“For sheer adventure L’Amour is in top form.”—Kirkus Reviews Here is the kind of authentically detailed epic novel that has become Louis L’Amour’s hallmark. It is the compelling story of U.S. Air Force Major Joe Mack, a man born out of time. When his experimental aircraft is forced down in Russia and he escapes a Soviet prison camp, he must call upon the ancient skills of his Indian forebears … of his Indian forebears to survive the vast Siberian wilderness. Only one route lies open to Mack: the path of his ancestors, overland to the Bering Strait and across the sea to America. But in pursuit is a legendary tracker, the Yakut native Alekhin, who knows every square foot of the icy frontier—and who knows that to trap his quarry he must think like a Sioux.

always enjoyed louie l’amour’s writing and characters
Not your normal story line from Louis LAmore but a really great read. One of my all time favorites
Really enjoyed this book and was sorry for it to end.
Weak. Repetitive. Spoiler alert….. No, I won’t but don’t say I didn’t warn you.
I have read this book twice, enjoyed it both times.
What people are able to endure–This is an incredible book–will dominate your thoughts. How driven can one person be?
I enjoyed it read ir the first time many years ago. Enjoyed it the second time.
Louis L’Amour transported to Siberia. A little more book to bring the main character home would have been nice.
One of the most exciting and thrilling books I’ve ever read
One of the best books I have ever read.
I loved everything about this book. The characters were exceptional. I learned a lot about surviving.
this book is probably based on a true story. Louis L’Amour almost certainly planned a sequel to answer the questions brought up about the fate of the heroine and her uncle. An unbelievable prequel could have written based on the story of how the hero went from reservation to military school to meeting a young Richard Nixon at the Nixon family grocery store to Korean War draftee to National Guard Major to CID to CIA. Would that be too strange to be made into fiction? It is a pity that L’Amour died before writing either.
One of L’Amour’s best
Nice, havnt read Louis L’amour other than in the Westerns. I sure will read more of this type by him in the future and I greatly recommend you do the same.
Very Different for a LaMore book. Loved it.
ok, but not anywhere nearly as good as his westerns. Long drawn out middle section and then an abrupt ending.
One of LaMour’s best book of all time
Wonderful story, beautifully written. I’ve never read anything from Louis L’amour before and thought he was mostly a western author. I’m very impressed and will be reading his books now.
Mr Lamour departs the West to crate novel in Siberia set in modern times featuring heroic character escaping the evil empire (USSR). This is a great story of self reliance.
Great storyline, well-written, quite entertaining.
