their childhoods but when they find each other the healing begins. A really heartwarming story.
True love never runs smooth and this is never more evident than this story. Lena and Jax do not meet in ideal circumstances. They end up not really liking each other and trying so hard to resist the pull to the other. They eventually build up a friendship, which eventually leads them to forever. Loved it. It had fun banter, hot chemistry and a gorgeous little one. What is not to love??
Lena and Jax are both very jaded from their pasts. I enjoyed the characters and supporting characters katlyn is adorable. It did meander in places but overall an enjoyable easy read. It was definitely a journey on personal growth to get to their hea. I received a free copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving a review
This author has a masterful way with words. The word pictures she drew at the beginning of the book drew me right in, and didn’t let me go. I liked the humorous encounters between Jax and Lena. Then, I enjoyed the flirtation as feelings developed. I really liked these two and also Lena’s daughter Katelyn. This book held my interest throughout and I was eager to see whether Jax and Lena would dare to trust and to love again. I highly recommend this story to those who enjoy reading romance novels.
Disclosure: I was given a free ARC and am voluntarily leaving this unbiased review.
Sweet storyline. Loved the kiddos in this one. Great characters.
Awesome book, definitely worth reading.
This second chance romance story was a very engaging read that pulled me right in from the very beginning! The good storyline and the well defined characters kept me totally present and turning the pages until the very end!
Reads like a Hallmark movie.
And that’s a good thing. Charming with a chance of a snowball.
I liked both Lena and Jax and can recommend this book.
Recommend.
On the surface, this is a lighthearted romance, sweetened further by Lena’s cute daughter. However, both Lena and Jax are suffering from the aftermath of their upbringing. This novel brings out the devastating effects of negative influences in our childhood and the long-term results. Lena and Jax’s initial meeting is hilarious and as they keep crossing paths, they discover an attraction that they can no longer deny, but when the past rears its ugly head, they discover they have new choices to make. Although part of a series, this novel is a standalone and comes to a happy conclusion.
Update- I was asked to read the first draft and then this rewrite. You will find both reviews below.
2nd read: This book was way too drawn out and the self talk was ridiculously repetative. I had high hopes that the rewrite would result in a much better delivery of this story but my biggest issue was Jax’s inability to sincerely apologize for his incorrect assumption of Lena. She was already fighting demons from her past that had destroyed her self confidence and yet she seemed fine with forgiving Jax’s behavior because she cared for him. And when Lena tried to get him to concede that trust went both ways he just didn’t respond. Why is Lena expected to tolerate Jax being a jerk whenever it suits him and why in the heck does she keep waffling on a relationship with a man so determined to think the worst of her? And just as bad is him comparing his childhood experiences to the abuse she suffered. Lena was fragile and wounded by her past and yes, she had baggage, but who would want to be with a man who didn’t trust or believe you.
Then there was Lena’s self depricating roller coaster – I’m broken, I’m damaged, I’m messed up, I’m a fake and a fraud, I’m a basket case, etc! Overdone and monotonous.
I didn’t like the back and forth dialogue between Lena and Jax. The author never lets either complete a thought before the other jumps in with their own comment or trying to ‘one up’ the others experiences. Neither listened or reflected the other’s feelings and it felt like they were both so busy wallowing in their own pasts that they had no compassion for the other.

1st read: There have never been two people more determined to see the worst in each other, yet not able to see the flaws in themselves.
Blogger and world traveler Lena Anderson is fed up with handsome yet angry Jaxson Prince who doesn’t know the meaning of chivalry. But it’s hard for her to ignore the connection between him and her young daughter Katelyn. When she inadvertently blows Jaxson’s cover the paparazzi descend and Lena sees Jaxon’s true character and it isn’t pretty.
Jaxson Prince is just hoping to get some skiing in while he’s in Vail for his best friend’s wedding. When a sassy petite woman is attacked by wayward snowballs he tries to help, yet it seems the beauty only wants to see the worst in him (the author did clean this scene up better). When her sweet daughter starts to wrap him around his finger what is a man to do?
Five year old Katelyn definitely steels the show in this book. Jax’s quickly developed, sweet relationship with Lena’s daughter is probably the only reason Lena and Jax have a chance at a relationship working out, but definitely the wrong reason.
I enjoyed this second chance at love story of two emotionally damaged characters. The story had all the feels and an adorable moppet named Katelyn.
New Beginnings
Has is in Vail for his friend Nicks wedding. He spots nice lady across the courtyard trying to bring in her groceries but gets hit from a snow ball and hit an ice patch.
