“For sheer adventure L’Amour is in top form.”—Kirkus Reviews Here is the kind of authentically detailed epic novel that has become Louis L’Amour’s hallmark. It is the compelling story of U.S. Air Force Major Joe Mack, a man born out of time. When his experimental aircraft is forced down in Russia and he escapes a Soviet prison camp, he must call upon the ancient skills of his Indian forebears … of his Indian forebears to survive the vast Siberian wilderness. Only one route lies open to Mack: the path of his ancestors, overland to the Bering Strait and across the sea to America. But in pursuit is a legendary tracker, the Yakut native Alekhin, who knows every square foot of the icy frontier—and who knows that to trap his quarry he must think like a Sioux.

It was a great read. It was written by Louis Lamour. My husband shared his Lamour collection with me forty years ago and I enjoyed every one of those books.
One fo the best Books I’ve ever read.
fantastic read by one of the greatest western authors. 3rd time reading
Beautifully written, incredibly well researched, and breath-taking actikn.
One of his best.
Great book, great author!
My favorite Louis L’Amour book. A great adventure story that is impossible to put down.
Interesting story about an area of the world that is rarely described and a society that is even less understood.
One of my favorite books of LL. I have gone thru it twice. Unbelievable how his character survived. It’s like your right there with him. Exciting!
I liked the book until the ending, seemed like the book ended in a hurry, no closure, left lots unexplained, dissappointing
This is absolutely one of my favorite Louis L’Amour books. If you followed the footsteps in his characters, you would see things exactly as he described at that time period.
Joe Mack is a captured American military pilot who escapes from a secret prison into the wilds of Siberia. His plan is to survive and to have his revenge.
Typically well written LaMour book
A classic which I’d read a long time ago but thoroughly enjoyed once more. My regret was the ending, it felt like there was another book that would wrap up the loose ends but … still a worth reading classic of the genre!
I’ve read it twice; good storytelling.
Best book I’ve read in a long time.
This is not L’Amour’s typical fare of cowboys of the old west. Yet it is one of my favorites of his writtings. The story is of an American pilot shot down over Russa and his plan of escape. Any reader of L”Amour will love this book as I do.
I really enjoyed this book and gave lots great info
One of the best ever. I have read it 5 or 6 times.
Excellent survival/ chase story set in Siberia. Escape story in more ways than one. It really seemed to need a sequel to finish the yarn but haven’t found one
Good cold war story.
