Scarlett is trying to save her grandfather’s farm, but the place is a huge mess. Hudson is a cowboy mechanic who offers to help her fix up the broken down cars on the ranch. Can Hudson fine tune Scarlett’s heart as they work together? Or will things backfire and make everything worse at Last Chance Ranch?Scarlett Adams has had enough. Enough of men breaking her heart. Enough of her boss saying … her boss saying she needs to do better. Enough of the traffic and hustle of the city. So when the opportunity to take over her grandfather’s horse ranch in the hills of California comes along, she jumps at it. She’d rather spend her time with horses, dogs, and goats than honking cars, power suits, and men who don’t call back.
And she’s finally happy.
Hudson Flannigan knows three things: horses, cars, and that he’s never going to make his father proud. Not only that, but he’s disappointed his mother too. Well, his ex-wife did that when she found someone else to love, but its somehow Hudson’s fault.
When Scarlett needs help getting the rundown ranch back into shape, she hires Hudson to get all the vehicles into proper working order. The spark between them is instant and hot, but neither of them wants to endure another painful breakup. Can Scarlett and Hudson find the faith and forgiveness they need to fix themselves as they restore Last Chance Ranch to its former glory? Or will this fine-tuning of their hearts backfire and leave them more broken than before?

Enjoyed the characters and their lives especially the h and H. Liked how they healed from previous emotional injuries. Would have liked to see how some other characters had progressed.
Loved the down to earth characters.
An amazing start to a new series with this well written heartwarming sweet standalone romance story. This engaging storyline was smooth flowing where the characters really learn to reestablish the confidence and self esteem that they have previously lost while finding feelings for each other. A truly smooth flowing enjoyable mature couple clean Christian romance.
Hard to put down!
Good clean romance which focuses on adults with history of difficulties and how they overcame them. I like the “good-scout” ethic of the cowboy character.
I am a new fan of Liz Isaacson.
Starting Anew
Scarlett came to live with her grandfather and to help restore the ranch, after her divorce finally went through. They took in animals that need second chances. Hudson has been in the road for 13 months after his divorce and selling of his business. Something just seemed to work out for them both.
Love this new series by Liz Isaacson. It’s heart warming and fast. A great mix when you just want to escape the world.
When a divorced woman is called to go back to her grandfather’s ranch to help out, she never believed she would find her happily ever after. A true to life story of how sometimes the children or grandchildren have to come back and help care for the parents of grandparents when they start to get older and unable to care for themselves and in this case his many animals. Not the life she had, but it became the only life she wanted. It was a labor of love and became her life’s joy.
Scarlett Adams escapes from her life in the city with her now ex-husband and takes over management of her grandfather’s ranch, Second Chance Ranch. She would much rather deal with dogs, cats, horses, and goats than the crowds and noise of city life. But she can’t do it alone. When Hudson Flannigan appears in her driveway with one of her dogs in tow, he appears to be an answer to her prayers.
They both have issues that will complicate their relationship, both professional and personal. Scarlett is not a skinny ingenue. She’s an adult (40+) with curves and some body image issues while trying to save a neglected ranch that holds precious memories for her. Hudson is also an adult with issues – a cheating wife with resulting divorce and estrangement from his family. They need to work together to make the ranch and their lives a success.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, particularly because the characters are mature, but still with complications to resolve and the ability to fall in love again.
I received this book as an ARC. My opinion is my own.
Loved it. Liz always keeps me captivated from beginning to end. Full of clean, whimsical romance that kept a smile on my face and a light in my heart. Five stars as always Liz.
I absolutely love Liz Isaacson, I love her writings and the series she always seems to create beginning with a single novel. In “Her Last First Kiss,” we find two middle aged adults- different from the typical storyline- who have both been burned by previous marriages and who also would like nothing to do with another relationship or love. However, they both wind up at “Last Chance Ranch,” where anything is possible with faith the size of a mustered seed. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel with all of it’s wonderful characters, and I would have easily given it a five if only it would not have had so many different storylines woven into one. The initial characters and their journey was more than enough to keep readers engaged and interested, we did not need the other three or four massed in. I still recommend this novel as a quick and easy read, and just like with any of Ms. Isaacson’s other novels- you will not be disappointed.
Scarlet and Hudson are in their forties – love reading about “older” couples (I’m 53). They both have past heartache and are trying to move on. Insecurities are a hindrance and there is angst of course. Really sweet, clean, romantic and Christian emphasis.
A lovely story with mature characters who fall in love. The story covers all the insecurities of aging, fear of loving again, problems with family members, and learning to trust. I highly encourage you to read this book. (I received an advanced reader copy from the author. The review is my honest opinion.)
I liked the fact that a 40 something year old couple had a chance at love. The ranch with all of the rescue animals was just darling. It was fun that the animals lives were entwined in the story. It touched on the struggles of a divorced person and their feelings of inadequacy.
I loved this lovestory. I loved the various animals in it. I love the family harmony restored. I loved the emphasis on church & family.
I love the beginning of the Last Chance Ranch series!!!! Hudson and Scarlett’s sweet love story is a must read. I especially like that the characters are older and more experienced and that they are putting their lives back on track with God’s help! I can’t wait to read the next in the series!
Her Last First Kiss is a well written romance about a couple whose first spouses had left them, leaving them with some self doubt In addition, Scarlett is a size 14 and doubts that any man would find her attractive enough to stay around permanently. The characters’ faith is woven very naturally into the story. The plot has some twists and moved along at a good pace. I loved the fact that the ranch served as a shelter for a wide variety of animals. Liz Isaacson has written some swoon worthy kisses in the story. There is a lovely HE A for the couple. I received an ARC. I chose to write a review and share my opinion.
