4 1/2 STARS!
Passion, turmoil and real life problems! With the next book in the Las Vegas Sidewinders series, we get another step forward in hockey life with the coach’s story. The main characters have reached the age where they want comfort and enjoyment of life and they seem to easily find that with each other, but the ever present drama in the lives of young adults and kids may be more than their relationship can withstand. Really enjoyed it!
Former pro hockey player Jared Wylde seemed to have lost it all a decade ago when an injury led to him losing his career at the same time that his marriage imploded and left him picking up the pieces of his body as well as his life afterwards. He went on to coach college hockey, but is now getting the opportunity of a lifetime with the offer of the head coach position for the Las Vegas Sidewinders.
Romance novelist Renee DeSantos thinks she’s living the good life after surviving the loss of her husband many years ago and going on to raise their daughter into adulthood while having a successful writing career. It’s only after she hooks up with Jared at a party for what they both say is just for a good time that she realizes what she’s been missing. There’s an easy connection there that she hasn’t felt in a really long time … but when a son he knew nothing about surfaces, it’s going to rock her stable life … maybe more than she can handle!
Get your wee handheld fan out cause you gonna needs it for the hot times within the book! Jared and Renee have already done a lot in life both have been married, both are now single they have an instant that even though they didn’t expect it they are drawn to each ….thats the easy part. Things start out simple but then they are tested to almost breaking point and you are turning the page to see if not only will they last but also what will happen with both Braden and Daisy. Definitely get comfy as there is a lot going on in this book and you wont want to put it down until the end and I dare you not to shed a tear with the limousine scene at the end!
I have only read a couple of books from Kat Mizera and have found them all to be highly entertaining and well written.
Jared Wylde is a divorced former hockey player who has just scored the head coaching position for the Las Vegas Sidewinders. After celebrating winning the cup, he meets and is instantly attracted to another party goer, Renee DeSantos.
Renee is a bestselling romance author who is not afraid to go after what or who she wants. The attraction between Jared and Renee is electrifying and they fall quickly into bed and just as fast find themselves in a relationship that neither were expecting.
Renee is happy in the life she has, the mother of a 19 year old daughter who is studying in Switzerland, she is more than satisfied with the friends with benefits relationship she finds herself in with Jared. All that is about to change when Jared gets the shocking news that his ex wife has died and he has a 9 year old son he knew nothing about.
As Jared and Renee struggle to juggle the intense chemistry between them along with the shocking news of Jared’s paternity and what it means for their blossoming relationship, tensions rise.
Will their fledgling relationship be able to withstand the pressures of professional ice hockey and the life of a best selling author? Can Jared bring love and security to a young boy, devastated by the death of his mother and forced through circumstances to live with a father who never new he existed? Will Renee be able accept that Jared’s son is now a permanent part of his life and that their relationship has changed forever?
The story is engaging and the characters so easy to relate too and the secondary characters are just as entertaining. I really love the banter and camaraderie between Jared and his team. The women are an absolute hoot as they offer advice and support to Renee.
All in all a great addition to what is a great hockey series.
The new coach for the Sidewinders will have you falling in love! Ashley @ Carolina Chic’s Read
Jared is called up to be the new temporary assistant coach and helps the team to win the championship will this temporary move become a permanent one. Renee is a successful women who has overcome obstacle as a widow with a small child to a bestselling author and thinks she has it all and doesn’t need anymore. When Jared and Renee meet there are sparks that these two cannot deny but will their fears and the unknowns stand in the way? Kat does it again I hate seeing the Sidewinders series wind down but the boys just keep getting hotter!!!!
Jared was a very entertaining, emotional read! I loved it!
Jared and Renee were great for each other! Their relationship was moving along great until the past catches up with Jared and throws his world upside down! Jared and Renee story has a lot of drama, twists, and hot, steamy, sexiness! This was an amazing story! It grabbed me from the first! I couldn’t put it down! It had twists and turns that keep you reading to see what happens!
Thank you Kat for another fantastic book! I can’t wait for the next book!
I really enjoyed this new book in the Sidewinders series. This one was almost like starting a new series. With A new head coach & a new assistant coach …. it sounds like the beginning of a beautiful series. I enjoyed Jared & Renee & how they were able to bring their blended family together for a wonderful HEA.
Book 13 already of the Las Vegas Sidewinders and this book focuses on the new assistant coach Jared and author Renee, who we have meet in ons of the previous books. This can be read as a standalone.
I loved the fact that Renee is a romance author and this book gives in a life trying to balance her job with everything else going on. Writing, the book, doing edits and a signing. Jaed isn’t perfect, but that make him reald. Because nobody’s perfect and we all make mistakes. We just do what we can and hope it is good enough.
This is a bit of a second chance romance, but there are a lot of obstacles. I loved reading about all their doubts, worries, sadness but also the hope and love.
Jared, the new head coach for the Sidewinders has found the perfect woman. Renee the widowed author with a grown daughter has found the perfect man. Or so they think. Can a secret from Jared’s past that he knew nothing about destroy everything they have built? This book had me engrossed from the start and I did not expect the little twist in there. Very heartfelt read.
Kat Mizera prevails with JARED (Las Vegas Sidewinders #13). In this story, Jared Wylde is offered the job as head coach of the Las Vegas Sidewinders. He meets best-selling romance author Renee DeSantos. They have immediate chemistry and begin to develop a relationship when unexpected circumstances become an issue. This contemporary sports romance is suitable for adult audiences. It takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada and Switzerland.
Kat Mizera does a great job with her characters. I like Jared and Renee. They are in their late thirties and set in their ways. They were both previously married to someone: Jared divorced, and Renee widowed. They have both suffered loss that left them scarred in different ways. Recently, Jared’s life has completely changed. They are both cautious about the next steps to take in their lives. They both do some soul searching. I like that Jared reads one of Renee’s books. My heart went out to Braden. He is an adorable boy who has gone through a great deal.
The plot was well structured and believable. I like that it went from Las Vegas to Switzerland and back again. I appreciated Daisy and Zio being together. They had an interesting impact on the storyline. The novel had a great ending. JARED is a solid addition to the Las Vegas Sidewinders series. I recommend this book to people that enjoy sports romances. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
Jared is a temporary new addition to the coaching staff of the Sidewinders. Renee is an author ( I love this about her) and a friend of the Sidewinders via the wives club. They meet and the sparks immediately fly. It was not smooth sailing for Jared and Renee. When they finally seem to be moving forward Jared is hit with something he never saw coming. Jared stole my heart and his story will stay with me for a while.
I received a review copy of this book before release for an honest review.
This was a wonderful older aged romance story. It is about the Sidewinders but more in the off season so not much hockey is featured in the story.
This is about Renee who we met in Nate’s story, she is good friends/works with Chelsea who Nate ended up dating.
Renee is a strong 39 year old woman with an 18 year old daughter and is a rich author. She married very young but he died when her daughter was 3. Since then she has had one night stands and a few romances but nothing serious. She really is happy with her single, childless life and her friendships.
Enter Jared, he has been a part of the Sidewinders as their coach because the former coach had a heart attack. He has been a part of the team for 10 days when he meets Renee and they end up having a one night stand.
But the two really like each other and so they become friends who also date. But R is going to Europe for the summer and guess who else is also. The book gets really fun in Europe and I am not spoiling what happens there. Life kinda gets complicated for these two and they have to weather some storms.
I really liked both characters and I even loved Zio and the daughter. But at times I felt the obstacles were too much for these two. I loved them a lot and really enjoyed seeing this series with older characters.
A side note R is 39 and Jared is 35 so while she is older than him, it was not by much and they both are in the same stage in their lives. I don’t typically like older woman romances but in this case I really enjoyed it.
Renee DeSantos is finally living life the way she wants to. Having struggled to raise a daughter as a single parent after her husband died, she’s now a best selling romance author with her child in college. She loves her life in Vegas and isn’t looking for anything right now but a little bit of fun.
Jared Wylde is ready to tackle life on his terms. Sidelined ten years ago by an accident that not only ended his professional hockey career but also his marriage, he’s ready to take on his first head coaching job at the pro level. He’s ready to move on from his past and towards a bright new future . . . and a one night stand with a sexy woman is just icing on the cake.
While neither was looking for serious, as they both had baggage, they were ready to look towards the future as a couple as long as they stay on the same page . . . no more kids and a true understanding of the time commitments both of their careers require. Just lots of companionship and fun. But, Jared’s past and Renee’s future come barging in turning their simple, easy relationship into anything but. They’ll both need to decide if this is the path they want to take together or if they are better off going their separate ways.
First of all, I loved that Kat brought readers a more mature couple. It was fabulous to see characters that were nearing 40 and had already lived and learned coming together for a new chance at happiness.
I absolutely loved Renee’s character! She rocks. I love that she took control of her life and did what she needed to in order to raise her child and that she now has a career she loves. She is living her best life now, even if she is a bit lonely. She knows what she wants from her future (at least she thinks she does) and she has a great relationship with her daughter Daisy, even when tough love is needed
Jared is sexy and dominant and a bit of a romantic. He’s just what Renee needs to ease her loneliness. When a huge surprise comes knocking on his door, however, he’s completely overwhelmed and I loved how real the author made that feel. He needs Renee more than ever . . . but can she give him what he needs and keep herself happy? It was a very real emotional struggle and gave amazing depth to the storyline.
As always Kat Mizera has knocked another book out of the park! So much heat! So much drama! Just so so good! 5 stars
Jared Wylde is tapped to fill in as an assistant coach for the Las Vegas Sidewinders. I almost felt like he was drifting a bit, still bitter about the accident that ruined his professional career and cost him his marriage. When he meets Renee DeSantos, a bestselling romance author, she catches his attention, and she is interested in Jared. Renee lost her husband many years ago but is still afraid to risk her heart in another relationship.
I liked reading what each of them were thinking/feeling while they were unable to be honest with each other, both leery of being hurt. With a nice selection of hockey players and their wives from previous books, plus some new characters, it was really fun to read. Plus there were twists and turns and although I knew they would get their happy ever after, Kat kept me guessing how she was able to get these two together.
I received an ARC from the author and this is my honest review.
I love the Las Vegas Sidewinders series. They are filled with amazingly hot hockey players and the passion they find on and off the ice. Jared is no different. Well maybe a little. You get a little less hockey and more passion and family with this one. I for one am okay with that considering Jared isn’t a player but the new coach so there is less teammate dynamic that is needed for the story. This can be read as a complete standalone because of that. But you do still get many familiar faces throughout. I love Jared. He is sweet and level headed and he knows what he wants when Renee enters his world. Renee….I have a love and a little dislike of her. But really I get it once you really read this and get to know her. I do have to say that her relationship with her daughter Daisy is amazing. Renee is an amazing mom and author who is ready for the next phase of her life yet doesn’t want a relationship. Then Jared breaks down those relationship walls like no other. You feel for Jared when his world gets flipped upside down and inside out. Watching Renee and Jared navigate this new loop was interesting to watch. You will love their chemistry and how they work together to figure how they manage this new relationship through everything. By the end of this read like all of the books I’ve read by Kat Mizera my heart was stolen and I fell in love with Jared and Renee like I did the rest of the Sidewinders. This is an amazing hockey romance that needs to be read.
A lot of changes are taking place now that the Sidewinders have won the cup! The first of the changes is adding a new head coach to the team and Jared is the perfect choice. His move comes with an even bigger benefit when he meets Renee. They have immediate chemistry but neither are interested in starting a relationship, but life has other plans as they each realize that they have a lot in common and want to simply spend time together. However, their relationship is not without challenges, but those challenges seem to be the catalyst that brings them closer together.
I enjoyed this story a lot but my favorite part is that both of these characters are slightly older, independent and established in their careers and are getting a second chance at love.
There is a new coach for the Sidewinders and you will love Jared! Elizabeth @ Carolina Chic’s Read
When called up to be a temporary coach, Jared watches the Amazing Sidewinders win another championship! But his life is about to change when he meets the stunning Renee. He doesn’t know what makes her so special, so different form any other woman, but he is willing to find out.
Renee has everything that she has ever wanted in her life. An amazing career and a wonderful daughter and the freedom to travel and enjoy life. When she meets the Sexy a sin coach for the Sidewinders she must figure out if the happiness she has build is the life she really wants. Is Jared what she has been missing and she didn’t know it yet.
**We get some Jamie Teller in this one too… I love that man! He made me tear up too… !
5 Amazingly Sexy Stars !
This was a very entertaining and emotional read. I felt that this book offered an excellent balance between romance and reality. Jared and Renee’s story has lots of drama, twists, heat, and emotional turmoil. I felt it was easy to feel the attraction and chemistry between these two and I was quickly pulled into their story.
I really enjoyed this story and all of the characters. Jared and Renee were an unlikely pair that was drawn to each other like magnets. So many obstacles in their way at every turn seeming to break them apart. In the end, they are stronger than ever. Excellent book!
I’ve been sitting here for a little bit trying to figure out how I wanted to write this review. While I enjoyed this book I also didn’t love it. I enjoyed getting to read a book where the hero and heroine were a bit older. Getting to know both Jared and Renee was a treat. They both were established and enjoying life. What I think bothered me the most was that there just seemed to be so much going on. It helped with the family dynamic and getting to know everyone involved. But between Renee/Jared, Daisy/Zio, and Braden there was A LOT going on. The book was also a bit slow. But I did love that you felt like you were actually mixed up in their everyday life. It’s also fun to see characters from some of the past books. Makes me want to go back and read what I haven’t. *I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.*
Ten years after his world came crashing down around him, Jared Wylde gets the call to help coach the Las Vegas Sidewinders during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. After winning the Stanley Cup, Jared is on the short list to become the new head coach of the Sidewinders. At a party for the team, Jared meets Renee DeSantos. Sparks fly between Jared and Renee, and they spend the night exploring the amazing passion and chemistry that exists between them. Renee is a best selling author who was widowed young with a daughter. Renee is finally putting herself. Renee wants to keep things casual with Jared but finds she can’t keep her hands off him when they are together. Jared knows Renee is different from all the women he has been with and wants to see where their relationship can take them. Can two very busy professionals make a relationship work? What happens when Jared learns he has a son he never knew about with his deceased ex-wife? How will Renee react to the possibility of becoming a mother again to Jared’s son? Will Renee push Jared away because she is afraid to let go of her past? Will Daisy’s, Renee’s daughter, unexpected news cause more problems for Jared and Renee? Can Jared and Renee admit their feelings for each other, or will they walk away from their future together? I absolutely LOVED Jared by Kat Mizera! Jared is a fantastic story with great characters that will have the reader laughing out loud, swooning, and crying out in frustration. Love to see characters from other books stepping in to help and offer advice to Jared and Renee. Kat Mizera is a MUST read author for this reader. I would highly recommend getting Jared and all the other books in the Las Vegas Sidewinders series. I received an ARC of this book, and I am leaving my honest review.
