Birmingham, Alabama, has lost all power. Its streets are jammed with cars that won’t start, its airport engulfed in flames from burning planes. All communications–cell phones, computers, even radios–are silent. Every home and business is dark. Is it a natural disaster . . . a terrorist attack . . . or something far worse? In the face of a crisis that sweeps an entire high-tech planet back to a … back to a time before electricity, the Branning family faces a choice. Will they hoard their possessions in order to survive–or trust God to provide as they share their resources with those around them? Yesterday’s world is gone. Family and community are all that remain. And the outage is revealing the worst in some.
Desperation can be dangerous when a killer lives among them.
New York Times bestselling suspense author Terri Blackstock weaves a masterful what-if novel in which global catastrophe reveals the darkness in human hearts–and lights the way to restoration for a self-centered world.
“Blackstock is absolutely masterful at bringing spiritual dilemmas to the surface and allowing readers to wrestle with them alongside her characters.” —RT Book Reviews, 4.5 stars (of Dawn’s Light)

Terri Blackstock is an absolutely wonderful writer. LAST LIGHT is one of those books that not only takes you to another place while you are reading but it grabs your attention from the very beginning and it keeps you interested and begging for more. Take it from me, if you read this book… make doggone sure that you have ALL of the books in this series before you start reading because if you don’t and you have to wait; you will be a nervous wreck by the time you get the next book.
I really enjoyed this “post-apocalyptic” thriller about people coping with the sudden loss of modernity. There’s a lot of opportunity to see characters rising to the occasion.
I loved this book and the other three in this series as well! My book club read it and most of them read all 4 even though we only reviewed the first one! This will make you think about what is really important and what is not!
This book was a page turner. I read the whole series. One of the best I’ve read.
I have mixed feelings about LAST NIGHT, book one in THE RESTORATION series. The book is a Christian take on the Rapture as described in THE BOOK OF REVELATIONS located in the Christian bible. The author did a great job describing the chaos of the sudden disappearance of millions of people is fascinating.
Unfortunately, I found one of main characters incredibly annoying. The idea that a 22 year old with the maturity of a preteen could graduate college is genuinely unbelievable. I felt a bit insulted that the author wanted me to buy into that specific character.
So, if you can get past what I consider to be an obnoxious character (and it’s probably just me), you just might enjoy it.
It grabbed me at the first page, I liked it so much that I bought the whole collection, not only on Kindle but in the paperback. It’s been a long time that a book has grabbed my attention so much that I couldn’t put it down and decide to purchase the whole collection in Kindle and paperback. I highly recommend it,you will see that once you read the first book, “The Last Light” you will want to read all of them.
Blackstock kept me on the edge of my seat with this one. There were a few parts that dragged just a tad but the pace picked up soon enough and kept me engaged. I plan to go on to book two just to see where this story ends up!
Part of a good series!
Good quick read.
Last Light was the first Terri Blackstock book I read. I couldn’t put it down because it was so compelling. I have read the majority of her books by now because they never disappoint. I highly recommend this book.
Scary that this could actually happen but I grew up without most of the conveniences that went away without power. The stories in the book were interesting and heart-tugging with the plight of the children. Read for my book club a few years ago.
Really Enjoyed this book!
It got in my head. Sometimes I would wake up and think I was living it.
Well written, realistic sounding, inspiring and at times uncomfortable, like life. This book is hopeful in its outcomes.
Good story but this series took me awhile to get through. Moved slow for me.
This book made me want to stock up on provisions!
I enjoyed the short discussion of Matthew 6:25-34. The Banning children whined and complained an awful lot about the duties they had to perform. That got irritating but my children do the same thing sometimes! We live simply on purpose but they lack appreciation as the Banning children did.
This book gets a 2.5 from me and I won’t read the rest of the series, although I would like to know what happens. I have read quite a few of Blackstock’s books and this one is just not nearly as satisfying as some of them.
In a dystopian type of scenario, the author describes a family’s efforts to survive after a massive EMP attack, and the things that happen in a formerly wealthy neighborhood. The characters are described as having such difficulty that it changes their formally shallow perspectives on life. For myself, it lacked depth and seemed very predictable.
Favorite series!
Loved this series. Hated to see it end.
