I was really excited to start reading Last Resort.
The end of the first chapter absolutely ripped my heart out. Jo’s pain was so raw. I ached for her.
This book was written in such a way that it was as if I was on the shore alongside them hearing the waves crashing and enjoying the scent of the beach on the wind. It was brilliantly done.
The way that Jo and Olly continued to get closer and closer held me rapt. I adored these characters and couldn’t put this book down once I started.
Ashleigh G did an incredible job with this book. Last Resort was absolute perfection and will stay with me long after I set it on my shelf. The words were so perfectly written and the story so achingly beautiful. It is hard to even put into words how this story made me feel.
Last Resort is the 1st book in the Island Series. This is the other side of Ashleigh Giannoccaro. A sweet & emotional contemporary story and is Jo and Olly’s story.
Jo suffered a tragic event that leaves her not wanting to live but, now just trying to get on with life. Jo and her best friend (Liv) are renting a place on an island for the summer. Olly has been on this island for the last 8 years and is ready for a change. He also is ready for a change. Olly had been training for the Olympics when a tragedy happened. His course in life changed that day.
Olly has plans for the end of the summer and Jo isn’t part of it. So, they have the summer together. They need each other to heal.
I loved the ending & I really enjoyed the lighter side of Ashleigh! I give Last Resort 4.5 stars.
“We move together like a rock band playing a ballad, every chord an aching testament of feelings pouring from our souls.”
IS THIS THE SAME AUTHOR? Did someone kill Ash and take over her body. She traded in blood for feelings. Omg. The feelings, Yo.
At first glance, I’m like, hmmm. I don’t do lovey dovey reads. Occasionally I need them though. Something to keep some light in my life. I LOVED THIS one. It gave me back my heart and made sure I hadn’t let the darkness completely consume me. This one isn’t all lovey dovey anyway. The emotions bled from the pages. The characters truly evoke something that begs to be needed, a need you didn’t know you wanted, but were destined to. An off chance of acceptance and love! They clicked within me.
“We tell each other love stories with nothing more than a lingering look. Love can only be found on the edges of heartbreak, and we are walking a tightrope right on that edge.”
I love angst. And I’m excited to say, I didn’t want to finish this book. All the thoughts and energy was devastating to me. I’m like, nope, I’ll sit right here and hope someone will force me to read. Just read it to me, I can’t do this. I can’t do this.
“Olly, you’re going to break my heart, I know it.” She admits what I already know. “I promise to do it gently, Jo. I will keep all the pieces together so you can put it together again.”
Alright since you don’t know why I’m all flabbergasted. This story holds something that we all needed in our life. A break. A breath. It’s what keeps us sane. And I fell in love with all of it. Every bit of it. It’s fast paced, but packs one helluva punch of emotions and hope. I can’t believe the same author I’ve come to love wrote this. Not that she’s not great, it’s just more than I’ve ever felt. It’s amazing.
I absolutely LOVED this book! I have loved everything that this author has written, and when she opened herself up to writing a slightly different genre of read, I wondered how things would turn out. I was so blown away by her first endeavour in this new genre. This books is beyond brilliant!
From the start, there is depth and life in the main characters, really pulling you in, so that you want to know their story. You see a glimpse into their past and what makes them tick the way they do, live the life they are currently and see just why their next steps cause them to collide into one another. I loved getting to know them more, as Ashleigh really gave us lots of detail and little bits of their lives, to make you feel very connected with both the characters and the story.
The pace was brilliant. You definitely felt as though you were moving like the ocean, sometimes the story came crashing in at a swift pace, really taking you over by storm, and at other times it was gradual, like the tide changing, giving you time to take in the story and new information. I loved that, as it made it very exciting and great to read.
Overall, this is one brilliant read and en epic start to a new genre of reading, from such a brilliant author. I loved it and highly recommend it to all.
looking for a summer read with complicated characters – look no further!
Last Resort was a phenomenal read that gripped my heart, hit me in the feels and I loved every moment of it.
Both Olly and Jo are amazing characters that draw you in and burrow their way into your heart. A chance meeting brings the unlikely pair together and the connection they share is unforgettable. Their story is beautiful, emotional, moving and utterly captivating. My emotions ran the whole gamut from happy to sad and everything in between while reading Last Resort.
Though a bit different from other books I’ve read by this author Last Resort held me captivated until the last page. The characters are relatable and perfectly imperfect. The journey they took me on was poignant, beautiful and one I didn’t want to end. You’ll definitely want to read Last Resort asap!
