With each passing second, her strength faded as her world turned darker, unable to move, to fight anymore. Her lifeless body fell into a heap at his feet, and he stood there for a brief moment, panting, not taking his eyes off her. “Excellent Story! First time I’ve read this author and Las Vegas Girl was excellent. Good story and well written with good supporting characters. Thought I had … supporting characters. Thought I had figured out who the culprit was, but I was totally wrong. Will definitely read more by this author.” – Mike, five-star Amazon review.
The crime: audacious
In a fashionable Las Vegas hotel, with hundreds of witnesses and countless video surveillance cameras watching, a young girl is brutally murdered in an audacious crime that shocks the entire city.
It looks like a relatively simple investigation for Detectives Laura Baxter and Jack Holt, but it soon proves to be anything of the sort, as the one vital piece of the jigsaw is missing; the killer.
The forensics: stupefying
Even with a crime-scene fingerprint that reveals more questions than answers, the persistent duo are undeterred and begin to make inroads into the life of the deceased. But what they discover is a complex web of lies and intrigue about her life that all seem to lead to an ambitious politician and a terrible secret.
The truth: shocking
And now that secret threatens Baxter and Holt’s lives too, as a message from beyond the grave reveals the shocking truth.
Will a connection with the victim’s distant past hold the key to catching her killer? And can they uncover them before they become victims themselves?
Two mavericks form an intriguing team. Baxter and Holt trust each other with their lives, just not with their darkest secrets.

Good read, read this story in one day.
Quick, entertaining read.
I LOVED this book. Great characters, intriguing story, can’t wait for the next in the series to come out. Anxious to read more from this author!
Couldn’t put it down. Hoping for book 2
I stumbled across this book while browsing the KU selection on Amazon. I was looking for a new-to-me author. What better way than to find on in KU. I know so many readers who have found new authors that way, so I gave it a try.
This one intrigued me. I have been known to enjoy a crime thriller from time to time. I quickly downloaded this book, hoping to find a twisty, maybe suspenseful mystery.
The storyline. That was the strong positive in this book. The storyline in this book is a very good storyline. It’s what drew me in to reading it. It’s not necessarily unique, but it’s the type of storyline if written right and well, it could be unique in its own way. It was just your typical detective crime story.
The writing and delivery. I just wasn’t there. The writing only told me a story. In no way did it show me a story. There needs to be a balance in any story between telling and showing. A book, especially one that should be suspenseful, should show me enough of the story that I can’t put it down. This wasn’t the case here.
The characters. I felt nothing towards these characters. There wasn’t anything for me to connect to. They were cookie cutter detective characters. They didn’t stand out in any way. Their chemistry was nonexistent. Again, too much telling and not enough showing.
The mystery and suspense. If I am being honest. There wasn’t any. I figured out the whodunit pretty early. The why came very clear soon after. At that point, I was just chasing the ending to finish the book. There weren’t any real suspenseful parts. Everything felt very mechanical.
I am trying to figure out who I would recommend this book to. I guess if you are into straight-forward detective novels, you might enjoy this book… and maybe the series. As of right now, I don’t plan to continue reading the other books, but that isn’t saying that I won’t at some point in the future.
I only read a few pages and deleted it because of bad language.
One of those books you keep reading because it is good enough to keep you interested about how it will end. Aside from that it is just not a page turner that we all relish when we find them.
Too many characters and had a very hard time following the story…..eventually gave up and moved onto another more enjoyable book….
A heroine to root for!
I am always looking for new authors and received this book for free.
I did like the premise of the main character leading a double life. Her partner comes off well but flawed. They are both on probation so a lot of what they do is unrealistic as they are behaving in a fashion that could get them fired. What ruined it for me was a scene in a night club where a killer who was released due to lack of evidence. This occured because his buddy went into police headquarters and stole the murder weapon from the evidence locker. The henchman was caught on video. In spite of that, they, as known criminals, bring the murder weapon, still in the evidence pouch, into the club where they are partying. Really? The story line was far-fetched.
This has an unusual twist. The characters do not respond to situations as expected. As a result, the characters are more interesting. I’d enjoy getting to know them better.
It moved a bit slow but I still liked it.
Another 5 star by Leslie Wolfe!
Enjoyed the story lines keep my interest…did have just the right kind of romance to fit into the story….I hate where if story isn’t strong it’s made up for in sexual explicit …so way this was good read.
Leslie Wolfe is one of my favorite authors. I enjoyed reading this story. It was very interesting & fast moving with several twists and turns. The two main characters are detectives. They work great together, but each has their own demons to work out and sometimes it gets in the way of their partnership. Neither one is great at “sharing” things from their private lives. This is one of those books that I hope becomes a series. I received this book as an ARC and voluntarily reviewed it. This is my honest opinion of this book and I would definitely recommend this book to others
I enjoyed this book. The past sins come back to haunt 3 rich, important men.
I would have given it 5 stars but I didnt like the way Detective Baxter took the situation into her own hands, outside of the law.
I enjoyed reading this story as I’ve enjoyed other Leslie Wolfe books. It was fast moving, with twists that keeps your interest. Both detectives have their own problems but their main focus is catching the bad guy. There’s intrigue, and hidden agendas at the highest levels that they have to work around.
