Birmingham, Alabama, has lost all power. Its streets are jammed with cars that won’t start, its airport engulfed in flames from burning planes. All communications–cell phones, computers, even radios–are silent. Every home and business is dark. Is it a natural disaster . . . a terrorist attack . . . or something far worse? In the face of a crisis that sweeps an entire high-tech planet back to a … back to a time before electricity, the Branning family faces a choice. Will they hoard their possessions in order to survive–or trust God to provide as they share their resources with those around them? Yesterday’s world is gone. Family and community are all that remain. And the outage is revealing the worst in some.
Desperation can be dangerous when a killer lives among them.
New York Times bestselling suspense author Terri Blackstock weaves a masterful what-if novel in which global catastrophe reveals the darkness in human hearts–and lights the way to restoration for a self-centered world.
“Blackstock is absolutely masterful at bringing spiritual dilemmas to the surface and allowing readers to wrestle with them alongside her characters.” —RT Book Reviews, 4.5 stars (of Dawn’s Light)

This one of my all time favorite books. There are 3 more in the series that are all excellent. I’ve recommended it to all my Christian and non Christian friends. In fact, I think I’ve read everything she’s written and I’m waiting for more! Thank you Terry
I think everyone could relate to this book since we’re dealing with Covid 19.
Only problem with this book, I couldn’t stop reading the books until I finished the series.
An interesting read during the CoVid19 pandemic. With the isolation being enforced nationwide, it really made me think. The scenario’s were very well thought out, things were presented in a realistic way, even though the main characters seemed to have some really good luck. They also had faith, which makes a lot of difference in how things turn out.
One of the characters was a real “prima donna”, but that was also very realistic. When things are changed so dramatically and quickly, all of our personal flaws come to the surface and must be dealt with. Some very shocking truths need to be faced when circumstances turn your world upside down. *S*
Terrifyingly real. Wow!
This book was very well written and I loved the characters. It made you think about what is really important.
Great time to read this during our stay at home orders
This is one in a series that I could not put down. A real eye opener to the possibilities we may face
I started reading this book when I realized I had actually already listened to it on cd. It was the daughters character I remembered right off the bat and she was very unlike-able. What a selfish whiner. As story lines go, it was interesting but I couldn’t read it again.
This book left an impression on me. Definitely gives you something to think about. Very good read
I loved this book and the entire series.
Like any of Ms. Vlackstock’s book, all not just this one are easy reading without going bsck to grade school. What I like, is when you have had a hard day, you can come home. open an engaging adult book, and become lost from the garbage that you had to put up with, relax and enjoy yourself while recharging your battery for tomorrow. There is one warning though, her books are like chips and it is hard to read just one.
Very interesting in light of what is happening in our world right now.
A good book full of knowledge ! Interesting read oh a time of hardship , makes you thin of what could happen. Will you be ready in a time such as this in more ways that one ?
Would like to be able to get the 3 and 4 th books on kindle but they are not available
Terri Blackstock is a wonderful writer that brings her characters to life through her stories. This series deals with the fact the world is reverted back to living as some of our ancestors with all of the confusion that comes with the changes needed to be made in order for the characters to survive. Vandalism and stealing are rampant in the world of this series but the coming together of close communities and families to survive a world in chaos is heart warming.
I had trouble putting this book down. It might have seemed less plausible if we weren’t going through the COVID-19 pandemic right now. There were a few very scary parallels with what’s going on and how a disaster brings out the best and the worst in people. I even had a few occasions where I couldn’t remember if something was happening for real or I read it in the book.
Were all the characters fully developed, all the situations believable and was this one of the best pieces of literature I’ve ever read? No. But I gave it 5 stars because I liked it so much that I got the next one in the series.
This is an excellent read. I am looking forward to reading the whole series. It really makes you stop and think. I had a hard time putting it down.
Kept me in the edge of my seat
I have always enjoyed Terri Blackstock books.
