Can a marriage survive if deceit, lies and secrets are done all in the name of love?
This compelling book by Kerry Lonsdale is a page turner with unexpected twists that led to my reading late into the night. How could I have so many different feelings toward Ella, whom this story revolves? But WOW, it is easy to see why there are already over 2500 great reviews. This book pulled me in from the first page and I thought I knew how it would end (another ho hum) but then the author wrote an unbelievable ending that left me very glad I had the opportunity to read “Last Summer.”
Thank you Netgalley and the author for an ARC of this book for my honest review.
I finished this book and thought “Wow! What just happened?!” I thought the author did an amazing job writing all the twists and turns that are threaded throughout this book. I kept trying to figure out exactly what happened last summer that resulted in Ella forgetting key pieces of her life (how do you forget your entire pregnancy?!). Let’s just say I was no where near close to what actually happened and that is one of the things I liked best about this book – it was unpredictable! Once I started I didn’t want to put this book down because I had to know what happened.
Thank you to Lake Union Publishing and NetGalley for providing a copy for review.
Last Summer is a beautifully written book. Ella Skye is a lifestyle journalist for a major magazine. She has it all. A great career, a husband she loves, and now she’s pregnant with their first child. Until a car accident takes it all away. Her unborn child and her memory of being pregnant are gone. The memories she is left with seem to be selective. When she takes on an exclusive interview with a celebrity adventurer she finds it odd that he knows so much about her. As she spends more time with him she starts to remember. But does she really want to? This is definitely a must read book and I look forward to reading more from this author.
I was lucky enough to get an advance copy of this book. A new stand along with all the twists, turns and a complicated love triangle. Ella wakes up in a hospital and she can’t remember the past few months. She decides to revisit an old interview in the hopes it will trigger her memory but instead it just brings up more unanswered questions about what really happened that summer. Her journey to recover her memory will have you up all night turning the pages and you won’t see this ending coming. I absolutely loved this book!
Explosive Until Almost Literally The Last Word. This is yet another tale where Kerry Lonsdale superbly plays with memory to tell a truly compelling story, using different memory issues than she did in her Everything series but writing at least as well as that excellent work. If this is your first Lonsdale book, it is a great introduction to her general style and her ability to craft and tell a story that will draw you in and have you literally not wanting to put the book down. Just about the only quibble that can be openly discussed without verging close to, if not directly into, spoiler territory is that the cover, while beautiful in its own right, doesn’t seem to have anything to do with the story at all.
This is a book you’ll read in a day. Great twists right to the clever ending!
I have loved all of her books so far , and this one is no exception as it makes you want to see what happens. It is a psychological mystery and romance.
Ella Skye is a lifestyle journalist, always ready to jump into the next assignment, until one day Ella has a car accident where she loses her unborn baby and part of her memory.
When she wakes up In the hospital she can’t remember getting pregnant or anything about the pregnancy, or anything about a celebrity that she is supposed to interview again after he backed out the first time.
I don’t want to tell too much of the story as this is one that you need to read to make up your own mind about all that goes on. This story has a surprising twist and it will make you think about what love, loyalty and deception is all about.
I would like to thank NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for the ARC of this book.
Beautiful cover, intriguing characters, unexpected twist. This story kept me interested and questioning what was going to happen next, and why this and why that and all the questions were definitely answered. That twist, it was definitely not what I was expecting. My favorite characters were Nathan and Andrew, I tilt ally fell for them. I would love to read their stories.
This is a book that you don’t want to put down. There is quite a bit of mystery riddled throughout the book in what happened Last Summer. I found myself trying to solve the what’s and the how’s. I was a surprised at the ending and still thinking about it. I found myself not liking the main characters at the end with the decisions they made. Hm…..
Last Summer took me on a whirlwind journey that I’m still reeling from! This story was masterfully weaved together with the perfect amount of suspense, mystery, drama and romance. Ella Skye has an amazing job and life with her handsome, successful and dedicated husband Damien Russell until the day she wakes up in the hospital with part of her memory gone. Her selective memory loss includes an accident which caused her to lose a pregnancy that she can’t remember. Pieces of the past she’s forgotten come to light intentionally or so it seems as intuition pushes her to continue digging for the truth. When Ella meets Nathan Donovan, someone she’s “forgotten,” she uncovers more secrets, lies and keys to unlocking what she so desperately tried to forget. This story pushes the limits on what people will do in the name of love and has easily become my favorite by Kerry Lonsdale. Ella Skye’s story will stay with me forever and keep me wondering what happened next.
This indeed is a novel of love, lies and deceipt. Holy moly!! I’ve loved everything I’ve read by Kerry Lonsdale but Last Summer definitely takes the cake. A remarkable story with some amazing characters and twists and turns that shocked the heck out of me. I had no idea where the story was headed and was blown away at the end. I thought at one point I had it figured out but…nope. Not even close! This was one I was not able to put down and had it not been that I really, really had to get some sleep, I would have read it in one day. I promptly got to it the very next day as soon as I woke up. This was a pretty fantastic read. Do not miss this one!
I received an advance reader’s copy of Last Summer. All opinions are my own.
Lonsdale, fresh off her popular Everything series, shines with her page-turning stand-alone Last Summer. Readers will immediately be drawn into the story of Ella Skye, a journalist who finds herself hospitalized with short-term memory loss. Suddenly, nothing is as it seems. Not her marriage and not the man she’s been interviewing. As she tries to piece together the chunk of time seemingly lost to her, the reader is taken on an exhilarating (and sexy) journey with a surprise twist you won’t see coming. Readers, prepare yourself for a fun ride this summer!
I received an advanced copy from Net Galley.
It’s taken me a little over a week to digest Last Summer, Kerry Lonsdale’s latest and greatest novel – in order to formulate the words to write this review (which I still cannot do it justice, so this will be short and very sweet).
The story of Ella, Damien, and Nathan will have you leave you questioning – how well does one really know their spouse? What really defines love? Last Summer will definitely have you shaking your head saying – REALLY, did that JUST happen?!? (And I mean that in a great way)…
If I had the the option of 10 stars, people – 10 wouldn’t be enough for this! Kerry continues to wow her readers with her style of writing – Last Summer takes you on twists and turns which you will not see coming! Get ready to abandon your life for a day or more because you will not be able to put this book down!
Kerry Lonsdale continues to grow as a writer – I cannot wait to see what she puts forth next! Kerry Lonsdale
Whoa! What did I just read? I had to re-read the last few chapters several times making sure I caught everything! It has more twists and turns than an old country road! I loved the characters and they are so complex with many layers. This book takes you on a ride and asks the question who can you trust? It is a story of secrets, lies, love, and betrayal. This is a definite must read book if you love suspenseful, thrilling books! I received an advanced readers copy and all opinions are my own.
I received an ebook ARC for review purposes
I really enjoyed the majority of this story-it grabbed me from the start and I hated to put it down! There were a couple of parts that felt a little forced (for lack of a better word) to me, but overall this was a very solid book. That being said, I would still recommend this to anyone who enjoys psychological thrillers, twisty turns & endings, and plenty of drama. This will leave you wondering if you can ever really know the person you’ve chosen to spend your life with….
Be on the lookout when this is released in July!
First of all this book is a knockout! I absolutely could not put it down! As a reader, the story draws you in right away, by the 6th chapter I could not put it down. The momentum of the character development, complexities, and arcing and sparking lines will steam-roll you! At some point after reading for six hours straight, I accepted that I would be up all night finishing the book!
I’m not sure emotionally which characters I love, like, despise, and feel for, however, they were all astounding and perplexing!
I have had the opportunity to advance read all of Kerry’s books and this is my current favorite! I recommend it and think it would be a great introduction into her work as an author!
4.5 Stars
There is no better feeling then when I close a book and find myself unable to wipe the ear to ear grin from my face. Last Summer pushed me out of my comfort zone and took me on a twisty turning road, depositing me at a destination I didn’t expect or suspect existed. Bravo Kerry Lonsdale! I was intrigued from page one and invested the whole way through.
Last Summer is combination of women’s fiction, domestic suspense and psychological thriller with a dollop of romance. I highly recommend to readers who love any or all of these genres.
Kerry is one of my favorite authors, and I was so honored to get an ARC of this title. It was heartfelt and kept me guessing at every turn. I absolutely loved it, read it in one day! Read her other books while you wait for this to be released, as she hasn’t written a bad one yet!
“Last Summer” written by Kerry Lonsdale is an awesome book. I was drawn in from the first page and couldn’t put it down. I read it in one day because I needed to find out what happens next. I guarantee once you start reading you will not be able to put it down either. This book has so many twists and turns that will keep you guessing throughout, just when you think you have it figured out you find you weren’t even close. You will be left guessing until the very end. The characters are so well developed, complex and believable. So many red herrings…. This is a book that will stay with me a long time. This book does not disappoint, I highly recommend it. Thank you to Kerry Lonsdale for a copy of this book to read and review.
When Ella Skye wakes up in her hospital room, she doesn’t remember the accident that caused her to lose her baby—-in fact, she doesn’t remember being pregnant at all. This is the premise for Last Summer, an unputdownable, entertaining, and tantalizing book. Not only was I caught up in the twisty-turny suspense in this story, I was emotionally invested in the characters and the fact that love and pain were the catalyst for their intricate web of lies and deceit. I found myself conflicted about the choices they made and the depth of their dishonesty, because even though the characters were responsible for their questionable decisions, I could also sympathize with them. I applaud Kerry Lonsdale for her ability to gift us with brilliant storytelling, complex characters, and a story that will keep readers turning pages from the intriguing first page through the brilliant ending.
