Her
She’s the definition of lost. Doesn’t know her name? Check. Cruelly beaten within an inch of her life? Check. No memory of anything that’s happened since she woke up from that beating? Check. Losing a child she doesn’t remember conceiving? Check. She hasn’t felt anything but lost in a very long time. Then an old biker tells her danger is on the horizon. He sends her to a man that she … that she instantly feels a connection with. A bone deep connection.
Him
He’s the definition of despair. After the death of his young wife while on a tour of duty in Afghanistan, he hasn’t seen the appeal of participating in the world around him. He’s lost the only thing he ever loved. He’s been a shell of the man he once was. His only escape from reality is feeling the wind in his hair, going as fast as he can get his old Harley to take him. That’s the only time he can push his demons back far enough to feel peace. That is until she screams his name.

Jack has been a character that I have had a curiosity about ever since the first book in this series. You are told that he doesn’t date, in fact that he doesn’t give any female the time of day. There was a story there that was for sure, and there sure was. One of a lost love and one of living again.
Jack and Winter’s story was one that had my heart hurting. You can tell that they loved each other. And when she returns there is nothing in the world that Jack wants more than to finally live. Things come to light with Winter’s return that puts them in danger of loosing one another again. But, it is their strength and determination to never loose each other again that helps them through the challenges that arise.
The women from the previous books help provide some of the humor that I have come to love in the other books. Another one added to my re-read list.
Another heartbreaking and heartwarming read from Lani Lynn Vale! I’m still absorbing everything I got with Last Day of My Life that I’m going to sum everything up with highlights.
Winter and Jack met, fell in love, got married real quick, and he was sent off to war. He left her in good hands with his family and best friend.
Fast forward 7 years and we realize that Jack lost his wife to a violent assault. At least that’s what he believed until a woman, who looks a lot like his wife, shows up and starts screaming his name.
Winter has no memory of who she is, who Jack is, but when she was in danger, it was Jack that she ran to.
I love a good amnesia story and I loved that the author didn’t conclude it quickly but also didn’t draw it out.
Adam’s funeral… heart… broken. It actually brought tears to my eyes and I feel that the author captured the scenes quite beautifully.
During the 7 years of their separation, these two were with No. One. Else!
It seemed that Jack and Winter couldn’t catch a break. The suspenseful scenes were amazing! However, between a death, an assault, silly shenanigans, friends going through some ish (I’m looking at both Taima and James) and attempted murder, their love for one another persevered. I loved this couple!
Jack and Winters story was soo good. But it did make me cry a few times.
I loved all the twist and turns and comedy that this story had. You definitely need to read it if you have not read it yet.
An emotionally heartbreaking but beautiful journey to go on with Jack and Winter. They both endured so much and deserved to be happy. My heart was broken but slowly it was pieced back together again, leaving me breathless in the end. Phenomenal story!
Winter and Jack’s story broke me a little. When I read how Winter was treated and how much Jack suffered I loved and hated it so much. Loved their story but hated the struggles they both faced with and without each other. This story had so many twists and turns that just simply left me breathless. I loved their chemistry and how no matter what happened Winter and Jack were pulled together. Highly recommend this book, author and series!!!
This is my second time around for Winter and Jack’s story and it doesn’t matter how many times I read this book it rips my heart out each and every time. This is a second chance romance with a twist, one that you will not be prepared for. The hurt, pain and total devastation that two people have suffered but ultimately have remained connected in some way not really giving up. Their story will teach you to live each day like it is your last with the ones that you love. A story that is not only soul-stirring but poignant with how much these two love each other. Action packed, drama filled and let’s not forget the hilarious moments that only these characters from Freebirds can bring to such an emotional story to bring a beautiful balance.
I didn’t read the blurb. I read it blind because it was recommend to me by Kodie and I’m glad I read it, because it was an incredible story
It was a beautiful and very emotional book about love, loss and second chance in life and love.
This book is a haywire between amazing moments with sweet, swoony and hot love story and a complete chaos just a few pages later.
The constant and rapid change from peaceful to dangerous makes this book extremely exciting and gripping.
I have experienced all emotions with this book.
I laughed at the unique humor of the characters and cried with the same characters, about their incredibly sad and inhumanly hard life stories.
I can’t give you more without spoilers but I’ll definitely read the rest of this incredible series.
Jack and Winter’s story was a little more intense. While most of the stories have the same feel, it was still different. So far, I think Winter is my favorite heroine. On to the next! Enjoy!
Wow, this is another awesome read from Lani Lynn Vale. She, of course, had me laughing. I also cried, those damn funeral scenes get me every time.
This is Jack’s story.
I’ve loved all these men, but Jack is my favorite right now. He married Winter 7 years ago, by proxy, while he was deployed. He didn’t know that she would be gone a short while later. He hasn’t been with anyone else since her. He loves her so much, he can’t move on after learning of her brutal death.
Winter was found on the side of the road severely beaten and no memory of anything. One day, 7 years later, a bearded biker gave her money and a name and told her to go there so she was safe.
Memories start coming back. It’s almost like her and Jack pick right back up where they left off at.
The memories don’t all come flooding back at once though. Things around her trigger them.
Now, of course, the little sayings at the start of each chapter had me cracking up.
“I saw you have tattoos and a real job, excuse me while I take of my clothes.”
“It’s not the size of the ship, nor the motion of the ocean. It’s whether the captain stays in port long enough for all the passengers to get off.”
“Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Translation: Bitches be crazy, so don’t fuck with them.”
I must say this series gets better and better as you go. The Free community is one band of ex-military that take care of the people they hold dear. Jack is so lost and only feels right when he is on his Harley. Winter doesn’t even know who she is. But as with all of Lani’s characters they will draw you in and keep you on the edge of your seat til the last word, then leave you wanting so much more.
