Foster girl. Trash. That’s all I am to the world. And that’s fine. After surviving New Jersey’s foster system, I can survive anything. Even taking a dangerous job from a tall, gorgeous stranger so I can keep my little sister safe—a job that goes very, very wrong.
Suddenly I’m facing a brutal choice: a decade in jail or four years as a ward of Talonswood Reform Academy—a place with an all too … all too perfect correction record. A place that makes bootcamp look like a spa.
But Talonswood and its cruel cadets are far more than they seem, and so are the four men who rule it. Ellis. Asher. Reese. Cassis. Powerful, impossibly beautiful men who ignite a wildfire inside me—and who will stop at nothing to make my life a living hell.
But it turns out I’m more than I seem, too. And I’m not going down without a fight.
LAST CHANCE ACADEMY is a full length dark reverse harem paranormal romance. This is the first of four books in Immortals of Talonswood, a new series from Amazon’s top-100 author Alex Lidell. With hot shifter-fae, delicious vampires, one lone witch, Talonswood isn’t your normal reform school.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book! Colorful, multi-dimensional characters draw you in, a wonderful mix of a real world with all its ugliness and the world of magic. This heroine might yet be my most favorite one out of all the ones written by Alex – strong, smart, independent, a survivor of unimaginable hardships that are all to real in our world. Can’t wait for the rest of it. I did take half a star away for the cliff hanger.

I am always a little wary when reading books that are ‘academy’ themed, but that was pretty much overruled by my knowledge of Power of Five and Great Falls Academy and I was not disappointed. You can clearly see who will be in the harem, but personally I saw that as adding to the story as I could pay closer attention to Sam’s interactions with the gents and their responses (or lack thereof) to her. There was no insta-love which was amazing, even though her relationship with Ellis did move faster than the others, but hey thats life.
The academy trope is a commonly seen setting, but each author can bring in their own creativity that makes them all unique.

Sam was brought up in the foster care system and is now a hired thief. She is hired by Ellis to do a job, which she completes. He then wants to hire her to steal a music box for 10,000. When Sam breaks in and finds the box Ellis is there, wants her to hand over the box. Instead she opens it and touches the red egg inside. Now she is a target. Sam jumps out the 2nd story window but gets caught by the police. She gets sent to the last chance academy which is in between the fae world and human world. She finds out she is a witch, but she does not really believe that. Ellis gets punished by having to keep Sam alive. This is a fast paced read that I couldn’t put down. Cannot wait for the next installment.

Lidell does it again with the start of a new series that mixes mystery, supernatural, power plays, and steamy romance all together into an addicting read. This is the start Sam’s adventure to finding out who she really is, even though she never thought anything was missing. All the characters introduced in this new series were great , both beautiful and very dangerous. I loved how Sam start’s the book as a simple human thrust into a crazy world of violence but keeps her spunk and attitude. The story was wildly addicting and hard to put down as I had to see what would happen next.
Yes. Yes. Yes. That’s all I can say about this new series! I’m really looking forward to this new adventure. It has a lot of potential and I’m super curious about where Alex Lidell will take us. This is a bit different from Power of Five but I’m excited! This book does share a lot of commonalities with Power of Five but I think there will be a lot of surprises. I can’t wait to read the next one!
Overall: 4.5/5

Loved her Power of Five series so it wasn’t a hardship for me to pick this story up and find myself lost in an another amazing world where there’s plenty to satisfy your reading time. Action, mystery, magic, bullying, steamy sex scene, enemy-to-lovers, four hot men and a heroine that you can not help yourself feel for her.
If you wanted to read something light and with a lot of academy classes this first book will leave you disappointed. But that wasn’t my case and stories told in multiple POVs makes my reading time so much more enjoyable and my favorite kind of read. Can’t wait to see what happens next.

This is such a great start to a series. An academy of faes and vampires, with a new found witch forced to join. Political intrigue and rivalry guaranteed to blow you mind. Fast paced with intricate and complex world building, I would love to give more than 5 stars!

Holy crap, I was not prepared for this book! It was dark and took be on a wild ride but I loved every single second of it. The world, the characters, the supes, everything drew me in and I want more.
Samantha, Sam, is one of those main characters that you can’t help but route for. She was a foster kid and has gone through so much, she doesn’t trust easily but still finds it in her heart to care for a younger foster sister who is still in the system. Sam does whatever she can to survive and help her foster sister. Her spunk reminds me of myself, when I was younger I had to stand up for myself a lot and I didn’t let people walk all over me and in that way Sam reminds me of my younger self. Sam had truly horrible things happen to her but she wouldn’t let them take all her control, they couldn’t take her stubbornness, her determination.
I knew that Talonswood Academy is where supernatural delinquents end-up after some disaster of course but I didn’t expect the military type school that was some twisted form of hell. Poor Sam is pretty much the only one of her kind and the others make her life a-living-hell but she tries not to let it get to her while I, on the other hand, would have completely lost it.
Last Chance Academy is dark, full of both verbal and physical abuse, bullying, politics, and other triggers but it was interesting figuring out what happened in the past and how that comes to reflect on Sam in the present. The story has multiple layers to it, not only is it an enemy-to-lovers paranormal romance but it’s a dark reverse harem with bully romance, I mean I didn’t even know a writer could combine all of those and still have the story work, but it did. I don’t even care too much for bully romance but this story has my attention.
The story is told from multiple povs, Sam of course and the four guys who seem to be her possible love interests. This is one difficult reverse harem because everyone is going through their own stuff and while they do feel a certain way they let the past hold them back, but Sam does try, she tries to understand her new world, tries with the guys who are jerks (to the extreme) and while there was a steamy moment these people are gonna have to work through a lot and deal with a lot because the world they live in is dangerous and stubborn. I am really curious to see how Sam is going to get to each one of them and what is going to happen when she does.
This is my first Alex Lidell book and I am hooked, it has angst, danger, politics, murder, steam, horrible history, deadly secrets, magic and so much more. I have a few questions that I am most definitely sticking around to get answers to. If only those stubborn males realize that they have met their match with Sam, and like Sam, I am ready for whatever is thrown next.
Last Chance Academy (Immortals of Talonswood 1, PRN Dark Reverse Harem Academy Romance) is a suspenseful beginning to this series. Samantha (Sam) Devinee is a product of the New Jersey foster care system and unbeknownst to her, a witch. She lands in the Talonswood Reformatory Academy when the police arrest her for stealing. What is believable and likable about Sam is that she is stronger than she knows. She puts up a tough front that does not work with supernaturals as it did in the foster care system. With everything she has been through as a foster child, she risks her freedom to get money so that Janie, her foster sister, can live safely. I began rooting for Sam the minute she went to speak with her former foster mother about paying her a stipend to keep Janie safe. She has a big heart and is nowhere as hard as she wants you to believe. Enter Ellis, one of the four horsemen, who rocks her world in many ways, and one of those ways is one of the many twists in this story. As she meets the other horsemen, Asher, Cassis, and Reese, she finds an attraction to and for each. There is a bit of a mystery in the story that adds to the suspense. Supernatural action and a really hot moment between Ellis and Sam are part of the moments that keep you engaged. The book ends with a bit of a cliffhanger that makes you wonder where this is going. I have to pick up the next book to find out!

This was such a great read! Not totally surprised since this is an Alex Liddell book but seriously I loved it. Sam is quite the heroine, a foster kid, now an adult given a tough choice – prison or 4 years at a reformatory academy. With someone depending on her she takes the shorter sentence but ends up discovering some eye opening truths about herself and the world. The world isn’t fully human and she isn’t either. Sadly for her she’s a hated “species”. At the academy she finds herself drawn to 4 males who have quite a bit of a past together. So much to unpack, so many secrets to unravel, so many players to watch.
One of my favorite things about Alex’s writing is the character development and the relationships between the characters. This book was no exception. I’ve become invested in Sam, her survival, her growth and finding the power within. I can’t wait to see how she owns this world and the males. I’m also excited to see how her individual relationships will blossom as well as the group dynamic. That ending certainly left me wanting more though. Completely worth picking up.
This book pulled me in right from the beginning. The characters were well developed and well thought out. I really enjoyed the unique characteristics that the author chose for the vampires, fae, and witches. It wasnt your run-of-the-mill old wisetales. Sam is a strong, independent, and sassy heroine but at the same time is kind, understanding, and loyal. Athlough she has been through alot of hardship in her life she puts on a brave face and is humble about what she has in life. The male leads have a very interesting back story connecting them together (that i cant wait to find out more about) as well as being super hot and very interesting characters all individually. I wish the book was longer because i wasnt ready for it to end! A few grammatical errors but nothing that would ruin the book for me. Cant wait for the next book!

As always, Alex Lidell does not disappoint! This was a complete page turner and I could not put the book down, finishing it within an hour of getting my copy! The book is gripping, highly enjoyable and much recommended. The book has everything you’d want in a paranormal romance, a bold, brave and well rounded female lead that ticked all my inner feminist boxes, and an amazing romantic storyline running along the exciting plot. My review of this book cannot do justice to just how much I enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed this book.
The characters have depth and the writing is good.
A definite recommended read.
*spoilers*
I’ve been a bit burnt out on the Academy RH tropes, but when Alex Lidell released Last Chance Academy I knew without a doubt that I could not pass it up.
The story starts by introducing us to our badass, headstrong, take no crap female MC, Samantha aka Sam. Sam has no idea what she is or that supernaturals are real. Something she finds out all too quickly after a taking a job from one our male MCs, Ellis. When the job goes wrong, Sam finds herself with two choices…life in prison or four years at Talonswood Academy. We all know which choice any of us would take in a heartbeat. Sam goes into the academy knowing that it will be another prison, if not significantly tougher.
Despite the unwelcoming audience of her peers and cadres once it’s known that she is a witch and possibly the last one, she does not allow anyone to break her spirit.Grueling workouts and supernaturals that hate her simply for existing are just the tip of iceberg in the problems she’s about to face. Sam must work hard not only to survive, but to discover her magic and how to use it. To top it all off, she needs to figure out why her magic is connecting her to these four males.
We mainly get to know Casis and Ellis in this book, but we are introduced to Asher and Reese. Lidell shows us enough of each of the males that you just can’t wait too learn more about them as well as how each one will play a part in the RH. Book 1 does well mixing the current day plot with the back story that we get a feel for what makes each of the characters tic, but we’re still on the edge waiting to learn more.
I am already wicked stocked for book 2 and cannot wait to see what happens next for our group!
