With each passing second, her strength faded as her world turned darker, unable to move, to fight anymore. Her lifeless body fell into a heap at his feet, and he stood there for a brief moment, panting, not taking his eyes off her. “Excellent Story! First time I’ve read this author and Las Vegas Girl was excellent. Good story and well written with good supporting characters. Thought I had … supporting characters. Thought I had figured out who the culprit was, but I was totally wrong. Will definitely read more by this author.” – Mike, five-star Amazon review.
The crime: audacious
In a fashionable Las Vegas hotel, with hundreds of witnesses and countless video surveillance cameras watching, a young girl is brutally murdered in an audacious crime that shocks the entire city.
It looks like a relatively simple investigation for Detectives Laura Baxter and Jack Holt, but it soon proves to be anything of the sort, as the one vital piece of the jigsaw is missing; the killer.
The forensics: stupefying
Even with a crime-scene fingerprint that reveals more questions than answers, the persistent duo are undeterred and begin to make inroads into the life of the deceased. But what they discover is a complex web of lies and intrigue about her life that all seem to lead to an ambitious politician and a terrible secret.
The truth: shocking
And now that secret threatens Baxter and Holt’s lives too, as a message from beyond the grave reveals the shocking truth.
Will a connection with the victim’s distant past hold the key to catching her killer? And can they uncover them before they become victims themselves?
Two mavericks form an intriguing team. Baxter and Holt trust each other with their lives, just not with their darkest secrets.

A most enjoyable read. The first book in the series that looks to be a lot of fun. Great detail and wonderful situations with the paring of Detectives Laura Baxter and Holt as partners.
I love a good whodunnit, better yet if the detectives in charge have something to lose, a real stake in the game. Even better if the case is set in Vegas. I love the glittery heat, the dazzling neon, the cacophony of spinning wheels, and the cheers of gamblers. It adds a bit of shiny kitsch that attracts me like no other. This is one tight story, people. It’s not your ordinary police procedural. It’s twisted and unpredictable, bordering on modern noir. And all the more memorable for it.
Very Interesting! Love the characters! Great mystery with lots of twists and action. Just when you think you have it figured out…!
I really enjoyed this story and hope it just the first in a new series staring are two damaged cops Baxter and Holt. What lenghts would you go to make sure the bad guy’s go to jail and stay there, this is the question facing two Las Vegas cops, when every turn they make is blocked by poltical pressure, lack of evdence or road blocks thrown in their way by a killer that just doesn’t want to be caught.
I don’t think this book had as many twist and turns as some of the author’s other books but was still a very enjoyable tale. and I will be looking out for the next book featuring the heros of this book, as it will be interesting to see how ther parternship develops.
Laura Baxter is new to the precinct and is teamed up with Jack Holt. The two of them do not always play by the rules. Madeline Munroe was drugged and raped when a number of years ago. Her mother would not allow her to contact the police. Madeline was strangled and tossed 18 floors to the lobby of the Aquamarine. They uncover some unexpected people involved in the assault and murder. Very suspenseful and gripping mystery.
Great book. Well-written. Loved the steps to solving the mystery and the two main characters-their interaction and the growth of their relationship. The police procedures info added to my enjoyment, as did the female detective’s expertise and activities “off-duty”. Leslie is a good author and I am now a fan. I will buy the next book.
Flawed characters that you can’t help but like.
I enjoyed this book and plan of buying the series. I want to see how the characters evolve.
Great interactions between the complex lead characters and interesting mystery.
I really liked the premise of this book. It was adventurous with unexpected plot twists/ending. But I hated the occasional cuss words – there weren’t too many, but I prefer none, & I especially despise the F word.
Hard to put down
I love this authors books. Excellent at keeping you wondering. Can’t put this authors books down once you start them. Highly recommended
Couldn’t put it down.

Enjoyed it !
A wonderful book with many twists and turns… In a Las Vegas hotel, a young woman has reservations about entering an elevator already occupied by a hooded man whose face is covered by big sunglasses and part of the hood. She decides to board the elevator anyway and go to her room on the eighteenth floor. Her fears are partially alleviated when a couple gets on the elevator with her but they get off at the 11th floor. Still fearful, she tries to get off with them but the hooded man pulls her back into the elevator, telling her the eleventh floor is not her floor. Once they get to the eighteenth floor, he gets off with her, strangles her and throws her off the balcony to the casino floor below. Las Vegas Detectives Laura Baxter and Jack Holt, are assigned to the solve the case quickly. This will be their first case working together. Their immediate supervisor, DC Wallace, gives them strict rules about what they can and cannot do. Laura Baxter is new to the Las Vegas Police Department, a tainted transfer from near-by Henderson, Nevada where she had badly beaten the last person she had arrested. Jack Holt, a seasoned Las Vegas police detective, is not liked by many of the people he works with because he is a rogue officer, believing that if you can get an arrest, even if it is not your case, you do so anyway. Their boss reminds them both that they are on the edge of being released from their jobs if they do not follow the exact protocol he sets for them. The book keeps the reader guessing what their next moves will be under the conditions they are supposed to be following. Their solving the case and uncovering the conspiracy surrounding it makes the reader want to read more of the cases these two detectives will ultimately solve…
All her books have been awesome. Best suspense in a long time.
This was a wonderful read. Couldn’t put it down. I am thankful to Book Bub for introducing new authors to me. This book held my attention as well as JD Robb or James Patterson. THANK YOU
